Chapter 7: Revealing One's Heart
The new day begins with the symphony of pots and pans in the tube building.
After being awakened by the sound, Qiao Qinglu rubbed her eyes and looked at the time. It was 6:47 in the morning.
She changed her clothes, made her bed, and left the room.
Dad Qiao is already reading the newspaper.
The breakfast was very rich. Usually it was porridge with pickles and a few mixed-wheat buns. Today, the enamel pot and the big bowl on the table were filled with soy milk, a bowl of old tofu, and 4 fried dough sticks.
Seeing his daughter coming out, Dad Qiao hurriedly said, "Xiaolu, go wash up first. Your mother is making medicine for you in the corridor."
Qiao Qinglu nodded, took the spittoon to the public toilet, rinsed it, put it back under the bed, put the towel in the enamel basin, held the basin in one hand and the thermos in the other to wash.
The tube-shaped buildings of that era were small in size. Not only did they not have kitchens or washrooms, they also had no public toilets. People had to go to the bathhouse to take a shower.
It is inconvenient to get up at night, and most families have several spittoons. Qiao Qinglu can only follow the local customs.
It is really cold in early spring in the north. The wind blew again last night, giving Qiao Qinglu a chill when she went out to wash. She washed quickly and went back to the house.
After a while, Qiao's mother came in with medicine, and the three of them started to eat breakfast.
After dinner, Qiao's father and mother rushed to work, and reminded her to take the medicine in half an hour and wait for them to bring back food from the cafeteria at noon.
Qiao Qinglu told her parents that it was not necessary and she could take care of herself. However, Qiao's parents insisted that she rest, and she had to give up since she couldn't persuade them.
Qiao Qinglu was the only one left in the room. After entering the space to drink milk, punching in to feed, water, and collect eggs, she left the space, waited for a while, drank her medicine, and lay down on the bed.
It's so boring. It was still a planned economy back then. City workers were given money tickets every month and used them to buy rationed food. In a few days, when her health gets better, she will definitely go to the black market and stock up on funds before the reform and opening up.
Speaking of the black market, the original body had been there several times in order to exchange national food coupons for Yuanyuan. There were all kinds of items and tickets there. Grain, pork, eggs, and brown sugar were hard currencies and the easiest to trade.
Thinking of this, Qiao Qinglu got up and went to the living room. She took out a bunch of cloth bags, a 2-jin oil bottle, and 6 glass canning bottles from the wooden box where she kept her flour bags. She also found a bunch of old newspapers, scissors, hemp ropes, and glue nearby. She took these and entered the space.
There were a total of 9 flour bags. Qiao Qinglu filled 6 bags of flour, 30 jin each; 3 bags of rice, 20 jin each; filled the oil bottle with soy sauce, and packed chocolate, big rabbit, fruit hard candy, sorghum candy and other candies into cans; then she used scissors to cut old newspapers into strips to wrap the noodles, glued them with glue, tied them with hemp rope, and tied 30 bundles of noodles, each weighing one jin.
Qiao Qinglu tried to kill the pig with her mind, but it didn't work. It seemed that she could only find a chance to sell the pig alive, so she left the space.
There are not enough old newspapers, and there is no big basket to hold things. It seems that I have to go to the recycling station to see if I can pick up something by the way. I can also look for the "Self-study Series of Mathematics and Physics". It is said that the book covers most of the knowledge points of mathematics, physics, and physics in junior high and high school, and is very suitable for self-study of young people.
It was already 1974, and there were still three years before the resumption of the college entrance examination in 1977. Although Qiao Qinglu was at least a college graduate in modern times, she had read a report: the number of applicants for the college entrance examination in 1977 was 5.7 million, and the number of admitted applicants was 270,000, with an admission rate of only 4.74%. The competition was very fierce.
Although the world in the book is not completely consistent with reality, in the past three years she has had to raise and take care of the child, and be busy with work and housework, so she must plan well to ensure that she can be admitted to her ideal university.
Qiao Qinglu's books for junior high and high school were all locked in a bookcase. Now that she had nothing to do, she simply took out the books, sorted them out and put them on the bookshelf. She planned to read them through first to familiarize herself with the lessons, and then make a schedule based on her learning progress in each subject and review her lessons.
She was so immersed in the ocean of knowledge that she didn't realize it was already noon until her mother opened the door.
Mr. and Mrs. Qiao came back with lunch boxes. Everyone had lunch and Mrs. Qiao went to boil medicine again.
Qiao Qinglu patted her head, confused. How could she have forgotten to boil the medicine this time?
After a while, the medicine was ready. Qiao's father and mother told her to remember to take the medicine in half an hour and then went to rest.
Seeing how hard they worked, Qiao Qinglu suggested that she cook the food herself in the evening so they wouldn't have to do it. However, Qiao's father and mother refused to let her do it and pushed her into the room to rest.
Alas, Qiao Qinglu couldn't help but sigh. It's not that she didn't work hard, it's that her parents were too supportive.
After taking the medicine, Qiao Qinglu set an alarm for herself for an hour, took a rest for a while and then continued studying.
The whole afternoon was spent reviewing.
It was time for dinner, and Qiao Qinglu had just finished boiling the medicine when her mother-in-law and Xiao Qinyun came back.
