“Yes, what’s up?” Jian Ning walked back and picked up the walkie-talkie from the coffee table.
"It's nothing. Do you have a dog? I've been calling you on the walkie-talkie these past few days, and it's always the same dog answering. It keeps barking, and I was wondering if we were on the wrong channel."
"Yes, I found a dog downstairs, and since it looked pitiful, I took it home and raised it."
"What dog? I'll go check it out." Jian Anping hung up the walkie-talkie and ran over in less than two minutes. He entered the house and saw Dongfeng, and liked it very much.
"This dog is quite beautiful, but it's too hungry to be properly formed. Xiao Ning, please feed it well."
"It won't take more than a few days for the flesh to heal. It's all bandaged up like this, the injury must be pretty bad. Does it hurt?" As she spoke, she patted Dongfeng's head a few times, not minding its dirt at all.
I never expected that Jian Anping is a dog lover.
"Brother, if you like it, you can keep this dog. It'll be perfect for feeding your family leftovers. I don't eat regularly, and I'm worried about not being able to take good care of it."
"Really? Girl, you're willing to do that?" Jian Anping's eyes lit up immediately.
"Let's ask Aunt Li if you can take care of her," Jian Ning said. Jian Anping stood up and ran outside.
It seems he really likes this dog.
"Since my brother wants to take care of you, I'll help you out. Don't thank me too much."
As Jian Ning spoke, she took out a jade bottle from her storage bracelet.
He poured out a healing pill and handed it to it: "Eat this and your injuries will be completely healed, and your Thunderstorm Technique will also be greatly enhanced. From now on, you'll be following my brother, so you'll have to protect his family."
"Woof woof," Dongfeng barked twice in agreement, indicating that he understood.
Then it leaned over and ate the pill from Jian Ning's hand.
Jian Ning then opened the door, took out a mattress from her spatial storage, and placed it in the hallway near Jian Anping's house. She also gave him a large basin filled with cat litter.
"This is where you go to the toilet. Do you know how to use it?" Dongfeng nodded. It seems he wasn't a stray dog before; at the very least, he must have had an owner and a cat at home.
"My mother-in-law agreed, Xiaoning, why did you put it here? Aren't you going to let it in the house?"
Jian Anping pushed open the door of his house and came out. He immediately saw the mat in the hallway and Dongfeng wagging its tail at him.
"This dog carries a lot of bacteria. Your child is young, and your sister-in-law is still in her postpartum period, so their immunity is too low."
"Leaving it here won't stop you from feeding it. Once its wounds have healed, give it a bath, disinfect it, and it's more obedient, then you can let it inside."
"That's fine too, Xiao Ning, you're very thoughtful. Why is this dog named East Wind? Why not Hongzhong? It doesn't sound good."
"Then you can come up with a name, anything goes, I have no objection."
"How about we call him Overlord? It sounds so powerful!" As soon as Jian Anping finished speaking, Dongfeng barked and wagged its tail even more enthusiastically, clearly liking the name very much.
"Alright, from now on you'll be called Overlord. Keep a good watch over the house, and there will be a reward."
By the way, if you feel itchy in a little while, just bear with it; it should go away in a bit.
Jian Ning plans to remove the bandages from its body tomorrow and give it a bath. She will then hand over this task to Jian Anping, since he has nothing to do every day.
Just then, a loud boom resounded, and a thunderclap shook the entire building.
"Xiao Ning, the rain is suddenly so heavy, is another typhoon coming?" Jian Anping walked to the window and looked outside, somewhat worried.
"It's hard to say, the weather is so unpredictable." Jian Ning glanced out the window with some concern.
If this rain continues, it will be different from the last flood. Those monsters are much faster in the water than on land.
If another flood occurs, humanity's chances of survival will be even lower. These monsters pose an immense threat to humankind.
But whether it rains or not, whether there's a flood or not, isn't something she can control. The heavy rain lasted for three days straight. Xiao Lingfeng still hadn't returned.
The rain outside was pouring down relentlessly. And the wind was howling so hard that it was impossible to stand still outside.
Jian Ning has been cultivating diligently at home, and in the past few days, the monster has become increasingly rampant, and its growth rate has accelerated considerably.
She secretly went out to check that night, and found that the monsters had begun to spontaneously form groups to attack various residential areas.
Compared to other places like Jinmao Mansion, which has good security management and whose hallway doors are tightly closed, the situation is somewhat better.
The casualties weren't many, but the people in those older neighborhoods were in a terrible state. Unless you stayed indoors all the time, you were sure to die without a burial place, ending up inside the monster's belly.
Even at home, there's no guarantee you won't be attacked by monsters. As the water level rises, they can live both in the water and climb upstairs.
They used the pincers on their tentacles to smash open the window glass. As long as there was an entrance that they could crawl through, the people inside would have been spared—essentially five hundred million.
On the fifth day of the heavy rain, there were finally signs of it stopping. It was at this time that Xiao Lingfeng returned in the rain in a speedboat, along with Fu Mengfan.
He didn't even go home; he came to find Jian Ning first.
She was watching Huang Fugui train Ba Wang in the corridor, feeling utterly bored. Hearing hurried footsteps coming upstairs, she turned around.
Upon seeing a stranger approach, the Overlord immediately bared its teeth and assumed an attack stance, growling incessantly.
"Where did this dog come from?" Xiao Lingfeng stopped and asked.
