Chapter 70: Don’t miss out on what God has given you

Chapter 70: Don’t miss out on what God has given you

"Mom! These sour dates, try them!" Bingyan picked a few golden ones from Su Ying's backpack.

"Sour jujubes? They're sour, right?" Wei looked at the yellow sour jujubes and began to drool.

"Please try some!" Bing Yan begged, "We picked up a lot, including chestnuts, walnuts, and tea fruit!"

Wei couldn't persuade her son, so she picked up one, tore open the skin and put it in her mouth. The son's face wrinkled immediately because of the sour taste.

"Is it delicious?" Bingyan was overjoyed to see his mother was sour.

"You little rascal, you've learned how to tease your mother!" Wei reluctantly ate it, then slapped her son's butt while scolding him with a smile, saying he was so naughty.

"Haha!" Bingyan took Wei's arm, "Mother, Ying said this can be used to make sour jujube cakes, which are delicious!"

"You little greedy cat! Can you eat something so sour?" One bite made Wei's teeth fall apart.

"Aying said that you need to add sugar to the sour jujube cake so that it won't be sour."

Bingyan was like a happy puppy, playing coquettishly with Wei and skipping as he walked.

"We don't have any candy at home!" Wei laughed, thinking Su Ying was just trying to cheer the children up. "Next time, don't go up the mountain without permission, okay?"

"No need!" Bingyan's voice suddenly became much softer.

It was he who went to chase his uncle and Zhao Yan followed him.

If something really happens, I will be the culprit.

Just now, Zhaoyan was slapped by his second aunt, and Bingyan felt his face burning.

"Oh, so many?" Old Mrs. Su saw that everyone was carrying a full basket and came over to take a look.

She had seen chestnuts, walnuts, and sour dates, but she had never seen tea fruit.

"Can this be eaten?" Old Mrs. Su looked at the oil tea fruit from left to right, not knowing where to start.

"This is a tea fruit. It can't be eaten raw. It's used to extract oil." Su Ying was afraid that the old lady would really take a bite.

"Hmph, who wants to eat it!" Old Mrs. Su made a fool of herself and threw down the oil tea fruit unhappily.

"Sister!" Xiaotao looked at so many things and felt full of joy.

"Xiaotao! Come and try the chestnuts!" Su Ying squeezed a chestnut open and handed it to Xiaotao.

Chestnut kernels are light yellow, the size of a thumb, crispy and tender, and have a sweet taste.

"Is it delicious?" Su Ying asked her sister.

"Yeah, delicious!" Xiaotao nodded.

"For A Lu!" Su Ying peeled another one.

"Alu, eat quickly!" Xiaotao handed the chestnuts to Su Lu.

No one was cooking porridge, so Su Lu stayed in front of the stove. She also wanted to watch the fun, but there had to be someone at the stove.

"Is it delicious?" Xiao Tao smiled, and the two sisters shared happily.

"Delicious!" It was the first time that Su Lu ate such fresh chestnuts, they were crispy and sweet.

"Alu, how long will the porridge take?" Su Ying asked.

"It will take a while, it's just started cooking!" Su Lu replied.

"Then let's add some chestnuts!" Su Ying began to peel chestnuts.

The young men didn't even have time to rest and gathered together to start fighting.

Chestnuts have brown fuzzy skin, which is difficult to peel and wears out your fingernails.

The whole family, young and old, were sorting and peeling chestnuts, talking about the fun of picking mountain products from time to time, and occasionally stealing a chestnut.

Old Mrs. Su found it interesting and squeezed in to listen to her grandchildren chatting.

The three brothers Su Bucheng took advantage of their free time to weave bamboo beds.

The noise of playfulness woke Su He up, and she came out sleepily. The laughter suddenly stopped, and everyone was silent, looking at her quietly.

Su He looked at the silent crowd and felt isolated.

No one invited her to join, but once she opened her mouth, she said something that irritated everyone.

"Hmph!" Su He felt embarrassed and snorted in disdain.

He sat down next to Xiao Qin without looking around, enjoying the fresh air while waiting for dinner.

Everyone continued to laugh and chat.

"Eat less, be careful of bloating." Su Ying patted the paws of the greedy little cats Bingyan, Zhaoyan and Xiaotao.

"Haha, chestnuts are delicious!" Bing Yan stretched out his claws and grabbed one.

"If you eat too much raw food, your stomach will hurt and you'll fart a lot!" Su Ying took the food from Bing Yan's hand, "Eat the cooked food later! Be good!"

Children have weak spleen and stomach, and chestnuts are high in starch. Eating too many raw chestnuts will cause difficulty in digestion and bloating, which can be very painful.

"Oh!" Bingyan was obedient and didn't make a fuss.

Fortunately, the chestnuts were fresh, and although they were difficult to peel, I was able to peel two or three bowls quickly.

Pour it into a clay pot, add water and simmer slowly.

Soon, a sweet fragrance filled the air. You can imagine how delicious the porridge will be tonight!

"Gurgle..." Someone's stomach began to growl.

"Oh! We haven't eaten yet!" Old man Yang brought Hu Zi in, carrying a basket of vegetables, including eggplant and cabbage.

"Village chief, please take a seat! Why are you bringing food?" Su Bucheng asked politely.

Just yesterday, Yang Erlang sent me two cabbages.

"They are freshly picked and very fresh! Please try them!" The village chief took out the vegetables one by one, and they were juicy and tender.

"Sir! I've finished copying the book and I'm returning it to you!" Hu Zi respectfully handed the book to Su Boyan.

Su Boyan brushed off the chestnut crumbs in his hand and took the book. The book was still flat, clean and well-preserved.

"After you have copied the book, read it more. If you don't understand something, just ask me. You can also ask your grandfather!" Su Boyan taught seriously like a teacher.

"It's saved by students!" Hu Zi replied respectfully.

"Young Master Su, you're back in the mountains so soon?" Old Man Yang exclaimed, looking at the baskets of mountain products. "Are you trying to save your lives?"

"It's okay. We went there in the afternoon and only picked up things outside the mountain. It would be a pity if we didn't pick up the mountain products and let them rot in the fields!" Su Bucheng said.

"Village chief, there are still a few days left for planting. Why don't we organize the villagers to go pick up the sorghum tomorrow? There's plenty on the mountain. Instead of letting it rot in the fields, it's better to pick it up and mix it with the porridge so that we can have a few more full meals."

"Yes, Village Chief, the weather has been good these past few days. The sour dates and chestnuts can be dried and ground into powder, which can be stored well. Adding a handful to porridge every day can save a lot of food."

Su Ying suggested, "It's a gift from God, don't miss it!"

Then he handed Old Man Yang a peeled chestnut and said, "Try it, it's so fresh! It's fragrant and sweet when cooked in porridge, and the chestnut powder is sweet. It's delicious and can satisfy your hunger!"

Old Man Yang ate the crispy chestnuts and smelled the sweet chestnut porridge, nodding repeatedly. "I'll go back and let everyone know. Are you still going tomorrow?"

"We have already picked up so much, so we won't go any further!" Su Bucheng waved his hand.

"Remember to remind everyone not to be greedy and not to go too deep. There is enough for everyone to pick up at the mountain pass."

"My dear, you are so thoughtful!" Village Chief Yang praised. "I have to follow you tomorrow, lest any greedy ones run away!"

"The village chief is absolutely right. We are here to find food, not to die. We should know when to stop and never be greedy!" Su Bucheng said.

"That's right, that's right!" Old man Yang said, and then said nothing more.

He sat there, hesitant to speak, as if he had something else to say.

"Is the village chief in trouble?" Su Bucheng has been in officialdom for many years, and reading people's expressions is a compulsory course for him. How could he not see it?

"Uh, Mr. Su, I want to ask, that, that..." Old man Yang hesitated and couldn't speak.

"What's the matter, village chief? Just tell me." Su Bucheng didn't know what was wrong with Old Man Yang that made him so embarrassed.

"Well, about that thing that went into the water at noon, I'd like to ask, how did you do it?" After the old man Yang finished speaking, his old face turned red unconsciously.

Who would come to ask for advice after eating?
