Chapter 410 The epidemic is rampant (8)

The three of them deliberately bypassed that place and came to the door of their wooden house.

Lu Chunlai couldn't laugh anymore. He frowned, said something to Xia Yueke, went back, and disappeared.

It seemed that he was also frightened by the scene just now.

Xia Yueke and Cangwu quickly took off their clothes, burned them, and took a hot bath before they breathed a sigh of relief.

Now that she has a general understanding of the environment outside, she doesn't dare to run around in the tribe and doesn't want to go out again for the time being.

Xia Yueke lived a short and comfortable life like this. On the third, fourth, and fifth days of the game, the people in the dozen or so wooden houses around him did not show up, but lived on the supplies they had stockpiled before.

They had enough water resources, so they didn't have to go out to fetch water. They used the water in the water tank every day. Xia Yueke also made a special observation and found that the water in the river seemed to be rarely used by humans, and most of it was used by the orcs.

There was no problem for the first few days, until one orc's shout spread throughout the tribe, "My tribesmen, don't use the water from the river anymore. The water in the river is infected. My father drank the water yesterday and got the disease. He didn't even go out, so don't drink it!"

The orc's voice was full of energy at first, but became weak later, as if he was also infected with the plague. But before he died, he still said these words. Finally, he left and went to the witch doctor's place, using the witch doctor's medicine to hold on to his last breath, until his whole body was covered with rashes and he died of pus discharge.

The witch doctor's cave was already overcrowded. His beds were filled with orcs, and even the ground was covered with orcs infected with the plague. The old witch doctor's hair had turned white with worry.

Xia Yueke heard that the water in the river was indeed undrinkable and felt like she had survived a disaster. Fortunately, she did not let her guard down and was reluctant to drink water. It would have been really bad if she had really touched that water a few days ago.

As soon as this news spread, the orcs in the tribe were in an uproar. Now, their food was almost gone, and even the food they had prepared for the winter was slowly being consumed. If the water supply stopped immediately, these orcs would die of thirst within three days.

This finally triggered a riot. A large number of orcs, regardless of their own safety, ran to the clan leader's house to make trouble, asking what was going on, why the plague appeared, why the witch doctor was so useless, and so on.

The tribe leader was an old lion king, and he was exhausted these days. However, facing these people who wanted to rebel, he could only patiently say, "My fellow tribesmen, I have sent people to a distant place to carry water. Don't worry, go back quickly. Water will be delivered in two days!"

These tightly wrapped orcs left reluctantly.

Xia Yueke hid at home and heard the noisy sounds of the orcs outside. He shook his head helplessly. They went out to get together this time and didn't know if there were any infected orcs among them. If not, it would be fine. If so, many more would probably die.

But Xia Yueke didn't have a good impression of these orcs. It was probably because in the previous game, the orcs had a terrifying image.

"It's time to eat."

Cangwu came out of the kitchen and took off her apron virtuously.

Xia Yueke couldn't help but sigh that this person was so smart. He had learned cooking thoroughly in these three or four days. She only taught him once as long as she remembered.

Now, Cangwu can make many delicious dishes on his own, and can also research many different styles. Although there are only a few kinds of meat and a lot of seasonings are bought, Cangwu can always make different flavors that make her eyes light up.

Cangwu walked out of the kitchen carrying the meal. The moment it was placed on the table, an alluring aroma filled the air. The main course was a golden, crispy flatbread, brushed with a layer of translucent grease, dotted with finely chopped spices, and with slightly bulging edges, it was mouth-watering just by looking at it.

The stewed meat on the side is a real gem. The meat is cut into evenly sized cubes and stewed until it is tender and flavorful, and the meat and bones fall apart easily with a gentle pinch. The rich broth is a dark brown, comparable to braised pork in red sauce.

There is also a dish of cold wild vegetables. The tender green leaves are carefully processed and neatly arranged on the plate, topped with homemade sauce. The sauce is made of ground nuts, fermented fruit vinegar and side dishes, and the taste is unique.

Xia Yueke's appetite had become picky after being raised by Cangwu these past few days, but seeing these different new tricks, she began to get restless again.

The two of them cleared all the food off the table, leaving nothing behind.

Xia Yueke often observed the outside world and found that the humans around him had already put on animal skins and integrated into this group of orcs, but they did not interact with these orcs and only looked at them.

It seemed like no one wanted to openly tell others that they were outsiders. It would also make them vulnerable to being targeted by their own people, just like the last robbery incident.

On the eighth day of the game, the water carriers that the chief had mentioned finally arrived and indeed brought a lot of water. These orcs finally stopped making a fuss and stayed at home honestly. However, because of the last incident, many orcs were also tricked and their entire families died.

Until seven or eight days later, another big thing happened.

Cangwu made another wooden bed in the room and placed it as far away from Xia Yuke as possible so that she wouldn't have to sleep on the floor anymore.

On the tenth day of the game, it was late at night and everything was silent. Xia Yueke and Cangwu tossed and turned in their sleep, immersed in dreams.

Suddenly, a shrill cry of orcs cut through the night sky like a sharp blade, piercing the eardrums and waking up everyone in the surrounding area from their sleep.

The voice was high-pitched and sorrowful, revealing endless fear and despair, as if it came from the abyss of hell.

Xia Yueke woke up instantly, her heart pounding like thunder. She didn't even have time to put on her shoes and ran to the window barefoot.

Outside the window, the night was as thick as ink, and shadows were everywhere in the darkness. She held her breath and listened nervously to the noise outside. Soon, she understood that it was the orcs who were being robbed!

"Hurry up, someone, please wake up, someone is stealing the food! Please come and help."

A young female's heart-wrenching cry, her voice trembling, was particularly harsh in the silent night, like a wounded trapped animal crying for help.

But all she got in response was dead silence, no sign of help. Then, several more orcs let out the same miserable screams, the sounds rising and falling, each one piercing her heart.

It can be imagined that even if the orcs transformed into beast form to resist, they were still no match for those vicious robbers and were ruthlessly killed.

Xia Yueke stood frozen in front of the window, biting her lower lip tightly, her fingers turning white from the effort. Her heartbeat was rapidly accelerating, each beat pounding heavily against her chest.

In this dark night, every scream was like a heavy hammer, hitting her fragile nerves.

Those orcs who were robbed were so pitiful. They were already terrified by the plague, and now even the food they needed to survive was taken away. They struggled in the darkness, but no one came to their aid.
