Bi Yue was wearing a pair of green rain boots. Her cousin Fu Juan had just taken her to see the dairy cows she had raised.
When the two came back, they heard what Liu Yafang and Bi Jinzhi were saying outside the door.
“They say adopted daughters take after their aunts, and Yueyue and I have the same bad fate.
This child, sister-in-law, please don’t think my words are harsh. Why did you scold her and send her out?
She is young and impulsive. We were young once too. When we were wronged, we were coaxed into giving up everything. We were definitely hoping for a lucky break."
Liu Yafang wiped away her tears and said, "Yes, I regret it so much. If I had gotten married normally, there wouldn't have been any such problems. I still have to choose carefully."
"Alas, ever since I took Juanzi in, she has never done well on her exams, and has fought with classmates who are picky about her at school. I always stand up for her first, and then come back to ask her why.
Raising a daughter is not easy. I am so angry that my teeth itch. Am I irritable? I never say "get out of here" or "I regret having her."
If she were a boy, what would you do? If a boy doesn't obey, he will be beaten.
My daughter is getting older, and I need to have heartfelt conversations with her and save her face. I once hit her in front of her classmates, and now I regret it. We didn't understand it before, so we'll learn slowly."
Liu Yafang nodded: "I found that you have changed in just half a year."
Bi Jinzhi put down the wine cup and smiled: "How can it not change? I always think that my Juanzi is pitiful enough. If I, as a mother, don't love her, who will?
We depend on each other for survival.
"Sister-in-law, when we first started running the factory, we got up early and went to bed late. After a tiring day, my daughter talked to you. Sometimes I was too busy to eat, so she cooked and brought it to me. The first time I did this, I was so moved that I cried while eating."
People in the room were still chattering about family matters and eating home-cooked meals. Bi Yue glanced at Fu Juan and found that the girl was pouting her thick lips in surprise and staring at her stomach.
"Don't imitate me, you hear me?"
"Sister, you're really brave. Just be thankful that my aunt didn't break your legs. Don't worry, I can't make money, I can't get the first place in the exam, and I dare to imitate you? I can't do that."
…
Bi Jinzhi took Liu Yafang and Bi Yue to the farm. She pointed to a fat old sow and proudly introduced it:
"This is our star pig, niece. Don't laugh, the farmers here treat it like a movie star. Everyone who comes has to take a look at it, just to see how fresh it is."
He also took the mother and daughter to visit the star cows and star sheep.
Several people sat on Aunt Bi's tricycle and went to the newly bought place. Bi Jinzhi pointed to a large open space and said:
"Sister-in-law, Yueyue, I plan to build a few first and get the dairy processing plant ready. The rest will have to come slowly."
Finally, Bi Jinzhi took them to the popsicle factory.
"Watch your step, Yueyue, you have to be more careful."
The popsicle factory was covered with water stains and there was a fishy smell of milk as soon as you entered.
Bi Yue could withstand the pigpen and the sheep droppings, and she had been strong and nothing had happened. But when she got here, she started vomiting, with tears and snot coming out, and she vomited so much that she couldn't straighten her back.
Bi Jinzhi sighed as she watched. Seeing this scene, she seemed to truly realize that she was going to be a great aunt.
That night, Bi Yue asked Bi Jinzhi, "Auntie, Liu Qiangdong is a county magistrate, and he's working for you? He's even helping you with your business? He must have other needs. And Fu Guo, why is he working in the factory too?"
Bi Jinzhi looked at the ceiling, tilted her head to glance at her sleeping daughter, and then replied, "Go ahead and help if you want. One is to generate income and profit for us, and I will bring him political achievements. The other is to work for nothing, and you can't drive him away."
Liu Yafang continued, "Does Xiao Liu still have feelings for you? Logically speaking..." She wanted to say that it's reasonable for her to find a girl of her age, but she held it back, "You can't just be raising a child by yourself, right?"
Bi Jinzhi was very straightforward: "Forget it, sister-in-law. We are not together yet. We don't see each other often. When we are together, I find that men are like that. When you have less contact, you think everything is good."
"What about Juanzi's father?"
"Aunt, don't you feel upset when you see him? It's only been half a year."
Bi Jinzhi turned over and touched Bi Yue's belly:
"Yeah, it was frustrating. I was the one who wanted to chop him into pieces the most. In the first two months, I wanted to chop him to death with a stick whenever I saw him.
But he's good to Juanzi. For your sister's sake, I hope he doesn't end up in such a bad situation. If he likes to work, then let him do it.
It's hard to explain. Remarriage is impossible, and I don't need to deal with anyone now. My family has been helping me so much, and your uncle has been giving me money in installments. Why should I tie myself to any man? But... you'll know after you give birth."
Early the next morning, Bi Yue met Fu Guo.
Fu Guo looked even more foolish than before, like a little old man, with the front of his clothes stained with oil, a big basket in his hand, and wrinkles all over his face when he smiled.
Fu Guo said with a smile: "Yueyue, I heard that you and your mother went back to your hometown. I went to the back garden to pick some vegetables and bought some goose eggs from the stall next door. I'll save them for you to eat."
When Fu Juan heard Fu Guo's noise, she leaned over the windowsill and shouted, "Dad, have you had breakfast? I'll get you some buns."
Fu Guo walked out with a hunched back, turning back and waving his hands, saying, "No, no. My girl, I'm done eating. Stay home and have fun with your sister. Don't fight."
Bi Yue kicked the vegetable basket with her foot: "Is your father good to you?"
"That's good, it's good for my mom too. Whenever there's dirty or tiring work in the factory, the workers won't do it if they can't see them. But my dad still does it secretly despite my mom scolding him."
"You want your parents to remarry?"
