Chapter 239 Nothing to blame

Liao Guoming left the village and found the bushes where he had hidden his things.

These were stuffed into his hands by his mother before she left, saying that it would be easier to get things done with them.

But he had inquired in advance and found out that Cheng Fangyi lived in his wife's family home. To put it bluntly, he was a son-in-law of the Su family.

Those who marry into the family are all incompetent, and he went there just to test the waters.

If Cheng Fangyi could agree to the pig's trotter issue and guarantee to provide him with it for a long time, he would definitely bring gifts to express his gratitude.

If he can't do it, he won't lose anything.

But fortunately, I didn’t give it to Cheng Fangyi, otherwise the money for buying the gift would have been wasted.

After hanging the gift on the front of his bike, Liao Guoming rode his bicycle towards the meat processing plant.

"What are you doing? Who are you? Don't you see where this is? Why are you rushing around like this?"

The gatekeeper stopped Liao Guoming's car.

"Uncle, I'm here to get some meat. Look, this is my ticket."

Liao Guoming hurriedly took out the ticket from his pocket.

The gatekeeper saw that he had an internal ticket to the meat processing plant and reluctantly let him in.

"Go left from the main gate and you'll see a small window painted red. Knock twice and someone will bring you something."

"Okay, thank you, sir."

When he arrived at the place the old man mentioned, Liao Guoming knocked on the window glass twice.

Soon a fat and big-eared lady poked her head out.

"Where's the ticket? What do you take it with?"

"Yes, ticket. I'm here to get the pig's trotters."

"Here, four dollars and a half."

The elder sister handed a pig's trotter out of the window and stretched out her hand, signaling Liao Guoming to give her money.

"Sister, can you round it off to a smaller amount? Four dollars will do."

The eldest sister quickly took back the pig's trotter in her hand.

"If you can't afford it, don't waste my time. Go away, go somewhere cooler."

The eldest sister drove Liao Guoming away impatiently.

"I'll buy it, big sister, I'll buy it, can I buy two more?"

"Hey, whose relative are you? Why are you so greedy? You should be happy that you can still buy meat at this time. I don't think you are sincere in buying it. Go away and don't delay my work."

"No, sister, I was wrong. I'm not good at talking and my words are not nice. Please don't bother with me. I want this pig's trotter. It's four dollars and fifty cents. Please count it."

Liao Guoming quickly tried to please him.

The elder sister took the money, spat into her hands, and began to count the scattered banknotes.

"I have enough money. Here are the pig's trotters. Take them and go."

After handing the pig's trotter to Liao Guoming, the elder sister slammed the window.

Liao Guoming rubbed his nose, which was almost pinched flat, and rode away quickly on his bike with the pig's trotter in his hand, secretly cursing the people in the meat processing plant for being unkind.

"Hey, Guoming, you're finally back. Did you buy some pig's trotters? Your sister-in-law is still waiting for them to produce milk."

When Liao's mother saw Liao Guoming, she excitedly came forward to greet him.

"I bought it. Give it to my sister-in-law."

The moment Liao's mother saw the big pig's trotter, her face almost broke out in laughter.

"Then I'll go back first."

As she spoke, Liao's mother carried a pig's trotter and walked into the room next to Liao Guoming.

"Xiao Lan, I've bought the pig's trotters. I'll go make some milk soup for you now."

Meihua, who was sitting in the house mending shoe soles, said nothing.

Liao Guoming called her several times but she didn't respond.

"Meihua, didn't you hear me calling you? Are you deaf?"

"Liao Guoming, how much is the pig's trotter? Did Big Brother give you the money? Or did you pay for it yourself?"

Meihua choked up a little while speaking, and all the sad memories of the past suddenly came to her mind.

She was an educated youth who went to the countryside, and by chance she met Liao Guoming, a worker in a textile factory.

Liao Guoming looked like a very honest man. Meihua felt that such a man was very reassuring, so she started dating Liao Guoming.

At the beginning, Liao Guoming disguised himself very well, putting her first in everything and agreeing to whatever she said.

Soon she fell...

Even though she would become a stepmother, she still married him.

But the reality is different from the ideal.

Meihua did not live the life she had imagined, where everything was provided for her. Instead, she had to do all kinds of work.

In the past, the educated youth only needed to wash their own clothes and take turns cooking.

Now she has to discipline his disobedient stepson for him. If he says a few harsh words to her, he will go around shouting that his stepmother is abusing the child.

Even though the Liao family had split up, Liao Guoming's elder brother and sister-in-law still brought Liao's mother to their house to ask for money.

She and Liao's mother had many arguments about this.

"We're all family, don't keep talking about money. It's so formal."

"Am I being so formal? Your eldest brother and his wife's family's food, drink, and toilet expenses weren't yours, and yet you haven't even said a word of thanks. You're always being so rude to me.

Now I am pregnant, and I have to work tirelessly every day to take care of your whole family. Liao Guoming, what kind of man are you?

"I'm the only worker in my family. My eldest brother and his wife make a living by pasting matchboxes. They barely have enough to eat. I have two nephews and three nieces. As a brother, it's understandable that I help out."

"That's what they deserve. They don't want to stay in the countryside, but have to come to town and act like city dwellers. They rent houses and buy food, and they have to work hard every day to dig wild vegetables outside the town. Pah, they are nothing."

"Plum blossom, don't go too far. Just complain a few words."

Liao Guoming put down his things and went back to the house.

Meihua no longer had the heart to sew shoe soles. She came to the straw shed with half a basket of yellow wild vegetables and began to prepare lunch.

There was not much food at home, and the Liao family only had two meals a day, lunch and dinner.
