Chapter 86: Surviving the Next Year

Chapter 86: Surviving the Next Year

Li Sihui was blocked by Zhou Zixu. She saw him tightly hugging Zhao Jinchen, who was only wearing a vest. The scene looked very incongruous.

There were comic books in the space capsule, and the one with them was two grown men holding them.

"Now that you're back, I have one last bit of work to do. You won't be able to use the stove tonight, but you can use it tomorrow when the mud dries up."

When Zhao Jinchen heard her voice and met her cold gaze, he quickly separated from Zhou Zixu, introduced himself briefly, and looked at Zhou Zixu.

"Zi Xu, wait for me. I'll take you to my house after I finish this job. Let's have a drink today."

"Okay, I'll wait for you."

Zhou Zixu glared at Li Sihui, the ungrateful girl. Zhao Jinchen helped her family with work, but she didn't even say thank you and didn't even give him a good face.

Li Sihui was too lazy to pay attention to them. She walked into the house with her backpack and saw her brother sleeping on the wooden bed.

She didn't want to call him, probably because she didn't sleep well last night.

He put the backpack on the ground and looked at the earthen kang. The kang had already been built by Zhao Jinchen, who had good craftsmanship and the mud was spread very smoothly.

The mud was mixed with hay to make it durable. His eyes flashed and he attributed this favor to the village chief.

He must have asked Zhao Jinchen to come, otherwise he wouldn't have come to help him.

Outside the house, Zhao Jinchen chatted with Zhou Zixu while working. The two brothers talked about things in the army and missed the time they spent together.

"No, Jin Chen, why are you here to help her with the work? And she said she had hanged herself, is that true?"

As he was talking, he saw Li Sihui come into the room. Zhou Zixu hit Zhao Jinchen with his elbow and asked him in a low voice in his ear.

"Yes, I also heard about it when I returned to the village."

Zhao Jinchen's eyes flashed. He didn't believe it at first. How could such a fat body be saved after being hanged?

But now that he was fine, he couldn't help but believe it.

"Shit, I thought she made it up! You know what? She won't live past a year."

After Zhou Zixu was sure that Li Sihui was not lying to him, he felt more and more sympathetic towards him and moved closer to Zhao Jinchen and whispered in his ear.

I was mainly afraid that Li Sihui would be sad when she heard it, but I didn't expect that this scene was seen by Li Sihui who came out of the house.

From where she was standing, it looked like the two of them were kissing. Her stomach suddenly churned and she felt nauseous. She quickly turned around and went into the house, fearing that what she saw might cause eyestrain.

Zhao Jinchen and Zhou Zixu didn't know what Li Sihui was thinking at this moment, otherwise they would be so angry that they would burst into tears.

"How did you get to know her?"

Hearing Zhou Zixu's words, Zhao Jinchen was a little bit unconvinced, but when he thought of Li Sihui's slightly blue face, maybe she really had some hidden illness?

He looked at Zhou Zixu and asked him how he knew that. This kid sometimes liked to joke around, so maybe he was just joking with him.

"Today this girl is selling honey. You know my grandfather has lung problems, so he asked Doctor Tang to see him. He has a prescription passed down from his ancestors that specializes in treating lung disease, but he needs wild honey, so Uncle Wang brought this girl to him..."

Zhou Zixu began to tell Zhao Jinchen what had happened. He picked out the key points and finally talked about how Dr. Tang took Li Sihui's pulse and concluded that she would not live beyond the next year.

"Doctor Tang said that she is not fat for real, but edema due to snake venom. I gave her a prescription, but I don't know if it will work. What if it doesn't work... She is really pitiful. By the way, don't spread the news that she sold honey. She just exchanged it for some food. No money was spent. If your father knew about it, he would arrest her for speculation."

After Zhou Zixu finished speaking, he looked into the house. This home could be described as extremely poor. It was a low and squat house with dark walls. The only thing in the kitchen was a dish rack that was about to fall apart and this stove. He couldn't help but give Zhao Jinchen a few words of advice.

He felt even more sympathy for Li Sihui. How could such a family afford medicine? He wanted to help her.

Zhao Jinchen's eyes flashed with regret, and he whispered softly, "Is it so serious?"
