Chapter 7 The Past

At the dinner table, apart from Chu's father, the eldest brother gave a few more instructions, and then everyone else ate quietly.

Chu Yao did not stay long after the meal. After saying goodbye to her family, she hurried home.

By the time she got the babies home, Chu Yao was exhausted. Holding Erbao and Xiaobao for the past few days had really developed Chu Yao's arm strength.

"Babies, let's take a nap. Sleeping more will help you grow taller." Several babies nodded obediently and lay down.

Chu Yao took advantage of the babies' sleep to alter her own clothes for them.

Chu Yao secretly felt lucky that she had some skills in making clothes. She thought back to when she was studying in the 21st century, she had to do various part-time jobs to support herself. She learned the skills of making clothes at a handmade custom shop.

The boss was kind and generous. Chu Yao learned a lot of survival skills from him.

After graduation, Chu Yao worked in a related field. Now Chu Yao’s field is of little use.

At that time, there was no reform and opening up, and coupons were required everywhere.

Chu Yao laughed at herself while making clothes. She had finally saved enough money for the down payment and started her life as a house slave. But during a renovation, she was hit by a light bulb and when she opened her eyes, she found herself in 1974.

Oh, it’s better not to think about it.

Yang Hang will be back in a few days, so he needs to pack some things he can take with him.

After looking around, Chu Yao found that there was almost nothing to take away except a few pieces of clothes.

The situation at home was even worse than when it was visited by bandits. I don’t know how the original owner had survived these years and how he had supported himself and his children.

The room gradually grew darker, and Chu Yao realized that it was actually dark. There was no clock or watch in the house, which made Chu Yao not used to it at all.

Being able to estimate the time only by looking at the sky was a world-class disaster for Chu Yao.

"Dabao, Erbao, Xiaobao, you lazy pigs, get up. You can't sleep any more. You won't be able to sleep at night if you continue." Dabao rubbed his eyes and felt a soft touch on his face in a daze. It turned out that his mother started to kiss him again.

The second and youngest babies are still young, and they always smile after being kissed by their mother. The eldest baby feels that he is no longer a little kid, and he will blush after being kissed by his mother, but he can't bear to leave his gentle mother.

"Dabao, you and your brothers can play in our yard. It's so late, don't go out. Mommy will make dinner." Chu Yao said as she carried the babies off the kang and let them play by themselves.

Erbao and Xiaobao looked at their smiling mother, nodded obediently, and went to the yard hand in hand with Dabao to play hide-and-seek.

Chu Yao didn't cook much for dinner. There was really nothing else she could do, so she could only bear with herself and the babies for the time being.

I'll make all kinds of delicious food when conditions are better in the future.

The days passed by in such a plain and warm way. Chu Yao didn't do anything else during these days. She just made clothes for the babies and packed up the things that could be taken away from home. There was nothing else to pack.

Yang Hang was supposed to be back in the next couple of days. He would stay home for a week before taking Chu Yao and the others to his workplace. He also had to buy some food, otherwise it would be embarrassing if Yang Hang came back and there was nothing to eat at home.

This time, Chu Yao didn't foolishly walk by herself. There was an oxcart at the village entrance that cost one cent per trip, and two cents for a return trip. Some people were reluctant to spend money on the car and would rather walk the extra distance so they could save that cent to buy something else.

It has to be said that most people nowadays have not yet experienced the corrosion of material satisfaction and are still very simple.

In other words, simplicity was essential. After all, life in the countryside was not easy. After exchanging work points for food, a family could only get a dozen yuan. Even these dozen yuan were earned by the whole family's frugality, constant work and hard work in the fields, rain or shine.

So, while the original owner had worked in the fields to earn work points, it was a rather uneventful experience. After exchanging work points for food, she never received any year-end pay. Fortunately, Yang Hang's monthly salary kept her going; otherwise, given her personality, she would have died long ago.

"Hey, Yang Hang, you are going to the town to eat good food again." The person who spoke was a competitive aunt in the village. Her husband's family was a famous beggar in the Qiujia Brigade.

This aunt's surname is Niu. She is as capable as a cow, but she has a bad temper. Because she gave birth to two daughters, her in-laws mistreat her a little. Aunt Niu also feels ashamed because she did not give birth to a son for the Qiu family.

Therefore, Aunt Niu has two completely different attitudes towards her husband's family and the people in the brigade. She always agrees to her husband's family's requests, but finds fault with outsiders and is jealous of them in various ways.

As long as any family in the brigade lives a little better, Aunt Niu will always be indiscriminately sarcastic and like to take advantage of them.

Seeing Aunt Niu bullying Chu Yao, the others on the ox cart looked as if they were used to it. After all, Aunt Niu was always like that. They all had expressions of anticipation, their eyes almost overflowing with anticipation.

When Chu Yao compared the person in her memory with Aunt Niu's current face, she said, "Aunt Niu, which doctor did you go to for a folk remedy again?" Everyone in the team knew about Aunt Niu's worries. After so many years, and her youngest daughter was almost fifteen years old, Aunt Niu still had not given up her desire to seek folk remedies to have a child.

Chu Yao killed the enemy with one strike, and Aunt Niu was so embarrassed that she didn’t say a word anymore.

The other people on the ox cart showed surprise. They didn't expect that Chu Yao had become different after not seeing her for a few days.

Chu Yao used to be stupid and foolish. She would count money even after being sold. She couldn’t tell the good guys from the bad guys, and no one could say anything about it.

As for that educated youth Yu, who had given Chu Yao some kind of drug, he often secretly sent her money and food. There was no one as foolish as him in the entire brigade.

Chu Yao wouldn't let anyone take advantage of her now. After all, she had already changed her mind. Some people owed something and it was time to pay it back. Besides, it wasn't a free lunch, was it?

It seems that I have to go to the educated youth's office tomorrow to have a good talk with him and ask him to return the money and grain he owes. This way, Chu Yao's losses will be reduced a little. After all, those money and grain are a huge fortune.

You and your baby can eat some delicious food and some fine grains.

As for the future, I guess I will rarely come back except during the holidays and the New Year. We won’t have many opportunities to see each other, and other people’s gossip won’t make me lose a piece of meat, so let it be.

After shaking for half an hour, the ox cart finally stopped next to the town's post office.

Chu Yao finally got to experience the Niu Che brand convertible and the Loess brand toner of love. After finally suppressing the churning in her stomach, she walked towards the supply and marketing cooperative with trembling legs.
