"Xiaomei, did Jiang He go to work this morning?" Aunt Wang shouted to Qiu Mei.
Qiu Mei didn't reply, but a strong man next to her replied for her: "No, Jiang Lan suddenly fell ill last night and should be in the hospital yet."
"Do you know what the reason is?"
"I don't know. I'll find out when Jiang He comes back and ask."
As soon as Qiu Mei finished speaking, someone on the other side expressed dissatisfaction: "A descendant of a traitor, he can get sick if he wants, why are you all so worried about him?"
"You can't say that. After all, that was a matter of our grandfathers. The two brothers, Jiang Lan and Jiang He, were good people."
"What do you know? Once you're a traitor, you're a traitor for generations. And you're still speaking up for traitors. Do you want to be criticized too?"
Everyone fell silent.
Aunt Wang was not afraid of these people and went over to ask. Mu Ruanruan didn't want to listen to what they said. She hurriedly picked up the paint bucket and rushed to Jiang Lan's house without even changing her clothes.
Jiang Xiaotao lay on the quilt and cried alone.
"Xiao Tao?"
The door was open, and Mu Ruanruan went straight in.
When Jiang Xiaotao saw her come in, he greeted her with a choked voice, "Teacher Mu."
"Have you eaten?" Mu Ruanruan put the paint bucket at the door, walked into the room, and asked softly.
Xiao Tao shook his head. Although he stopped crying, he was still sobbing. He looked at Mu Ruanruan with tears in his eyes and asked, "Will my father die?"
Mu Ruanruan was shocked when she heard this, and wondered what disease Jiang Lan had. The original book only mentioned that Jiang Lan had a leg disability and did not mention that he had any other diseases.
But she pretended to be relaxed and comforted Xiao Tao: "No way, the doctor will cure him."
Mu Ruanruan touched Xiao Tao's head and said, "I'll go get you something to eat. Do you want to come with me or wait for me here?"
"No need, Teacher Mu, I'm not hungry." As Xiao Tao said this, his stomach growled.
He held his stomach and lowered his head in embarrassment.
"Wait a moment, I'll go check your kitchen and see if there's anything I can do."
There was nothing in the kitchen except cooking utensils, only two eggs. She subconsciously thought of the two eggs at Jiang He's house, and wondered if she had eaten them.
Mu Ruanruan didn't bring anything today, and it would be inappropriate to take out too many things at once, so she took the two eggs, went to the space to buy some noodles, and cooked a bowl of egg noodles for Jiang Xiaotao.
The noodles were not cooked well, but the little guy still ate it happily. After he was full, he felt better and started to tell Mu Ruanruan about what happened last night.
After dinner, Jiang Lan wove a winnowing basket as usual, then climbed into bed to sleep.
Jiang He gave him a cart with wheels, where he usually sat. The room was flat, so it was convenient for him to move around without anyone's help. However, the bed was too high for him to get up by himself, so he needed help. Usually, Xiao Tao would help him.
Yesterday afternoon, Jiang Xiaotao played with his classmates until very late and came back home very tired. He actually fell asleep while sitting on the bed. Jiang Lan called him several times but he didn't wake up.
After that, Jiang Lan crawled onto the bed by himself, perhaps because he was pressed down somewhere, but he suddenly vomited blood and then fainted.
When Jiang Lan fell over, there happened to be an iron basin behind her, which made a loud and harsh noise and woke Jiang Xiaotao up.
When he woke up, he saw his father lying on the ground with blood coming out of his mouth. Thinking he was dead, he quickly ran to call Jiang He.
Jiang He called a few helpers and sent Jiang Lan to the hospital.
"Teacher Mu, it was me who killed my father, right?" Jiang Xiaotao thought that Jiang Lan vomited blood because he fell asleep.
Mu Ruanruan guessed that Jiang Lan must be feeling unwell somewhere, and she had been hiding it for a long time, so this had nothing to do with Jiang Xiaotao. She explained to Jiang Xiaotao in detail that even if he didn't help, it would be difficult for Jiang Lan to climb onto the bed, but she would definitely not vomit blood and faint.
The original book did not describe Jiang Lan much, only saying that he collected Jiang He's body, and did not mention what happened afterwards.
Could it be that things were changed by her?
Mu Ruanruan asked him if he had noticed any discomfort or strange behavior on the part of his father.
Jiang Xiaotao recalled that he often held his stomach, but when people asked him about it, he said it was okay.
Mu Ruanruan had some guesses in her mind, but she couldn't be sure. Now that Jiang He was with him in the hospital, the doctors would certainly do their best to treat him, and their worries would be of no use.
Jiang Xiaotao was prone to daydreaming when he was alone at home, so Mu Ruanruan took him to school to draw posters.
While painting, Li Dazhu came over and walked around a few times. Because Jiang Xiaotao was there, he just looked from a distance for a while and then left.
But Mu Ruanruan did not miss his expression, the look of someone who was determined to go all out.
Mu Ruanruan was not very clear about what Li Dazhu was plotting in his mind, but she knew it was definitely not a good thing, so she took precautions and bought an electric baton in her space.
In the evening, Jiang He, Jiang Lan, Niu Ying and the others had not returned yet, so Mu Ruanruan took Jiang Xiaotao back again and planned to cook for him.
She went to the office and took out a backpack, which was the treasure box that Jiang He was curious about. With this backpack, it would not seem so abrupt when she took things out of the space.
"How about making you a fish?"
"Fish, then should we go to the river to catch them?"
She had forgotten about this. If she had known this earlier, she would have taken Jiang Xiaotao to the river to catch fish earlier so that they could eat fresh fish.
Now, it was late and it was too late to catch fish, so Mu Ruanruan took out a bag of dried fish.
He said, "Let's go get it tomorrow. Let's eat this today."
"Wow, dried fish! My uncle also caught this kind of dried fish before, but I only ate a little bit and sold the rest."
