Chapter 24 Business is not going well

"It's still early. If everyone is willing, we can go to town again." Zheng Dandan saw that Su Cuilan looked unhappy, so she changed the subject.

"Of course they are willing. Why wouldn't they want to make money?" Sun Cuilan's eyes lit up and she made the decision for the Zheng family.

Zheng's father and his brothers and sisters-in-law also had expressions of approval.

"Okay, let's hurry up and clean up, or follow the previous division of labor." Zheng Dandan made arrangements upon seeing this.

"My daughter, Mom can't go. Your dad will sell fruits and vegetables with you. Let's put them aside for now. We don't make much anyway." Sun Cui looked at Zheng Dandan and said.

"Why can't you go? Are you tired today?" Zheng Dandan looked at Sun Cuilan in surprise. According to Sun Cuilan's personality, she would be reluctant to watch the money without earning it, right?

"What a tired bullshit! It's all because your elder brother and his wife can't enjoy themselves and have to go to the fields to work. As a result, I have to stay at home to cook and deliver meals for them!" Sun Cuilan was very dissatisfied. She felt that her elder brother Zheng Jianye and his wife not only didn't help, but they even held her back. How could she not be angry?

"If that's the only reason, we could pack food from the state-owned restaurant for my eldest brother and his wife, or send some rice and vegetables to my aunt's house, ask them to help with the cooking, and then take it to the fields," Zheng Dandan suggested to Sun Cuilan. Zheng's father had two brothers, and he was the middle child. Although they didn't live together after the family split up, the brothers still had a good relationship and often helped each other out when they encountered problems.

"You're right, why didn't I think of that just now!" Sun Cuilan suddenly realized, and her mood instantly warmed up. At least she wouldn't be delayed from making money because of delivering meals to the eldest brother and his wife. "I'll go find your aunt now, you guys clean up first."

Although Zheng Dandan prefers to go to the state-owned restaurant to take away the food so as not to owe anyone a favor, Sun Cuilan obviously prefers to ask Zheng Dandan's aunt for help to save money.

"Take more rice, flour and vegetables. Our family doesn't lack them now." Zheng Dandan knew Sun Cuilan's frugality and gave her special instructions.

Sun Cuilan paused when she heard Zheng Dandan's words and took a few more potatoes and radishes. She wasn't a stingy person; her inherent frugality was just a habit she'd developed during the famine years.

After arranging lunch for the eldest brother Zheng Jianye and his wife, the Zheng family members no longer had any worries and walked towards the town with their full backpacks.

As it was approaching noon, people on the road were in a hurry.

Zheng Jianjun was used to the atmosphere of the county town and actually started shouting.

"Rapeseed oil, 80 cents a pound, salt 50 cents a bag, no tickets needed!"

"Little brother, are you trying to kill yourself?" A customer who was moved by the content came forward and whispered to stop him.

"What's wrong with me?" Zheng Jianjun didn't understand.

"Although the patrols are generally turning a blind eye these days, you're being too arrogant by shouting. If you don't give them face, they might get back at you," the customer kindly warned. Of course, his kindness stemmed mainly from his desire to buy something. With such a good price, wouldn't it be a shame to get caught?

"You can just shout it out in the county town," Zheng Jianjun defended.

"The county is the county, this is town!" The customer looked at Zheng Jianjun with disdain, as if he didn't expect him to be so blunt. He waved his hand and said, "Forget it, forget it. Give me two kilograms of oil and a bag of salt."

As he said that, he took out two yuan and handed them to Zheng Jianjun.

Although Zheng Jianjun's behavior was a bit reckless, thanks to his shouting being heard, he actually became the first person to sell out the goods.

The second group to finish selling were Zheng Jiangong and his wife. The rice and flour they sold were in demand by every household. Compared to Zheng Jianjun's impulsive personality, Zheng Jiangong was much more tactful and considerate. Upon arriving, he noticed the difference in atmosphere between the town and the county seat. After putting down his backpack, he simply untied the black cloth covering it and let passersby stare at him, saying nothing.

"Girl, can you sell me some of your rice and flour?" A middle-aged woman came forward and asked Fang Xiaoyu.

Fang Xiaoyu nodded and quoted the price, "Rice is 1.3 yuan per pound, flour is 1.2 yuan per pound, no tickets required."

The middle-aged woman was very surprised to hear this. She immediately took out the money she had on her and counted it. Then she said, "Give me ten kilograms of rice and two kilograms of flour."

Upon hearing this, Zheng Jiangong immediately took out ten kilograms of rice and two kilograms of flour.

After the middle-aged woman paid, she only had two cents left on her body. If she hadn't brought only a little over one dollar, she would probably have bought more!

When the people who were watching not far away saw that their transaction was successful, they rushed forward and asked about the price. They immediately became excited and clamored to buy.

After a while, Zheng Jiangong and his wife's backpacks were empty.

Then it was Zheng's dad's turn. When pedestrians passed by, they saw that Zheng's vegetables were fresh and plump. After asking about them, they were surprised to find that the prices were cheap, so almost no one left empty-handed.

In comparison, Zheng Dandan and Sun Cuilan had some difficulty selling apples and oranges.

At this time of year, few people on the street were there specifically to buy things. Furthermore, fruit was expensive and not a necessity. Unless someone had plenty of money or was particularly fond of fruit, no one else would even glance at it.

"Little sister, is everything going well?" When the second brother Zheng Jiangong came over, he saw that there was still half of the food left in Zheng Dandan and the others' backpacks, and asked with concern.

"That's right, there are not many people asking about it!" Sun Cuilan had experienced two instances of selling out quickly, and this time it was taking a long time to sell, which made her feel quite disappointed.

"It can't be said that it's not going smoothly. This is actually very normal. The speed is even quite fast. Many people in business still have trouble selling their products." Zheng Dandan analyzed objectively.

"Let's take some and go shopping somewhere else. All the rice and flour are sold out anyway." Zheng Jiangong offered to help.

"Alright." Zheng Dandan agreed and took out a few pounds of fruit for her second brother and his wife. "Brother and sister-in-law, if you have a chance, exchange your money for some food and meat coupons. Let's go to the state-owned restaurant for dinner today."

She hasn't eaten meat for a long time, and now she's drooling just thinking about it!

"Why go to a state-owned restaurant? It costs so much money!" Sun Cuilan was reluctant, as there was a whole family involved.

"How much money can we spend on food? We earned a lot today. Let's treat ourselves well and celebrate. Besides, isn't the purpose of making money to enjoy life? If life is hard, what's the point of having more money?" Zheng Dandan said righteously.

If money is not spent, it is just a piece of waste paper.

Seeing that Sun Cuilan did not object, the second brother Zheng Jiangong agreed to Zheng Dandan.

Soon, Zheng's father and third brother Zheng Jianjun also arrived to help Zheng Dandan and Sun Cuilan sell the fruit. With strength in numbers, after more than ten minutes, the fruit was finally sold out.

Zheng Dandan and her group went to the state-owned hotel.

"You're finally here. I thought you were just kidding me. What would you like to eat today?" The waiter at the state-owned restaurant was particularly enthusiastic when he saw Zheng Dandan, whom he hadn't seen for a long time.
