Chapter 19: The Deer Runs Wild

Chapter 19: The Deer Runs Wild

Before Li Meng sent the letter, Zhao Xiaohua's letter arrived. Liu Shu met the postman at the entrance of the village. The postman was in a hurry to deliver another letter, so he asked Liu Shu to bring it back. The educated youth received letters from this postman, who was very familiar with them.

Li Meng opened the letter and found out that Li Juan and she were in the same county but in a different village. Because the educated youth before and after this batch all came here, the village where Li Juan lived was called Sanhe Village, which was not too far from Huanglong Village. There were about two villages in between, one in the east and the other in the west. Usually, as long as Li Juan didn't take the initiative to cause trouble, they would basically not run into each other.

Zhao Xiaohua also said that she and Li Juan's brother had broken up, and now she was dating a clerk in a factory according to her mother's advice. Li Juan's mother even brought her son to find Zhao Xiaohua, but was severely scolded by Zhao Xiaohua's three brothers and finally became obedient. They said that the Li family was in a mess now, with people going missing and in chaos all the time. Li Meng felt very relieved after hearing this, she thought it was what she deserved!

As night fell, listening to Wu Ruirui's even breathing, Li Meng flashed into the space. Dandan shouted directly, "Sister Li Meng, you are finally here. I have been waiting for you for a whole day." Her tone was just like that of a shy little girl.

"I'm here now. What good news are you waiting for me to come in so anxiously? If you have something, you can just call me with your mind. Why didn't I see you call me today?" Li Meng teased Dandan

"I have been taking good care of myself today. I can transform now. Hehe, what kind of animal do you like? I can transform into it. This way, I can appear by your side at any time and accompany you. Are you happy?" Dandan said cheerfully.

"Of course I'm happy. This way, if I have anything to do, you can just come and help me. How can I not be happy to have an extra little helper?" Li Meng was also very happy.

"Let me think of what kind of animal you can turn into so as not to arouse suspicion."

"Why don't you turn into a bird? That way, when I'm not around, you can fly on the roof and no one can hurt you. What do you think?" Li Meng thought for a while and said.

"Okay, then I'll turn into a starling. Hehe, I can fly high and see far. I like it."

After the two of them agreed, Li Meng went into the bathroom to take a shower and went to sleep. In modern times, Li Meng would occasionally suffer from insomnia, but when she came here, she would sleep until dawn. This is probably because there is not so much pollution now and the air is good.

In the early morning, the dew on the roadside grass was still clearly visible. They were about to go to work. When they arrived at the gathering place, Li Meng was assigned to herd sheep. She was responsible for driving the sheep to the hillside to graze and watching the sheep to prevent them from harming the crops. She had to herd them once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Then, when she got off work, she had to bring back two baskets of grass and put away the grass for the sheep before she could go home.

Pei Yu found it funny to see Li Meng grinning. Isn't this her ideal job? She can sit still without feeling tired and doesn't have to talk. After all, sheep won't understand even if you talk to them.

After the work was assigned, they started to work. Today, Zhou Hui and Pei Yu went to dig the ground, Wu Ruirui was still digging corn, and she was herding sheep.

There were only 7 sheep in total, all from the village. When the Chinese New Year came, 4 were handed over to the government, and only 3 were left for the villagers, young and old, to share so that they could taste the meat. So the team leader personally told Li Meng not to let the sheep run away, because losing one could mean a loss of life.

Li Meng carried a basket on her back and drove seven sheep to the hillside to graze. She originally thought that the sheep would run around and it would be difficult to drive them around. However, as long as she led the lead sheep, the other sheep would not run around and would follow the lead sheep obediently.

When we passed by the big banyan tree at the entrance of the village, Dazhu called out to us, "Sister Mengmeng, you are herding sheep today. Can I come with you?"

Li Meng waved to Dazhu and said with a smile, "Sure, if you want to come, let's go together." Dazhu is a sensible child, and Li Meng likes obedient children very much.

"Sister, sister, can we go too?" The children who played with Dazhu all expressed their desire to go together.

Li Meng thought for a moment, "Okay, then you have to promise to be obedient. Can you promise? If you can, then come along."

"We will be obedient," several children answered in unison.

This is how it happened. Li Meng led the sheep, followed by the six little kids, to the hillside. The sheep automatically dispersed to eat grass. Li Meng found a higher hillside to sit on, so that she could look down and see if the sheep were running around.

The little brats were all very excited to watch the sheep grazing at first, but now they were all listlessly sitting beside her, dozing off out of boredom.

"Children, I have something to discuss with you. I will give each of you a piece of peach cake, and you will help me fill the two baskets of grass. Is that okay?"

When the little carrot heads heard about this good thing, they all raised their hands to show their willingness. "How about this, you guys pack the grass first, and then I'll tell you a story. After work, you can follow me back and I'll share the peach cakes with you," Li Meng coaxed the little red riding hoods like a wolf grandmother.

In this way, the little ones went to pull weeds happily. Li Meng leaned against a big tree and basked in the sun leisurely, watching the little ones and the sheep busying themselves under her eyes. It was really comfortable.

Soon the two baskets were filled with the help of the six little kids. The little kids chattered and returned to sit beside Li Meng, waiting to listen to the story.

Today I will tell you a story about the boy who cried wolf. Once upon a time there was a shepherd boy...

"Children, this story tells us that we should never lie in anything we do, otherwise we will only get hurt in the end. You must remember this."

"We remember, we must not lie," the little kids answered loudly. The morning passed quickly. After sending the sheep back to the sheepfold, Li Meng separated from the other kids and went back to the Youth League House to prepare lunch for the day.

The four of us got home almost at the same time, and we couldn't eat meat every day. The lunch time was short and we had to rest. Li Meng planned to make some noodles with gravy for lunch, with two fried eggs for each person and some kimchi. She would make something delicious in the evening when she had more time.

Pei Yu fetched some water and brought it to the stove, where he saw Li Meng frying eggs. The hot air blew on the little girl's face, and it was a little hard to see clearly. The hazy smell of fireworks surrounded her, but it made him feel at ease.

Realizing there was someone around him, Li Meng put down the spatula, looked up and saw it was Pei Yu, and asked in surprise, "What's wrong? Is there something on my face?" As she said this, she touched her face with her hand. What she didn't expect was that her hand just touched the pot ash, and it turned into a big cat.

Pei Yu chuckled, his narrow eyes twinkling with stars. It was nothing just now, but it was hard to say now.

Seeing Pei Yu's smile, Li Meng's heart started beating wildly. Help! This man is starting to exude his charm again and seduce a pure and innocent little beauty like me. Li Meng pretended to be angry and stomped her feet, "You saw it and didn't help. You even laughed at me. Hurry up and give me a towel."

Pei Yu took the towel placed beside the stool and walked over to pick it up without thinking, whispering, "I'll help you wipe it off, you can't see it yourself," and then carefully helped Li Meng clean the ash on her face.

Li Meng's face became redder and redder. If Pei Yu's smile just now made Li Meng's heart flutter, now it felt like the deer had been killed and couldn't die any more.

Pei Yu then reacted. He covered his mouth and coughed lightly. "Okay, I've wiped it clean. Well, I'll go call them to eat," and then fled. Looking at Pei Yu's back as he ran away, Li Meng snorted proudly. "Hmph, men, they want to run away after flirting with you."
