Chapter 40

(There’s only one day left until the v-list is released! Are you looking forward to it? Let’s look forward to it together.)

The old man driving the cart had no time to sigh. He just glanced at the two "prodigal children", collected the toll, turned his horse around in a hurry, and headed home.

Just a glance is enough!

Bi Yue understood that what the other person meant was: she and her elder brother were so heartless that they were eating roast chicken, look at how shabby this house was!

Although it was dark and early in the morning, Bi Yue still blushed.

She finally understood now, why, when she asked Bi Cheng if it was hard and if he was tired of working, during those days of frying dough sticks, Bi Cheng actually replied:

"It's tiring, but fulfilling. Going home is the real tiring, mentally exhausting thing."

Before Bi Yue could calm down, she just turned around and found that the big iron door with black words "Fu" on it was opened from the inside.

Her father and Bi Tiegang just stood at the gate.

Bi Tiegang first narrowed his wrinkled eyes slightly, then asked in surprise: "Why are you two back at this time?"

"Dad, it's already so late, why aren't you guys asleep yet?" Bi Cheng took a few big steps forward to greet him. "I was wondering why the lights were still on in the room at this hour!"

Bi Tiegang turned around and took two steps. "The kang is hard to heat. I just took advantage of the fact that I was home and it was removed before autumn came. There's a new train from Kyoto to here? How come you're home now?"

Bi Yue stood outside the door and noticed Bi Tiegang's leg at a glance. Although her father had only taken two steps, she could see that he was limping badly.

My heart feels sour.

The dream fragment that I had just traveled through seemed to come back to my mind.

For her and her eldest brother, for a few dozen yuan for travel expenses, to get them out of the mountains, so that their children would no longer have to work tirelessly in the fields, to change their fate...

He had a broken leg, and although he was only just past middle age, he would be crippled for the rest of his life...

When Bi Yue thought about this, the sense of distance she felt when meeting a stranger in her heart began to slowly narrow from that moment on, until it aroused all the closeness in her blood.

Bi Tiegang was still asking Bi Cheng about this when he turned around and saw that his eldest daughter hadn't caught up with him.

"Nier, what are you staring at in the middle of the night? Are you tired? Come on, follow daddy into the house!" He stood there waiting for his eldest daughter to come forward.

Time flies so fast. He hasn't seen his two children for half a year. He doesn't say anything and doesn't complain like their mother, but he really misses them in his heart.

Bi Tiegang thought to himself that since all the kangs had been removed, only the small kang in the small room was left for the old man to live in. The children would go home as soon as they were told to, so they would have to make temporary beds.

Thinking of this, he could not help but complain to Bi Yue who was slowly strolling into the yard:

"You kid, why didn't you and your brother send a letter in advance before going home? I shouldn't have done it earlier! Besides, Dad is going to the town to pick you up, look..." He habitually complained about Bi Yue, the eldest brother, even though he knew that Bi Yue usually ignored him.

The roast chicken was handed over, the bag was opened, and the aroma of roast chicken was still there: "Here you go."

Bi Yue presented it with both hands, and her big eyes met the stunned Bi Tiegang's.

Bi Chen sat bleary-eyed on the edge of the kang, having been woken by his elder brother tickling his feet. This shows how unique the brothers' bond is.

The twelve-year-old boy has skin color from the chest up to the chest, and is very white below the chest. It can be seen that he has been out and about a lot this summer!

Bi Chen sat up from his sleep and smiled at his elder sister. During their "first" meeting, Bi Yue only smiled most openly to Bi Chen.

Bi Yue placed the roast chicken, which had been glared at by her father, in front of her brother again as if it were a treasure.

Bi Chen opened the bag curiously, then rubbed his eyes with his fists.

"Sizzle!" He pinched his thigh hard. It hurt! It really hurt! Bi Chen exclaimed in pain.

Bi Yue tried to stop her brother from pinching her, but it was too late. She couldn't help but laugh, but under the dim light of the bulb, it was obvious that her smile wasn't very pretty. It was just a roast chicken, and her brother looked incredulous.

Alas! She was such a strong person, but how come from the moment she entered the courtyard, her heart felt like it was being stabbed with a needle?

"Grandpa, Grandpa! Roast chicken, come on, try it too." Bi Chen was no longer sleepy, and saliva was secreted in his mouth, but the twelve-year-old child waited for his grandfather to eat the first bite.

The skinny little boy, wearing only a pair of boxy shorts, stood excitedly on the kang, holding a roast chicken in his hands, waiting to feed it to his grandfather.

The old man wanted to turn his head to look at Bi Yue, wanted to wave his hand and shout to Bi Chen, "Eat it all, grandpa doesn't like to eat," and wanted to ask how much money he earned as a tutor.

But when the words came to his lips, they all melted into one sentence with all his strength: "Okay! Okay!" His cloudy eyes were filled with joy, the children had all returned home.

Grandpa Bi Fu was so excited because he almost couldn't breathe a while ago. He almost didn't see his eldest grandson and granddaughter, and his youngest son...

Bi Fu thought that his youngest son had not come home yet, so he had to wait. Otherwise, how would he talk to his wife about all these years when he got there?

Bi Cheng lay down in front of the old man and wiped the corners of his grandfather Bi Fu's eyes: "Grandpa, my sister and I are back. We made some money, well, we'll talk about it in detail later! I'll tell you everything, come, have some chicken, my sister bought it!"

"Good! Good!" Still these two words.

Bi Yue stood by the kang, hesitating to move forward.

Her behavior was similar to Bi Yue's in the past. She was quiet but understood things in her heart.

In this family, there are no strange looks. Everyone cares about her deeply. One can feel everywhere that the girl is not just a weed, but a flower and a treasure in the Bi family.
