The three dolls imagined the future and thought this seemed not bad. They accepted their father's suggestion, exchanged gifts with their friends, and made a pinky promise to play together in the future.
Xiao Qinyun also made arrangements for the courtyard here. He agreed with Aunt Qiu to rent the two rooms on the back house near the gate to her husband and two grandsons, leaving the kitchen and a bathroom for use, and locking the other rooms.
Because they were asked to look after the yard, the rent was very cheap. After thanking them profusely, Aunt Qiu asked her husband to help Xiao Qinyun and the others take care of the house.
After two or three days of packing, Xiao Qinyun borrowed several tricycles to prepare for the move. After six or seven trips to the village, he finally finished moving.
After moving, Mantou, Doubao, Tangyuan and Aunt Qiu lived in the back room. The three kids were very satisfied with their rooms and furniture. It was a novel experience for them to finally have their own independent space.
Qiao Qinglu took the opportunity to guide them in organizing and storing their own clothes and toys, and told them that each of them would have their own room and they should adapt well.
The three kids patted their chests loudly. They were grown-up kids now, and it was no big deal for them to live in a room by themselves.
What's more, the kids adapted well and started their independent lives.
Qiao Qinglu took the children to visit a flower factory near Wangfujing and ordered an osmanthus tree, a magnolia tree, and a pomegranate tree to plant in the courtyard. She used the remaining land to plant grapes and build a grape trellis.
There was an open space on the west side of the back room. Qiao Qinglu didn't plan to plant trees, so she left it to Aunt Qiu and planted some ginger, onions and garlic.
With the addition of some plants, the old yard has regained its vitality.
Xiao Qinyun and Qiao Qinglu discussed letting the three children go to elementary school. After seeking their consent, their happy life during the summer vacation began.
Qiao Qinglu borrowed first-grade textbooks and spent an hour every morning teaching Chinese and math to the three children. The children were very interested, focused, and learned very efficiently.
In this way, the children practiced martial arts, studied, and played games in the morning, and went to Wangfujing to play with their friends in the afternoon. Their days were very fulfilling.
Apart from taking the children to class and playing games with them in the morning, Qiao Qinglu spent the afternoon learning professional knowledge. She set a small goal for herself and borrowed several English classics from the school library and tried to start translation work.
This summer, she translated while looking up dictionaries, and wrote more than two manuscripts, translating about 3/5 of "Gone with the Wind". Looking at these manuscripts, her heart was filled with a sense of accomplishment.
Xiao Qinyun was invited by the director of the machinery factory as early as mid-July. The factory encountered a bottleneck in technological upgrading, and the director asked Master Jiang to come to him for help. He only needed to do the work and get money and tickets.
Xiao Qinyun went to the factory. He refused the money and proposed to let the three children attend the factory-run primary school. The factory director agreed readily. As long as the problem could be solved, it would not be a big deal.
In less than a month, Xiao Qinyun found the problem. Under his leadership, the research team solved the problem in three days. The factory director happily sent him back to his home and gave him a big red envelope, which he was not allowed to refuse.
At the end of August, Xiao Qinyun and his wife took steamed buns, bean buns and glutinous rice balls to buy a green canvas schoolbag, a cartoon-patterned tin pencil case, pencils, erasers and handkerchiefs.
After carrying their schoolbags and going home, the little kids were so excited. They looked at each other's pencil cases, and each thought the one they chose was the most beautiful. They kept asking mom and dad, "Can we go to school if we are innocent?"
Qiao Qinglu squatted down and hugged the three children. "Don't worry, school will start tomorrow. Get up early tomorrow. Mom and Dad will take you to register and get your books."
After hearing the satisfactory answer, Doubao somersaulted excitedly, and Mantou and Tangyuan were also very happy.
Early in the morning of September 1st, the three children got up and yelled for their parents to take them to school. The couple was woken up, shook their heads, and got out of bed.
After running a few laps in the yard with the kids and making breakfast for everyone to eat together, Qiao Qinglu sorted out the clothes for Mantou, Doubao and Tangyuan, and asked the children to put on their backpacks and go to school together.
When I arrived at the school gate, I found the names of the three children on the red paper on the bulletin board. All three of them were assigned to Class 1 of the first grade.
Then everyone came to the first grade class and met the head teacher, Ms. Yao, a capable middle-aged woman with short hair.
After each student paid 3.6 yuan for tuition and 1.64 yuan for books, Teacher Yao distributed books, asked them to choose a seat, write their names with chalk, and then go home.
Teacher Yao reminded them that when the class officially started the next day, each person should bring a small bucket and a rag to clean the house.
Qiao Qinglu suddenly remembered that school had just started and they had to do a thorough cleaning and wipe the windows. She had to buy a few small buckets.
After buying the buckets and sending the children to Nanluoguxiang, Xiao Qinyun and his wife told the children to attend classes well and listen to the two teachers and Aunt Qiu at home. Then they reluctantly said goodbye to them and rushed to register at their respective schools.
After receiving the books, they arrived at the courtyard in Zhongguancun. Qiao Qinglu moved the bed and large cabinet from the space to the bedroom on the east side of the main house, took out the bedding and clothes, and asked Xiao Qinyun to buy coal and a pot, and get some soil to make coal balls. In the future, they would be able to light a fire to boil water and cook here.
After some tidying up, the place finally looked presentable, and the two of them snuggled up to each other warmly.
