Chapter 18 A Mess
"You're back so soon?" Mrs. Du saw her husband and others coming back with things on their backs.
"Okay, the place has been chosen." Su Bucheng put the things on the ground.
There was a large pile of rotten soil outside the yard, and the women and children were sifting the soil or drying it out to dry.
Old Mrs. Su, who had nothing to do, used a simple bamboo shovel to dig up the soil and turn it over to dry it. While doing it, she scolded Su He for being lazy and procrastinating for a long time without doing much work.
Su He glared at Old Lady Su angrily, but didn't dare to talk back, as he would be beaten by the old lady if he did.
"The land has been chosen. Where is it? Is it far away?" Mrs. Du didn't expect it to be so smooth.
"Over there in the village, there are two large plots of land, almost connected together. They were chosen by the village chief's family and given to us."
"Ah? This, isn't good, Dalang?" Mrs. Du felt something was wrong.
"The land deeds have been signed, and we will have land here in the future! It's okay, don't worry! We will help each other in the future, and the village chief and others will also need our help." Su Bucheng smiled.
"Da Lang, why don't I understand what you are saying?" Mrs. Du looked at her husband in confusion.
Others have done their family a huge favor, so why should the husband take it for granted? From what he said, it seems that the village will have to rely on their family in the future.
The family is so poor that they have no food to eat. How can the husband have the confidence?
Looking at the other people who went with them, they also had happy faces.
"The land here is barren, and the soil that has been planted in the village for many years has become very hard. Ah Ying taught us a way to deal with it." Su Bucheng was full of pride and pride when he spoke of this.
"Da Lang, why don't you stop him? If the village has no harvest next year, Aying will be blamed!" Mrs. Du was angry.
Ah Ying kindly helped in the locust extermination matter, but in the end the old lady blamed everything on her daughter, and her scolding was heartbreaking.
When she first came up with the idea, the old lady thought it would benefit Dalang's career, and encouraged Aying to be bold and do it with all her heart.
When the disaster was about to happen, she immediately turned against her granddaughter and told the officials that it was her granddaughter's idea and it had nothing to do with her son.
And my niece Su He who got into trouble always brings up this matter.
Mrs. Du really felt sorry for her daughter. Her kindness was not rewarded, and she even had to take the blame.
"Well, Fairy, how bad can things get? We're already in this state, with the village floors caked like that. Even if Ah Ying didn't say anything, they wouldn't have much of a harvest.
Using Ah Ying's method, perhaps it can really be saved! Ah Ying's words make sense, we will rotate crops in the future." Su Bucheng told his wife what happened in detail.
After listening to this, Mrs. Du remained silent for a long time and agreed with her daughter's statement.
"Da Lang, even if what Ah Ying said makes sense, we shouldn't let the villagers know so quickly. At least we should wait until we verify it before promoting it. This is safer." Mrs. Du said.
"We were discussing this by the field at the time. Who knew the village chief and others would be listening from behind? Some things are just coincidences! They have already happened and we can't change the reality. Anyway, it's not a bad thing." Su Bucheng comforted his wife.
"We are going to dig the ground. Do you want to go and take a look at our land?" Su Bucheng asked his wife before leaving.
"I'm busy now. I'll go when I'm free in the evening." Mrs. Du didn't stop the work in her hands.
"Uncle, where is Su Ying?" Su He called out to Su Bucheng with a questioning tone in his voice.
Su He asked this question, and Mrs. Du finally realized that she hadn't seen her daughter, but why did these words sound so harsh? She glared at Su He unhappily.
Su Bucheng frowned slightly. This niece was becoming more and more unruly. She yelled at her elders and stared at Ah Ying every day. He said coldly, "Ah Ying, go find some lime!"
"Looking for lime? Haven't you found it? Why is she nowhere to be found? There is so much work to do, but she is nowhere to be found! Uncle, why don't you say something? You can't let everyone treat her like a young lady, right?" Su He kept accusing Su Ying.
"She went to Qingshi Mountain to check out the lime kiln, and this amount of lime is not enough. He'er, Aying knows how to do things in moderation, and there's no need for you to say anything." This was the first time Su Bucheng spoke harshly to his niece.
"Uncle! What did He'er say or do wrong? Why do you humiliate He'er like this!" Su He didn't expect that his uncle did not hide his disgust for her at all.
"He'er, just do your own job well and don't always stare at others! Aying's job is no easier than yours." Su Bucheng said while suppressing his anger.
"Su Ying is your daughter, of course you should excuse her! You can't be so partial.
We all work on an empty stomach, and I'm doing this for everyone's own good, for her own good. We're all exiles now, so we can't act like we're the rich and powerful! We have to face reality!"
"How dare you!" Su Bucheng was furious. "No rules!"
"Uncle!" Su He was scolded and tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Why does Dalang care about her? This damn girl is just looking for trouble and doesn't want to work!" Old Mrs. Su exposed the problem.
Of her three sons, Old Lady Su loves her eldest son the most. When Su He makes things difficult for her son, she will naturally stand up to help him.
"You, you are bullying me! Woohoo..." Su He threw the sieve in his hand, got up and ran back to the house.
"Bang, bang, bang!" Xiao Qin banged the basket hard to vent her dissatisfaction. They all came to bully their second branch, which was too much.
"Da Lang, it seems you ate too much and are feeling bloated, so you have the energy to make a fuss!
"I think this rule needs to be changed. Those who cause trouble should only have half a bowl of porridge, and the rest should be shared with those doing the heavy work," Mrs. Du said to her husband.
"Okay!" Su Bucheng nodded without hesitation.
If you don't clean up, they'll make a lot of noise every day, which is really annoying.
Working on an empty stomach is torture enough, and having to deal with this kind of troublemaker who keeps causing trouble would make anyone angry.
If you ignore it, it's just being arrogant; if you pay attention to it, it will make you look petty and lose your status.
My wife's trick is good, practical and effective.
"Nineth Lady, He'er will only have half a bowl of porridge tonight!" Mrs. Du said to Xiao Qin.
"Sister-in-law, don't you think it's too much? Bullying a child!" Xiao Qinshi no longer tolerated it.
"If she doesn't do it, I can bully her," Mrs. Du said coldly.
"You..." Xiao Qin stood up suddenly and glared at Du.
"You also want to eat only half a bowl of porridge." Mrs. Du looked straight at Xiao Qin.
"Hmph! Xiao Qin squatted down again, banging the basket.
Wei looked at her husband, suppressed her laughter, and lowered her head to continue her work.
If the second wife and her daughter continue to quarrel, this family will break up sooner or later. But in this remote place, is it really a good idea to divide the family?
With a mother like Xiao Qin who is confused and a daughter like Su He who is a troublemaker, I am afraid that Su Laoer's life will be in chaos and confusion in the future.
Su Bucheng shook his head, took the hoe and left. Some people can only share wealth but not adversity.
"Su He, you silly girl! You have a bad temper! You are so annoying! You are so irritable. Are you going to die if you don't do it for a day?" Old Mrs. Su yelled.
Su Bucheng walked ahead silently. Su Laosan took a few quick steps and caught up with him. "Brother, don't be angry with He'er. She has been like that since she was a child. She's not smart enough."
"Alas!" Su Bucheng sighed deeply, "Why should I get angry with a junior? He'er's words and actions are so rude and careless. I'm worried..."
What are you worried about? Su Bucheng thought about it and suddenly didn't know what to say.
In the end, I was the one who dragged down my two younger brothers.
When a tree grows up, it has branches; when children grow up, they have branches. When the old mother passes away one day, it is time for this family to be divided.
