Chapter 131 Picking Up Fish

The surging waves swept up the wrecked cars, rotting corpses, and all sorts of debris from the ground.

It kept crashing into the building. Thankfully, Jian Ning had just reinforced it, otherwise the building would have been in danger.

It took more than two hours for the tsunami to subside. Without the added force of the wind, the seawater quickly receded, and the rain outside lessened.

Jian Ning simply cast a spiritual energy shield on herself, stepped on Ruoshui, and flew out.

Although it was dark, her eyesight was excellent. She channeled her spiritual energy into her eyes, making them like Sun Wukong's fiery eyes. She could see clearly no matter how far away they were.

The entire city has now become a vast expanse of water.

The air was thick with the fishy smell of seawater. But the seawater came quickly and retreated just as fast; in just a short while, it had already receded to the eighth floor.

It's unclear how many people in Jianghai City survived the tsunami. Fortunately, the tsunami struck at night, when most people were resting at home and no one was on the streets.

Seawater flooded into the house. If it's a high floor, there should only be a small amount of water, so it shouldn't be too serious.

It's a different story for those living on lower floors. Jian Ning sighed, and just as she was about to go back, she saw someone standing on the balcony of the fifteenth floor.

Thankfully, she's invisible right now; otherwise, flying around like that would be quite a fright.

After taking a closer look, I realized it was Cao Xue and Zhang Xiaoqiang, who were having a heated discussion and seemed to disagree.

Zhang Xiaoqiang's face flushed with excitement. He kept gesturing and talking, but Cao Xue just kept shaking her head.

I don't know what the two of them were arguing about.

This has nothing to do with her. Jian Ning didn't look at it again, went straight back to her bedroom, took the tortoise shell out of the immortal abode, and put it back in Jian Anping's living room.

Then he opened the door and went inside.

The whole family was awake. They were all sitting on the sofa. Li Mengyao kept yawning because she was sleepy, but she was still trying to stay awake.

"How is it, Xiao Ning? The building outside hasn't collapsed, has it?"

As soon as Jian Ning came in, Aunt Li was the first to lose her composure. She was worried about the chickens, ducks, pigs, and rabbits she kept upstairs. If they all drowned in the sea, she would be devastated.

"It's alright, we can go out now. The water has receded, so they probably won't come back," Jian Ning said with a smile.

"Oh my, this is truly a blessing from heaven! Come on, let's go out now. Although it's nice in here, it's nothing compared to lying on the kang (heated brick bed)."

As Aunt Li spoke, she went over and helped Li Mengyao up. Dazhuang also came over to help, carefully assisting Li Mengyao out as if she were being supported by an empress dowager.

"Why is this never going to stop? Typhoons, earthquakes, tsunamis—when will these natural disasters end? They're leaving us ordinary people with no way to survive!"

Uncle Li followed behind, muttering to himself.

"Xiao Ning, did you go out and check? Is everything really alright?" Jian Anping was worried and wanted to go out and check as well.

"Don't you believe me? Go to sleep peacefully. My sister-in-law must have been frightened today. Go heat up some milk for her; it will help her sleep."

"Yeah, I know. You should get some rest too, it'll be dawn soon." Jian Anping said, yawning involuntarily.

People start to feel sleepy as soon as they relax. After being on edge the whole time, afraid that something might happen, they can finally get a good night's sleep.

Jian Ning didn't linger. Seeing them all return to their rooms, she simply passed through the wall and went back to her own bedroom. Today had been quite an ordeal, but she still couldn't rest; she had to continue cultivating, striving to reach the Golden Core stage as soon as possible.

When I came out of the immortal abode this morning, I saw that the sun was already high in the sky. The air was starting to feel muggy again.

Looking down from the window, wow, so many people! On the main road and inside the residential area, many people were carrying baskets, bags, basins, and buckets, catching fish in the water.

It seems that yesterday's tsunami not only brought seawater, but also left seafood in the water on the way when it receded.

So everyone still alive in the building rushed out to collect fish. Not just fish, but jellyfish, octopus, shrimp, crabs—you name it, there was it, and in huge quantities.

Everyone had been starving for so long, and their eyes lit up when they saw so much food.

Regardless of whether the fish is contaminated or not, it's still edible once cooked.

Just like salmon, there are also people who eat sashimi. They definitely have to cook the fish thoroughly before eating it, so there's no problem with that.

I don't know where they got their confidence, but the older generation has their own way of surviving.

"Xiao Ning, are you up yet? There are so many fish outside, I'll go pick some too?" Jian Anping's voice came through the walkie-talkie.

"Do I need your fish? You can't go out and pick some; who knows how many bacteria are in this fish meat. If you want to eat some, come over and get some later. I'll add extra crab and shrimp for you."

"Okay, I'll go over there now and say I found it outside. You don't know, if the building wasn't so high up, my father-in-law would have to go down and fish himself."

He's far more capable than me. My current feeling is that life is getting worse with each generation; everyone is so selfish.

"Alright, what's the point of saying all that? Hurry up and come over, I haven't eaten yet."

"I'll get you some steamed buns right away. They were just steamed this morning." Jian Anping hung up the walkie-talkie and ran over in less than five minutes.

Jian Ning opened the door for him and took the plate from his hand: "Those buckets are all for you. You can freeze the mackerel and ribbonfish and eat them slowly. You should cook the crabs and scallops quickly. Don't let my sister-in-law eat too many crabs. They're cold and not good for her health."

"Okay, so are the fish and shrimp down there really inedible? I've seen so many people going out to pick them up this morning."

Jian Anping was still not giving up. It wasn't just one or two people; you could see them from the sixteenth floor, carrying buckets and baskets of stuff home. They were getting it for free.

"Are you out of your mind? Haven't you heard that insects have mutated? Can you guarantee that this thing in the sea is completely safe? If you really eat it and something happens, what will my sister-in-law do?"

"Aren't these seafood enough to satisfy your cravings?" Jian Ning ate her steamed bun and glared at him.

"Oh, I know, I won't go, okay? It's not right to pass up a good deal. I've already taken them all. You'd better remember to bring the plates back to me later, or my mother-in-law will come looking for me again."

As Jian Anping spoke, he made two trips back and forth, carrying all four large buckets from the ground back home. These fish, if frozen and eaten sparingly, would last for a while.

Forget it, he stopped looking downstairs. Let them pick up as much as they want; it's none of his business. Out of sight, out of mind. He didn't want to make things difficult for himself.
