Chapter 25 Characteristics of the Times
"Shuyan, what are you looking at?"
"nothing."
Song Shuyan withdrew her gaze. It was the first time she saw someone using a can as a lunch box, and there was more than one person doing this. She couldn't help but take a few more glances.
Through the glass bottle, you can see the rice at the bottom and the green vegetables on top. It is very inconvenient to use chopsticks to pick up the rice.
The only advantage is probably that it has a lid, which you can tighten to prevent food from spilling.
The two men walked slowly across the street, asked someone for directions, and finally arrived at the fertilizer distribution point.
Song Shuyan covered his nose and parked the car at the door, then slowed down his breathing and walked into the store.
There was a poisonous smell lingering at the tip of his nose, but the old man who was watching over the shop was probably used to it and was not affected by it.
He lifted his eyelids and glanced at the two of them, then casually asked, "What would you like to order?"
In fact, I didn’t think that the two of them were here to buy things. How could two little girls carry fertilizer?
"Is there any herbicide?" Song Shuyan asked, releasing his hand that was covering his nose, and then covering his nose again.
"No!" the old man answered firmly.
Song Shuyan glanced at the corner of the shelf, where a pile of black plastic bottles were placed in a disorderly manner. He walked over and took a closer look. The evenly distributed dust covered the words on the bottles.
"What is this?" It's obviously pesticide.
The old man impatiently lifted his eyelids and took a quick look, then said unhappily, "How would I know what it is?"
Song Shuyan: "..." This is the characteristic of the times.
She swallowed her anger and glanced around the room, wanting to find a rag to wipe the pesticide bottle to see what kind of pesticide it was.
Qin Fei was peeking outside, waiting impatiently, "Shuyan, how is it?"
Song Shuyan shouted outside, "Wait a moment, I'll check if there's any herbicide in this pile of pesticides."
She picked up one of the bottles, carefully read the words on it, and wiped off the dust with her index finger.
The words covered by dust showed some of their arms and legs.
Song Shuyan could barely make out that it looked like a cursive character.
She continued to wipe the dust.
The next moment, she was pleasantly surprised. This was it!
She took the black bottle to the old man and asked, "How much is this per bottle?"
The old man glanced at it calmly and said, "One dollar and two cents."
Song Shuyan picked and chose and ordered five bottles. The old man was calm and said, "Six dollars."
But in my heart I was thinking, this little girl must be a fool. These things have been left there for two years and no one wants them, so they are just gathering dust, and she wants five bottles at once.
Song Shuyan paid the money readily. The old man was kind enough to find a bag for her and said, "Pack it yourself."
"Is there any water? I want to wash my hands."
Song Shuyan hung the pesticide bottle on the handlebars and went into the store again to ask the old man.
The old man pointed to a small door in the back corner and said, "There's a water tank inside."
The corner was pitch black. After a quick inner struggle, Song Shuyan finally walked in.
Fortunately, there is no danger inside.
She came out with her hands dripping with water and thanked the old man.
Qin Fei was looking at the car outside.
Seeing that she finally came out, he smiled happily, "Shuyan, let's go eat?"
"good!"
The two of them asked for directions along the way and after many twists and turns, they arrived at the state-owned hotel.
It was past dinner time and there were not many people in the restaurant. The waiter was probably in a hurry to get off work, so he had a very bad attitude and asked them impatiently what they wanted to eat.
"Hurry up! What are you doing?"
Song Shuyan was angry but didn't dare let her find out, for fear that she would spit in the food.
I held my anger and calmly ordered a smacked cucumber and shredded pork with fish flavor.
"Add a tomato and egg soup!" Qin Fei added.
The waiter rolled his eyes, tore off a piece of paper from his notebook, and said, "Wait!"
The two of them sat at a table near the door so that they could watch the car. The large pomegranates from the basket were brought in, and the pesticides hanging on the handlebars were also placed under the table.
Song Shuyan drank a sip of tea out of boredom and accidentally kicked the pesticide bottle. He suddenly remembered, does this thing have a shelf life?
Will it expire?
If she buys something and finds it’s expired or not effective, she will cry.
It’s really tiring to make this trip.
Maybe the dishes they ordered were simple, so they were served very quickly.
A couple at the next table saw the two dishes and a soup on their table. The woman squeaked behind their back, "Young people nowadays just don't know how to live. Why would they come to a state-owned restaurant and order a few dishes they can cook at home?"
Look at that plate of smashed cucumbers. Cucumbers are not expensive and you can buy a bunch of them in five minutes at the vegetable market.
In a state-owned restaurant, this dish would cost one cent.
"Okay, why do you care so much about other people's business?" the man at the next table said impatiently.
Song Shuyan and Qin Fei were oblivious to what was happening outside. They were very tired and hungry, so they ate quickly.
After dinner, Qin Fei asked, "Since we're here, do you want to go to the supply and marketing cooperative?"
Song Shuyan shook his head, "Forget it, I'm tired and can't walk anymore."
Besides, she didn't want to buy anything.
Qin Fei said regretfully, "Okay then, shall we go back now?"
"Yeah." Song Shuyan was afraid that if he didn't go back early, it would be dark before he reached the village.
Qin Fei handed half of the meal money and food coupons to Song Shuyan, and Song Shuyan didn't say anything polite to her.
A relationship where neither party takes advantage of the other can last longer.
The two of them rode their bicycles back the same way they came.
Qin Fei always felt that today's trip was not worth it. He took a leave and went through so much trouble to ride such a long distance just to buy a few bottles of pesticide. What was the point?
What does Song Shuyan intend to achieve?
Perhaps they noticed that there was more than one pregnant woman in the road construction team, so everyone bent over and wielded their hoes with all their might, sparing no effort at all.
The sweat fell to the ground and broke into eight pieces, and no one had time to wipe it off.
It's too bitter.
Pregnant women work harder than others, for fear of being accused of not working hard and taking advantage of others.
She couldn't bear to watch it.
However, my ability is limited and I can't work as well as a pregnant woman. If I continue to work, I will be taking advantage of the pregnant woman.
Song Shuyan wondered, after using a few bottles of herbicide, could the team leader record everyone's work points as usual and use the saved time to give the women a few days off?
"No! This won't work!"
When Song Shuyan mentioned this matter, the captain refused without thinking.
"Why?" Song Shuyan put his hands on his hips in anger.
"Your opportunistic behavior is not acceptable!"
Song Shuyan was furious. "The boss said, it doesn't matter if the cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice, it's a good cat! Why do you care how I finish my work? I'm trying to finish everyone's work ahead of time. Why can't you give everyone a few days off?"
Because he couldn't count! How many days of work did he save?
"Anyway, the road is built, and there's other work waiting. And doesn't someone's poem say that idle months are rare in a farmer's home?"
Song Shuyan was not willing to do that at all. He had gone through so much trouble and rode his bike for a whole day to buy the pesticides, and spent six dollars, but got nothing in return.
She slumped down on a chair in the team leader's office and sulked, "How about this? You give every pregnant woman in the village ten days off, and count it as full work points. Is that okay?"
She reasoned with the team leader, "I spent six yuan on the pesticide. Isn't this too much to ask?"
