Vegetarian buns
The night before the college entrance exam, Song Shixia hadn't even started to get nervous when the phone at home started ringing non-stop. It was all friends and relatives calling to wish her good luck on the exam. Her brother even encouraged her by saying he would give her a car if she got into college.
Her originally calm mentality suddenly became overwhelming, especially when she received a strange phone call from a group of people who sounded like they were in their 50s. The pressure reached its peak.
The other party did not introduce himself, but just said that he was a teacher at a certain school and wished her good luck in the college entrance examination. Song Shixia had never heard of these teachers' names, and it was strange that they called her home.
It was not until they enthusiastically invited her to choose physics or mathematics as her major in college that she subconsciously looked up and saw Professor Ji's confused and hesitant expression, and she immediately understood.
She covered the microphone and asked him with her mouth, "Is this your teacher?"
Ji Weiqing nodded hesitantly. Song Shixia didn't know what to say. It was her first time to call such national treasure-level academicians, and it turned out that they were trying to trick her into studying physics.
At night, Song's mother wanted the couple to sleep separately, but Song Shixia thought it was unnecessary. Before the exam, the two of them were very restrained and simply slept in each other's arms. As long as she didn't tease him, Professor Ji would hardly mess around.
Song Shixia grabbed the collar of his pajamas,
"You're not going to let me study physics, are you?"
Ji Weiqing sighed helplessly, "No, I respect all your choices."
Song Shixia was half-believing and half-doubting. What if he was convinced by the teachers?
The next morning, Professor Ji pulled her out from under the quilt while she was still half asleep.
“It’s time to get up.”
Song Shixia glanced at the alarm clock in a daze.
"Don't make a fuss. The exam is at nine and I'll be up at seven."
Ji Weiqing didn't continue calling her, but just helped her put on her clothes. After she was dressed, Song Shixia was completely sober.
She lay paralyzed on the bed, looking up at the sky, still feeling grumpy from waking up.
When Ji Weiqing went downstairs, Ji Yanran was already sitting at the dining table eating breakfast.
"Is my sister-in-law awake?"
"I'm dressed, but I'm still in a daze."
Ji Yanran bit the bun and concentrated on eating breakfast.
Song's mother picked out two vegetarian buns in the kitchen and complained to Ji Weiqing, "Xia Xia is really bold. She dared to stay in bed during the college entrance examination."
Ji Weiqing was holding a plate with Song Shixia's breakfast on it.
"She didn't fall asleep until ten o'clock last night. Let her lie down for a while."
Song's mother sighed, "You are the only one who is used to her and has made her lazy."
Ji Weiqing went upstairs with breakfast. The person on the bed was nowhere to be seen, and the sound of washing came from the bathroom.
"I've put breakfast on the table for you. Remember to eat it while it's hot."
Song Shixia popped her head out of the bathroom with toothpaste in her mouth.
“I’m very angry now.”
Ji Weiqing didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Six o'clock was a bit early, but because he was worried about wasting time on the road, he wanted her to wait outside the examination room in advance.
He looked apologetic, "I'm sorry, I haven't taken the college entrance exam, I just saw Yanran get up at five, so I waited until six to wake you up."
"You are amazing. Unlike us, you have to get up early to take the college entrance examination."
Song Shixia turned around proudly. It would only take half an hour to drive to the examination room, so it would be just right for her to get up at seven o'clock.
After breakfast, Ji Yanran carefully moved to her sister-in-law's side.
"Sister-in-law, are you in a bad mood?"
Song Shixia pinched her face and said, "Why did you get up so early? You got up at five o'clock."
Ji Yanran quickly begged for mercy, "Because I was too excited about the college entrance examination, but I fell asleep in bed at eight o'clock last night."
Song Shixia became even angrier. Yanran thought she had slept for ten hours, but he had slept one hour less.
As the saying goes, getting up early makes you stupid for the whole day, but because I got enough sleep, I felt refreshed instantly after washing my face, and I felt that I was in good shape for today’s exam.
Song Shixia and Ji Yanran checked each other's examination tools, and Ji Weiqing helped to check them again. Two pens were prepared for all uses in case of emergency.
The little ones were still asleep, standing at the door in their pajamas to see their mother out.
Ji Yuan rubbed his eyes and said, "Come on, Mom! Get a perfect score!"
Ji Yang corrected his brother, "It's a perfect score. The adult's test paper is not a perfect score of 100, it's a perfect score of 120."
Ji Yuan nodded heavily: "Mom always gets full marks on the exam, Mom is the best!"
Song Shixia bent down and kissed the little guys one by one.
"You guys go back to sleep. By the time you wake up, Mom will have finished the exam."
Ji Yang stood on tiptoe and quickly kissed her on the cheek. He looked embarrassed.
"Grandma said I was a lucky doll. I share my luck with you. Mom is the best."
Ji Yuan squeezed his head and came over.
"I want to kiss my mother, too. I am also a lucky doll."
Song Shixia was deeply moved. It was clearly a joke from the adults, but the two guys took it to heart and naively passed on the good luck to her.
She patted their heads one by one and said, "Okay, Mom will work hard and get good grades to be your pride."
Ji Yanran was extremely envious of this scene, she also wanted to be her sister-in-law's child, and she was even more envious of how well her sister-in-law and the children got along, the relationship was deeper than that between biological mother and children.
Song Shixia got in the car reluctantly. She was having an awkward argument with Professor Ji, and thinking about the strange phone call last night, she was afraid that she would be transferred to the School of Physics.
Ji Yanran felt very nervous. Normally, her sister-in-law and brother always had such sweet conversations with each other, but she had never imagined the low pressure in the car today. She didn't even know why her sister-in-law was unhappy.
The good thing is that my sister-in-law only has opinions about my brother, and she is still very gentle to her, so she was tactful enough not to speak for my brother.
The car arrived at the test site at 7:50. Many candidates came outside the examination room. All of them had heavy expressions and the atmosphere was extremely tense.
Ji Weiqing asked the two of them to rest in the car. The candidates outside were either mumbling to themselves facing the wall, apparently reciting words or math formulas; or they were children accompanied by their parents, holding textbooks in their hands and cramming.
Ji Yanran took a quick look and then looked away. She was already nervous.
"Sister-in-law, my hands are shaking."
"Don't scare yourself. We are in the same test center, and the test rooms are on the same floor. And this is your high school, so you should feel more comfortable. This is your home field. Just treat it as your fourth mock joint exam."
Ji Yanran breathed a sigh of relief. "Those people outside looked so serious. I had some confidence at first, but I was scared by them."
"Don't worry about others. If you can get into the top ten in your grade, what you should care about most is the reaction of those who are better than you before the test, not those who are not as good as you. You see, I am not nervous."
Song Shixia was not very nervous, and she was even less nervous after the quarrel with Professor Ji. The only thing that made her feel stressed was that a lot of people called her yesterday to encourage her, which instantly made her feel burdened.
At 8:30, the tools were checked so that students could enter the examination room in advance. Song Shixia met an unexpected person in the examination room, a lazy student in the class. She forgot his name, but only remembered that his last name was Bai and he was very self-righteous.
She didn't take the other person seriously. The fact that their seats were far apart had nothing to do with her.
She concentrated on answering the questions, and Bai Qiurui's eyes never left Song Shixia until the invigilator coughed to remind him, then he lowered his head to answer the questions.
During the days before the college entrance examination, my mother-in-law lived at home and took turns cooking with my mother. In order to avoid eating an upset stomach, the meals were very light.
Fortunately, the college entrance examination is only a few days away, and I will be completely liberated after the exam.
However, only after Ji Yanran was liberated did Song Shixia officially start to get busy.
During the period of reviewing for the college entrance examination, Yao Xuejie helped her to receive many orders, most of which came from old friends and business partners of Yao's father.
Hearing that the boss had returned to campus to take the college entrance examination, that group of people were waiting for Song Shixia to finish the exam.
Song Shixia almost fainted when she saw the order after the college entrance examination. They ordered so much wine, did these people drink it as water?
But before I started making wine, it was time for my mother to go home. At that time, she said she would go home after she finished the college entrance examination.
Song Shixia was used to eating hot meals every day when she came back from the library. Now that her mother was going home, she felt uncomfortable and reluctant.
Ji Yanran suggested taking Aunt Song to go shopping in a big shopping mall. Aunt Song has hardly been out for such a long time since coming to the capital.
Ji Weiqing glanced at his sister with admiration. People who have finished the college entrance examination have become much smarter.
Ji Yanran looked away with a guilty conscience. It was her mother who had told her to ask her sister-in-law to take her mother to the mall to buy some things. Her mother said that her sister-in-law's mother didn't come to the capital often, and things in small places were expensive, so she asked her brother to pay for some things for her sister-in-law's family.
Han Rong wanted to go along, but she was afraid that her mother-in-law would be too restrained. Xiao Song had inherited her mother's disposition and didn't want to take advantage of others. If she went along, she estimated that her mother-in-law wouldn't buy anything. She pretended that she had something to do and asked Ji Yanran to remind her to go shopping, and let her son pay.
Song Shixia had this plan a long time ago, but before she could think of an excuse, Yanran took the initiative to suggest that she didn't have to persuade her mother anymore.
"Yes, Mom, you've been to the capital for so long and you've only been to the mall once and didn't buy anything. You must bring something back with you this time, so that people in our village won't ask you questions."
The last time we went to the mall, my father was there too. My mother just looked at everything and was reluctant to buy anything, saying that she could buy everything in the countryside.
Song Shixia compared prices and found that things in the Capital Mall were cheaper than those in small county towns.
Song's mother subconsciously wanted to refuse, but her daughter and son-in-law were looking at her, so she couldn't say no.
"Then go shopping, but we have everything we need at home, so don't buy anything for me."
Song Shixia agreed verbally, but was ruthless in buying things, and his mother couldn't persuade him at all.
Ji Yanran took Aunt Song's arm and did not let her stop her sister-in-law and brother from shopping.
"Auntie, don't worry. My sister-in-law bought only daily necessities. It doesn't matter where you buy them. It's better to buy them all at once in the capital."
Song's mother said anxiously, "This is too expensive. These things can be bought anywhere. There is no need to waste money in a big shopping mall."
Ji Yanran said sweetly,
"It's not a waste at all. Spending money on your loved ones is a token of your love, not a waste of money. When I make some money in the future, I'll bring my mom to the mall to buy clothes, and I'll buy whatever she points to."
Song's mother sighed.
"Alas, there is no need for soap in the countryside. Your sister-in-law can't keep the money she has. It will cost a lot of money when the two children grow up."
Although her child is still young, she found out during her time living in the city that it is really expensive. Food, clothing, housing, water and electricity all cost money. She also has to spend money to buy vegetables from her own garden to feed the chickens. She can't afford to waste the money she has.
When the two children grow up, they will definitely move out. Where will they get a house? They can’t live together with their parents. And they can’t just buy one house. One for each of the two children will cost a lot of money.
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival everyone!
