Chapter 14

Bi Cheng ran out of the yard, squatted under the tap and washed his hands with lye, not forgetting to greet the guests:

"What do you want to eat? We have porridge, and now we have some fried cakes left."

Chu Yifeng half-closed his eyes and looked at Bi Cheng seriously. His voice was quite cold, and there was no smile between his brows:

“Youtiao.”

He sat at the small round table on a summer morning. Qiao Yan got up and followed his wife's instructions to search the car for a bib for the child.

"Youtiao, are they sold out? Sister? Can we still make youtiao now?"

Bi Yue poked the already suppressed flames with a stove hook and said, "Big brother, scoop them four bowls of porridge first." Then he stretched his neck and asked "Subwoofer":

"Is one jin enough? There's only a little over one jin left."

"Yeah." He spoke briefly, but his eyes first glanced at the small warehouse that was about to collapse, then at the oil pan, and then he looked up and looked at Bi Cheng who was holding chopsticks and a bowl.

Chu Yifeng raised his eyebrows. Siblings? The discomfort in his heart disappeared.

He crossed his legs, brushed off the dust on his trouser legs with his big hands, pretended to look at his trouser legs casually, and looked at Bi Yue's small round face.

Bi Yue muttered to herself: This guy is really rich, there is a car parked on the side of the road!

I am still a little surprised. This is not the era of Japanese cars with five-star red flags flying all over the streets in the future. People are afraid of being smashed, want to express patriotism, and want to save fuel.

It’s the 1980s, 1985!

Comparing people will make you die, comparing goods will make you throw them away!

This rude guy must have done something good in his previous life. Unlike her and Bi Cheng, they had to roll up their sleeves and work hard just to earn a few dollars when class was about to start.

You can't chase people away, right?

Bi Yue used her arm to rub the strands of hair that were scratching her face, and the white flour in her hand hung on her face.

Chu Yifeng raised his eyebrows. Is she a money-grubber?

He works as a hawker in the morning and a tutor at night. What about lunch? Don't tell him he's busy making money at lunch too.

What college student looks like her?!

Don’t you know that people will look down on you?

Even though some small vendors earn more than working-class families, isn't it shameful for a grown woman like her to throw away her dignity and honor for a few small profits?!

Chu Yifeng's mood turned from sunny to cloudy again, and a feeling of helplessness lingered in his heart.

Bi Yue didn't know! She didn't know that the man in front of her was Chu Ci's brother and knew her!

She didn't even know that she had become a "money-grubber" in Chu Yifeng's heart. If she knew, she would probably open her mouth and say, "What the hell is it to you?"

Qiao Yan's three-year-old daughter's nickname was Xiao Hua'er. Although she had just come to Kyoto from the countryside with her mother, the little girl was very polite. She swallowed her saliva and did not reach out to grab the fried dough sticks directly. Instead, she nodded to Bi Yue and said, "Thank you, big sister."

The little girl looks very well-behaved. She has bigger black pupils than other children, which makes her look very smart.

Bi Yue smiled happily: "No thanks, enjoy your meal." She felt that the little girl had good eyesight. She actually saw that she was a beautiful sister instead of treating her and her mother as peers. It showed how beautiful she was.

Chu Yifeng crossed his legs and looked at Bi Yue, and was distracted for a moment by Bi Yue's sincere smile.

That’s it, what about my sister?

Wearing a big white hat, two long braids, and ragged work pants, she really looks like someone from the urban-rural fringe area. She doesn't look like an eighteen-year-old girl, but more like a young lady from a very poor family!

Thinking of this, Chu Yifeng was stunned. He never paid attention to or cared about the clothes of older girls, so why did he become picky when it came to her?

Too tragic?

"Little Flower, uncle will tell you that she is your aunt."

Bi Yue turned around and paused.

"Xiao Chu, I'm really sorry to bother you. You picked us up from the train so early in the morning, and then did this..." Qiao Yan's wife blushed and said politely with a bit of embarrassment.

Chu Yifeng raised the corner of his mouth:

"Sister-in-law, you're being too polite. I have too much work to do, otherwise I would definitely prepare a pot soup base to make it lively. Please don't be polite."

Qiao Yan smiled innocently: "Yes, Yufen, Yifeng is one of us." Looking sideways, Qiao Yan's expression changed. He quickly picked up the bowl of porridge and fed Xiaohua:

"My daughter, come on, drink some porridge to calm down!" The couple put down their chopsticks and took care of the child.

Chu Yifeng felt a pang of bitterness in his heart when he looked at this little girl.

That little girl probably hasn't had a good meal in a long time...

Yes, Qiao Yan's family is in a difficult situation. With a large family, from grandfather to father, the couple has to support six elderly people who are not in good health. The financial pressure is extremely great.

It is conceivable that a three-year-old child must have not eaten meaty food for a long time. He was anxious, hungry and greedy, so he choked and got his food stuck.

Both Qiao Yan and his wife felt a little embarrassed. Perhaps the more "poor" a person is, the more they want to preserve their only self-esteem.

When Chu Yifeng heard his sister-in-law patting the child on the back and scolding, "You are the reincarnation of a starving ghost," he was about to wave his hand to stop her when a white plate filled with golden, plump little cakes was placed on the table.

"Big sister, we were all like this when we were little. She's just a little older, and I think she's already very well behaved." Bi Yue squatted beside the little girl:

"This little cake is a gift from Auntie. You can take it home and eat it slowly. It's sweet. Don't rush when eating, or you won't be able to taste the flavor."

"No, sister, this is so embarrassing."

Qiao Yan also echoed: "Sister, we will count this as money later."

It's just a small pancake. Bi Yue accidentally glanced at Qiao Yan's military pants and shook her head.

It was pretty much what she'd guessed before. The rich one was the "subwoofer," so this family was considered comrades? The subwoofer was a soldier...
