Chapter 168 The Past 2

When Brother Fu heard what Yao Jinnian said, he seemed to be lost in some memories.

After a long while, he sighed and said, "I've had a good life these past few years."

If one ignores the heaviness in Brother Fu's tone, Chu Yao believes that the old man will live a good life.

Yao Jinnian wouldn't believe it either.

But he didn't ask any more questions at this moment. He knew that both of them needed time to calm down and heal the pain in their hearts.

"Anian, I'll make your favorite buns in a minute. Don't worry, they'll taste great."

"Okay." Yao Jinnian agreed with tears in his eyes.

Brother Fu has not had an easy time these years.

Yao Jinnian vaguely remembered that Brother Fu used to follow him and his brother in fancy clothes and horses, but he knew nothing about things around the stove. Now Brother Fu was going to make the buns that they remembered.

Brother Fu tremblingly took out a basin, flour and water from the kitchen, and skillfully kneaded the dough. After kneading the dough, he put it in a hot place and waited for it to ferment.

While waiting for the dough to ferment, Brother Fu gave the remaining things in his house to Yao Jinnian, including land deeds and some precious antiques.

Yao Jinnian wanted to refuse, but when Brother Fu glared at him, he had no choice but to accept the things obediently. Only then did Brother Fu smile again.

"Anian, I didn't preserve some of the things very well, so these are all I have left."

"Brother Fu, these are all external to you. You must have suffered a lot in order to protect them."

Brother Fu waved his hand, obviously not wanting to say more, but Yao Jinnian knew how much the old man had suffered for these things during those dark years.

He raised his head to hold back the tears.

After the flour was fermented, Brother Fu started to make dumplings. Yao Jinnian also hurried forward to help and said, "Brother Fu, let me help you. I still remember that Aunt Ma's dumplings were the most delicious."

"Yes, whenever Aunt Ma makes buns, we eat the most."

Speaking of the buns made by Aunt Ma, they are a must-try. They often appeared on the dining table when I was a child. Everyone in the family loved them very much.

The two of them were doing their work while reminiscing about the past.

Seeing this, Chu Yao quietly went out to buy some side dishes, leaving the space for the two old people.

"Anian, I only learned how to make these dumplings from Aunt Ma after you left Jinshi and the master and the others lost contact. I was thinking that one day when you come back, you can taste the flavors in your memories again." At this point, Brother Fu was already sobbing.

Yao Jinnian knew that Brother Fu had learned how to make dumplings, but no one from the Yao family had ever returned.

"Today, An Nian, I can finally eat the buns I remember. It's worth waiting for so many years."

Brother Fu was very fast. While he was recounting his memories, his hands never stopped working. Buns took shape one by one in his hands, and then bloomed, waiting for the returnees to taste them.

"Little girl, come and try the buns I made." Brother Fu greeted Chu Yao warmly.

"Okay, thank you Uncle Fu."

The three of them sat at the small kang table, eating buns and chatting. Most of the conversation was done by Brother Fu and Uncle Nian, and Chu Yao acted as a qualified listener.

This meal of buns took me most of the afternoon.

"Anian, do you want to go out for a walk?"

"Go ahead, take a stroll."

After the three of them packed up, they went out. Of course, Chu Yao also brought a camera.

Walking through the familiar streets in my memory, watching the people coming and going on the road.

The streets are still the same as in my memory, but the familiar person is now the only one left.

Yao Jinnian's mind was full of thoughts and longings, and his steps gradually slowed down.

Brother Fu beside him slowly synchronized with Yao Jinnian and looked at him with worried eyes. He knew the pain in his heart.

Over the years, those who have passed away are fine, but those who remain are the saddest and are the last people to remember them.

Yao Jinnian slowly stopped moving, and Brother Fu and Chu Yao also stopped.

"Master, Master, run! The master has sent people to arrest us."

"What, why is Dad still holding on to this matter?"

"Youngest, don't talk. Run quickly. It will be terrible if you are caught by the people sent by Daddy."

Yao Jinnian looked at the street, and seemed to still hear his elder brother's voice telling him to run quickly, but when he looked closely, there was no one there at all.

Brother Fu looked at the street in front of him and remembered the time when they got into trouble and were caught by the people sent by the master. They were punished by being forced to kneel when they returned.

Memories come back, leaving only sadness.

"Brother Fu, let's go back." Yao Jinnian's voice sounded.

"Okay, let's go back."

Whether at home or on the street, the old people are gone and the new people are shedding tears.

At night, Chu Yao rested alone in a side room, while Yao Jinnian and Fu Ge lived in the same side room. They planned to talk by candlelight at night to make up for the past ten years.

"Brother Fu, did you wait for us and not get married or have children? Is that why you are so alone now?"

"Anian, actually I am married. You know your sister-in-law, she is Aunt Ma's daughter." Brother Fu smiled more when he thought of his wife.

"So it's Xiao Cui. I didn't expect that you, Brother Fu, are actually together with Xiao Cui. I thought you two had no intention of getting together. My brother and I were planning to bring you together. It seems that this is destined to happen."

"Yeah, it's fate."

"Later, the world became chaotic, and we didn't dare to go anywhere else. We took our money and went to the countryside. In the countryside, we supported each other and lived a decent life."

"After Xiao Cui became pregnant, we felt that our lives had more hope. But who could have imagined that when Xiao Cui was giving birth, a group of Japanese invaders came. We hid in time, but there was no doctor or midwife. The baby was held in her mother's belly for too long and died when she was born."

"When Xiao Cui saw her child was gone, she left me alone and passed away."

"After the founding of the People's Republic of China, I left that sad place and wanted to come back here to see if you had returned."

"Brother Fu, I'm sorry." Yao Jinnian murmured.

"Anian, what are you saying sorry for? The only thing that is sorry for us is this world. We suffered so much back then. We had no tomorrow.

Later, I thought it through and realized that it was fine to be alone. I would stay at the house and wait for you to come back. If I could wait for you, it would be a win for me. If not, I would reunite with you in the underworld.

I didn't expect that God would be so kind to me. Ah Nian, please come back often when you are free. This will help me explain to my master and the others when I am in the underworld."

"Brother Fu, don't worry. I won't leave this time. We two brothers will stay here. I'll accompany you and you'll accompany me."

"Okay, that's fine too. We two brothers will go to see the master and the others together then." Brother Fu's voice gradually became softer.

"Brother Fu, thank you for waiting for us to come back all these years."

Yao Jinnian did not wait for Fu Ge's answer. He knew that Fu Ge's wish had been fulfilled. After he left, he finally felt relieved and concentrated on accompanying his Xiao Cui and children.

Yao Jinnian suppressed her crying. Sitting beside the table on the kang was Brother Fu, who was no longer breathing.
