Chapter 61: Suppressing Heartbeat

The next day after breakfast they set off on their bicycles.

Lu Chen's left leg was a little weak, so he rode very slowly.

Cheng Mingyue followed the method her father had taught her and jumped onto the back seat of the bicycle with a "whoosh". The bicycle was suddenly hit by the force and immediately twisted like a snake.

Fortunately, Lu Chen took great pains to stabilize the front of the car. Cheng Mingyue, who was sitting in the back seat, blushed instantly.

She had been desperately trying to lose weight for the past month, but unfortunately, her original owner had been such a heavy eater, her body size was frighteningly large. Even though she had diligently controlled her diet and exercised diligently, and had finally lost dozens of pounds, she was still a chubby girl.

Without a scale, Cheng Mingyue had no idea how much she weighed. Every time she looked in the mirror and saw her three chins, she felt that knowing her weight was meaningless.

Since we can’t change the current situation anyway, we should just keep working hard according to the original plan.

Cheng Mingyue was daydreaming when Lu Chen suddenly braked hard. Her head hit Lu Chen's back and her hands subconsciously hugged his waist.

"Sorry, there's a puddle ahead. It's a bit slippery. Please hold on tight."

Lu Chen's voice was a little hoarse when he spoke. He felt his back and waist become hot because of Cheng Mingyue's touch, and even his heart became warm.

Lu Chen even had the urge to ride his bike with Cheng Mingyue and keep going.

However, this thought only flashed through his mind for a moment, and he remembered the expectations of his grandfather and uncle for him. He not only carried the hopes of the Lu family, but also the Shen family.

The light in Lu Chen's eyes dimmed, and he rode the bike much more steadily. Cheng Mingyue also let go of the hand holding Lu Chen and instead grabbed the iron frame under her butt.

Cheng Mingyue was well aware of the current situation between herself and Lu Chen. Since it was a marriage by agreement, she could only treat Lu Chen as the object of the agreement. She would nip any other inappropriate thoughts in the bud.

She has always had this attitude towards relationships. No matter how much Lu Chen meets her aesthetic standards, she will never give her heart easily.

She grew up in an orphanage and yearned for a warm home. As she grew older, she began to dream of a romantic, fairy-tale love.

But the reality is cruel. Until she was killed by a zombie's claw, she never met a man who made her heart beat.

Lu Chen...

Lu Chen and she just lived under the same roof, so they were strangers, partners at most, nothing more.

Absolutely not!

The two of them had their own thoughts, and after riding for an hour, they finally arrived in town.

"Are you okay?" Cheng Mingyue couldn't help but asked.

Lu Chen stretched his left leg, frowned, shook his head and said, "It's okay." He paused and asked again, "The post office is just up ahead. Can you go there by yourself?"

Cheng Mingyue: "...I can do it, if you have something to do, go ahead and do it."

Lu Chen nodded, got on his bike and left.

Cheng Mingyue looked at Lu Chen's back, smiled, and turned to enter the post office.

Cheng Mingyue first took out the remittance slip from her pocket and exchanged the money, and then sent out several manuscripts she had written in her space last night.

Since writing articles can make money, Cheng Mingyue feels that this is a good way to use the money she has in a legitimate way.

Cheng Mingyue then went to the supply and marketing cooperative again.

This time without her family, Cheng Mingyue had a great time shopping.

Soon her hands were full of things, and the salesperson couldn't help but look at her several more times.

Cheng Mingyue smiled shyly and said, "I'm preparing things for my wedding, so I bought a little more."

The salesperson then turned his head and stopped looking at her.

Cheng Mingyue rolled her eyes as she carried the things. Buying something these days was like stealing. She had to be so sneaky when spending her own money.

The thing was so heavy that a deep red mark was left on Cheng Mingyue's hand in a short while.

Cheng Mingyue thought for a moment and then walked towards a small alley. Seeing that there was no one around, she quickly threw all her things into the space and then walked through the alley on the other side.

After shopping, Cheng Mingyue thought about taking a stroll around town. She had been to town twice before, and each time she was in a hurry, so she had never really taken a good look around.

Cheng Mingyue looked here and there, and before she knew it, she had arrived at the scrap collection station. She tilted her head and peeked inside. It was full of broken glass and porcelain shards, nothing interesting to see.

Cheng Mingyue continued walking forward. When she came to a small alley, she saw a middle-aged woman holding a child in her arms, with her hands tightly covering the boy's mouth. The boy's whimpering sound could be heard faintly.

Seeing this, Cheng Mingyue quickly entered the space and secretly observed the woman's every move.

Unexpectedly, the woman came towards Cheng Mingyue holding the child and knocked on the outer gate of the courtyard.

Not long after, two sturdy men came out of the yard. They had full beards and fierce eyes.

"How is it? Is there any problem?" asked one of the strong men.

"Don't worry, I'm here. This is a big fat sheep today, and the quality is very good." The woman looked proud.

The three of them looked around for a while before walking into the yard and closing the door with a bang.

Cheng Mingyue was now certain that she had encountered human traffickers!

What she hated most in her life was human traffickers. Those children could have had a warm and happy home, but these beasts used them as tools to make money, and their lives were ruined!
