Chapter 100 The Four Evils

When they sat down to eat, Jian Anping even turned on the air conditioner in the room.

The solar-powered generator can start working again. I don't know if this is a good thing or not.

"Eat quickly, and don't look out the window. I'm afraid you won't be able to eat later."

Jian Ning quickly gave them some instructions, then picked up her rice bowl and began to eat heartily.

"Why? Is there something I can't see outside the window?"

Jian Anping was quite puzzled. It would have been better if he hadn't been reminded, but now that Jian Ning had said that, he wanted to go out and see for himself.

Just as he was about to stand up, Li Mengyao pressed him back down.

"How old are you? Why are you the only one with such curiosity? Eat up, and then get on with your business." Jian Anping dared not disobey his wife. He quickly sat down and ate heartily.

This meal ended the fastest ever; no one was in the mood for conversation.

After finishing the meal,

Xiao Lingfeng led Aunt Wang and Tian Tian back inside. As soon as they opened the door, a stench rushed into the house. Startled, Jian Anping quickly closed the door.

"Why does it stink so bad outside? It's a hundred times worse than a cesspool."

"What do you think? When the ice melts, all the corpses and stuff underneath will float to the surface, and that's bound to smell like this. I'm going back too. You all stay home these next few days and don't open the door."

"You don't need to call me for meals, just contact me via walkie-talkie." Jian Ning sighed, quickly opened the door and went out.

Before even stepping outside, she had already shut down her sense of smell. She could imagine what it smelled like outside and didn't want to smell it again and experience it for herself.

Back in my room, I stood by the window and looked out. The scene seemed even more tragic than in my previous life.

By now, most of the ice outside had melted, and large chunks of ice were floating on the surface. Floating in the water were not only the corpses of various humans and animals.

A small number of survivors are still struggling.

These people are probably searching for supplies under the ice. Although the air outside is cold, the temperature under the ice is higher than on the surface.

Furthermore, by following the ice holes that have been extracted, you can walk all the way down to the ground. If you're lucky, you might even find some food.

However, the sudden rise in temperature caught many people searching for food under the ice off guard.

As the ice melted and moved, it compressed the ground, causing many people to suffocate and die on the spot.

Some of the luckier ones struggled to the surface, but it was almost impossible for them to swim to safety alive.

Because my thick cotton clothes were soaked with water, they felt incredibly heavy.

Their physical strength was simply insufficient to sustain the effort. Moreover, large chunks of ice were constantly crashing down on them, adding even more danger to their survival.

Jian Ning glanced at it, then turned and went back to her immortal abode. Human life was the least valuable thing now, and the arrival of the apocalypse made her realize this even more deeply.

Another night was spent cultivating, but Jian Ning did not go into seclusion this time.

Since things were just starting to heat up and everything outside was unknown, she was still worried about Jian Anping and the others.

I came out of the immortal abode before seven o'clock in the morning.

The room was now filled with a faint stench. No matter how well the room was sealed, some of the odor would still seep in through the cracks in the door.

Needless to say, the smell outside must be even worse.

He picked up the walkie-talkie and called Jian Anping: "Brother, how's things at home?"

"It's fine, nothing's wrong. It's just that the temperature is rising a bit too fast. It's still morning, and it's already 36 degrees Celsius. The weather is changing so strangely."

And don't open the door! It stinks even worse outside than yesterday. I've stuffed strips of cloth under the door to block all the cracks. Otherwise, it'll be unbearable to stay in this house.

"I know, be careful yourself." Jian Ning hung up the walkie-talkie and went back into her space to eat breakfast.

She didn't have much of an appetite; the scene outside made her feel nauseous. She only drank a glass of milk and ate a few biscuits before feeling full.

He then used a purification spell to remove all the odors from the room. He also sealed the cracks in the door. Only then did he sit on the kang (a heated brick bed) and take out his beginner's guide to array formations to study.

Huang Fugui placed it directly into the immortal abode and did not let it out.

Just then, a commotion arose outside. Jian Ning went to the window and looked out. Several speedboats had appeared on the water.

They were spraying medicine into the water, and the people on top were all wearing military uniforms.

The garrison troops have been mobilized, but this kind of medication probably won't solve much of the problem.

After all, water is flowing. And these creatures in the water, such as rats, cockroaches, and flies, almost completely recovered their vitality overnight.

There was no way around it; Jian Ning's eyesight was just too good. She could even see the maggots wriggling on those swollen, rotting corpses.

Not to mention the swarms of black flies. And the rats scurrying about in the water—these bodies of water are now their paradise.

Because of the spray, all the flying flies and mosquitoes flapped their wings and flew upwards.

Before long, a thick layer of black flying insects covered the outside of Jian Ning's window, which looked extremely disgusting.

Thankfully, she doesn't have trypophobia, but even looking at them makes her feel uncomfortable.

She simply drew the curtains, out of sight, out of mind. After all, with so many layers of glass, it was impossible for those bugs outside to get in.

Soon the assault boats all left this place and went to other places.

The outside had quieted down as well. However, the temperature inside the room was steadily rising. Although Jian Ning wasn't hot, the air felt stuffy. She decided to return to her immortal abode.

Even if there's electricity, I don't plan to use it. No matter how comfortable the houses outside are, they're nowhere near as spacious as this celestial abode. The spiritual energy is also much greater.

Furthermore, you can explore what's inside those unknown houses.

She's fine, but Jian Anping's family is in a real mess. Yesterday, when they were blocking the house, they didn't seal the chimney opening on the terrace properly.

In just a short while, a lot of flies, mosquitoes, and even winged cockroaches flew in from outside. Luckily, Aunt Li went upstairs to get some vegetables and discovered them.

I quickly sealed the gaps again, but catching all the insects that have gotten in will be a hassle. We don't have any insecticide at home.

The only thing we could do was close the door leading downstairs, and then the whole family would get together with all sorts of tools to get rid of them.

But mosquitoes are small, and once they hide, they're nowhere to be seen, making them really hard to catch.

"Anping, why don't you ask Xiaoning if she has any insecticide?"

This isn't a solution. We also need to be careful not to get bitten by mosquitoes; who knows how many viruses they carry.

Aunt Li swatted another fly with a piece of cardboard and said loudly to Jian Anping.
