…
On the tenth day of the first lunar month, the morning light is just breaking.
The Huang family's yard was already bustling with activity, and the air was filled with anticipation and joy.
Father Huang paced back and forth in the yard, directing everyone in a loud voice and checking today's matters.
"Huzi, go outside and see if the drivers are here yet?"
As soon as Huang's father's voice fell, Hu Zi responded and left, with light steps and excitement on his face.
"Whistle, these are wedding cigarettes. You will be responsible for distributing them later."
Whistle immediately took the cigarette box.
"His uncle, you sit at the door and write down the gift list later."
"I understand, brother-in-law. I'll go after I finish my meal." The uncle nodded in agreement.
"His aunt, have you divided up the wedding candies and melon seeds?"
My aunt-in-law responded with a smile: "Don't worry, brother-in-law. My sister and I packed everything last night. Why hasn't my sister come out yet?"
Father Huang pointed towards the inner room and said with a smile, "Someone in the room is so conceited."
Hearing this, my aunt-in-law chuckled, "Haha, it's my duty. After all, I'm happy to marry my daughter-in-law today. Hey, brother-in-law, why aren't you wearing the new clothes your daughter bought you?"
Huang's father stroked the stubble on his chin and explained, "I've been busy all morning. I'll make arrangements first. Once they leave to pick up the bride, I'll still have time to clean up."
As Father Huang spoke, he called out, "Guizi, go see if your grandson from Grandma Wang's house is up yet? Wenrong, it's time for you sisters to get up too."
"Dad, we'll be out soon." Huang Wenrong's voice came from inside the house, with the crispness and vitality unique to a girl.
Inside the house, Wen Xia was combing his hair in front of the mirror, muttering, "My dad's loud voice woke me up a long time ago."
Xu Mengyao put on her lipstick, patted Wenxia's head gently, and said softly:
"My elder sister and I will go with my elder brother to pick up the bride first. You stay home and help them guard the bridal chamber. Don't let those little brats mess up what we worked so hard to decorate."
Wen Xia blinked and asked in confusion, "Ah, we still have to guard it? Can't we lock it?"
Xu Mengyao smiled and shook her head. "If grandma heard you say that, she'd scold you for not knowing the rules. You don't lock the door in a bridal chamber."
"Okay then, I'll ask Cheng Xin to come over early to keep watch with me." Wen Xia looked a little helpless, but then he showed a mischievous smile.
Upon hearing this, Huang Wenrong gently poked Wenxia on the head and said half-jokingly and half-seriously, "You keep calling Cheng Xin all the bad names. You better tone it down a bit. If you don't do well in the college entrance exam this year, I'll show you how I'll deal with you."
Wenxia stuck out her tongue, made a face, and ran out of the door, leaving behind a string of silver bell-like laughter.
Huang Wenbin was already dressed neatly and standing in the main room, fixing his hair. With his slender figure and well-fitting clothes, he looked exceptionally handsome.
Father Huang looked at the time and saw that it was almost time, so he began to direct everyone to set off.
Xu Mengyao had already asked Uncle Zhang to drive a car from Haicheng as a wedding car in advance.
The car was parked quietly outside the yard. The body of the car was clean and tidy, with a big wedding character pasted on the front of the car and a flower ribbon tied around the rearview mirror.
Huang Wenbin opened the car door and sat in the driver's seat.
Xu Mengyao and Huang Wenrong sat in the back seat with Grandma Wang's grandson. Wang Shuai was holding a rope with a live rooster at the other end. It wanted to spread its wings and fly away from time to time, which scared Xu Mengyao so much that she lay close to the car door.
"Shuai Shuai, I'm begging you, you must catch the chicken." Xu Mengyao reminded her with a hint of nervousness on her face.
Wang Shuai, a little devil, comforted her, "It's okay, Sister Juan. It just likes to flutter around, it won't bite you."
Huang Wenbin started the car, and a truck followed behind with a group of good brothers.
Two cars drove one after the other and turned into Zhaojia Village.
The villagers followed and ran towards the Zhao family. The door was already crowded with people. The envious eyes and blessings made the whole team even more joyful.
Huang Wenbin, along with a group of good brothers, walked into the Zhao family's yard and shouted loudly:
"Pingping, I'm here to take you home."
As soon as the words fell, the group of brothers behind him repeated in unison:
"Pingping, I'm here to take you home."
The people in the yard suddenly burst into laughter, and the atmosphere was warm and cheerful.
The Zhao family suddenly felt very proud.
Father Zhao responded with a smug smile: "Good son-in-law, you have to knock on the door."
Huang Wenbin walked forward confidently and shouted, "Mom and Dad, I'm taking Pingping away right now."
After saying that, he stepped forward and pushed the door open, and the brothers behind him swarmed in.
Originally, the married young wives in the village wanted to embarrass the groom, but the wooden door of the Zhao family could not withstand such a push and was easily opened.
Facing the grumbling women, Huang Wenbin pulled out a stack of red envelopes from his pocket and distributed them. The women smiled brightly, took the red envelopes, and stepped aside.
Huang Wenbin rushed in happily, picked up Zhao Ping who was lying on the bed, and walked out.
Huang Wenrong followed closely behind, quickly holding up a red umbrella to shield Zhao Ping's head. Xu Mengyao followed cautiously behind, holding the dowry bedding.
After saying goodbye to Zhao's father and mother in Zhaojia Village, the group returned to Huang's house happily.
As soon as they entered the family compound, they heard a deafening sound of gongs and drums. This was the performance Huang's mother had specially paid for.
Zhao Ping was helped out of the car, and Wen Xia and his cousins immediately gathered around.
While shouting "What a beautiful bride", they scattered colorful confetti on the road as they passed.
"The bride is so beautiful!" a little boy shouted excitedly.
