Roberts is a highly experienced helicopter pilot.
He and his co-pilot, Gates, have been patrolling this area for half a month.
Nothing unusual has been found in the past two weeks.
Roberts didn't understand what the Red Alliance headquarters wanted them to scan here.
Now that the anomaly has finally been discovered, Roberts is somewhat pleased.
I couldn't help but glance at the instruments Gates was operating in the passenger seat.
The scanner detected countless red dots.
Even though operating the detector wasn't his specialty, he understood that seeing so many red dots wasn't a good thing.
Roberts asked in surprise, "What's going on? Why are there so many red dots on your instrument?"
The co-pilot, Gates, was also confused.
"I don't know. The red dots indicate that abnormal life has been detected, but how come there are so many? Maybe the instrument is malfunctioning?" the co-pilot said.
“If it’s an instrument malfunction, fix it as soon as possible so we can finish today’s patrol mission quickly,” Roberts said.
"Yes," the co-pilot replied, checking the instruments.
But no matter how many times he checked it, he couldn't find out what was wrong with the instrument.
"The instruments seem to be working fine," the co-pilot said, puzzled.
Roberts laughed and said, "But we can't see any mutated creatures down there. The instruments are showing so much, they must be displaying the wrong thing."
To prove that he was right, Roberts even had the helicopter fly lower.
The passenger in the front seat also saw it; there was indeed nothing on the ground.
"Let's report this to the administrator of the temporary base," the co-pilot said.
Roberts did not object.
The co-pilot called out: "Calling headquarters, calling headquarters, abnormal life forms detected in the mission area, number unknown, please provide instructions."
However, all that came from the microphone was a buzzing sound of electricity.
Where is the front desk? Why isn't anyone answering?
"What's going on with them? What are these people doing?!"
Both of them were somewhat angry.
They had just flown out of the temporary base less than an hour ago. Everything was fine before they came out, so why is no one answering now?
The co-pilot had to repeat himself: "Calling headquarters, calling headquarters, abnormal life forms detected in the mission area, number unknown, please advise."
After waiting for a while, there was still no response.
Roberts frowned and said, "There's nothing unusual to be seen with the naked eye. Let's head back."
"No, we can't return!" The co-pilot surprisingly objected to Roberts' suggestion. "According to previous instructions from headquarters, our mission is at a very high level. Any abnormal situations must be reported and handled immediately. If necessary, we can bypass our authority and report directly to Alliance headquarters via satellite channel!"
Roberts was startled.
Such an order did indeed exist.
Gates added, "Now is probably the time to use this permission."
As Gates spoke, he opened the door to the satellite communication equipment inside the cabin.
"Calling headquarters, calling headquarters, this is Flight Mission 622, please respond..."
When the apocalyptic war broke out, in addition to ground attacks, the war also spread to the sky, and countless satellites were destroyed at that time.
However, as the organization at the forefront of technology, the Red Alliance still has a few usable military satellites.
It's just that it avoids consuming resources and doesn't allow use unless there's an important message.
Only now, at this critical moment, can satellite communication be established.
"Calling headquarters, calling headquarters, this is Flight Mission 622, please respond..."
Gates called several times, but received no response.
What happened?
It's one thing that no one responded at their newly built temporary base, but why didn't even the headquarters respond?
The two of them frowned deeply.
Everyone sensed something unusual was going on, fearing that something might have happened.
Roberts said, "Let's turn back and go back to the temporary base."
"No, this task is a priority and must be dealt with first."
“But we don’t even know what we’re dealing with!” Roberts said angrily.
He didn't know why Gates insisted on staying to complete the mission.
Could it be that he received some secret mission or special instructions?
Gates said, "Go down a little further, let me see if there's anything on the ground."
Roberts nodded, and the plane continued its descent.
He was actually quite curious about what it was all about.
Otherwise, how could the mission level be so high?
After the plane descended to a certain altitude, the two finally saw what it was.
All that could be seen were patches of purple mushrooms sprouting from the ground.
The abnormal life indicated on the instrument, is that all?
mushroom?
Roberts was a little incredulous.
I took another look at the instrument.
That's right, the abnormal life forms are these mushrooms!
But there are just too many mushrooms!
How can we eliminate it?
Just when the two were at their wits' end, the aircraft's intelligent navigation system suddenly sounded an alarm.
[Warning, warning, abnormal radiation fluctuations detected. Please make an emergency landing immediately.]
[Warning, warning, abnormal radiation fluctuations detected. Please make an emergency landing immediately.]
"What? What abnormal radiation fluctuation?" Roberts exclaimed in shock.
Gates also hurriedly checked the navigation aids.
"Radiation levels have exceeded 100 and are still rising. This is bad, we need to make an emergency landing!"
A certain amount of radiation is something that people in the apocalypse can withstand to some extent.
