"I'll learn it, no matter how difficult it is, I'm not afraid!" Hearing Jian Ning agree, Cao Xue almost burst into tears, she was crying tears of joy.
In this apocalypse, only by having your own abilities can you avoid being bullied and gain the power to fight monsters. Cao Xue was extremely grateful that Jian Ning agreed to teach her.
The airship traveled on without encountering any danger, since the monsters in the water couldn't get into the ship and could only worry anxiously from the outside.
With nothing else to do, Jian Ning simply took out a small table, set up a chessboard with Uncle Li, and started playing Go.
Cao Xue watched the battle from the sidelines. She didn't really understand it either, but being close to Jian Ning made her feel particularly at ease.
Jian Anping was watching the spirit boat's movement closely; he was particularly interested in it.
In no time, he figured out how to control the airship. It's true what they say, men have a natural talent for mechanical things with steering wheels.
Just as I was getting into it, I suddenly noticed that the current was getting weaker and weaker. Was we about to reach land?
He quickly turned around and called out, "Xiao Ning, come and take a look! I feel like the terrain is starting to rise. Why is the water level decreasing?"
Jian Ning put down the chess piece in her hand, stood up, and looked around. Indeed, the terrain was starting to rise, and she estimated that the spirit boat would soon be unable to move on the water. She walked over and fiddled with the control panel for a bit.
"Brother, you stay here and keep watch. Once we get to land, twist this and we can switch from water to land-based flight mode. Once we're on the highway and there's no water, we'll drive off."
"Okay, this thing is pretty advanced. It's even amphibious."
Jian Anping was no longer worried. He just hoped that the land would arrive soon so he could switch to flight mode and experience it.
"I've made lunch, everyone come in and eat!" Aunt Li said as she opened the door to her tortoise-shell house.
They called for the people on the ship to go back.
"Mom, you eat first. I'll go back after I cross this waterway." Jian Anping didn't want to miss the chance to fly, and he wasn't very hungry at the moment.
"Aunt Li, I have my own food, so I won't bother you."
Cao Xue smiled sheepishly. She was fine with just riding the boat; how could she possibly ask for food too? She didn't have that kind of nerve.
“Aunt Li, we can eat on the boat. We won’t go inside. Cao Xue, don’t be shy, have some with us.” Jian Ning tidied up the small table where they played chess and went inside to help Aunt Li bring out lunch.
Steamed white flour buns, pork and bok choy stew with glass noodles. And some homemade pickled vegetables. Since they were on the road, Aunt Li didn't make anything too complicated.
Dazhuang also came over, grabbed a steamed bun, ladled out a bowl of soup, and sat down directly on the deck. This saved them the trouble; they didn't even need a stool.
"Cao Xue, come and eat quickly."
Jian Ning called her again before she finally came over reluctantly. Looking at the warm, bright green bok choy, she couldn't help but swallow. She hadn't eaten any green vegetables for over a year.
Although it was just the most ordinary home-cooked meal before the apocalypse, in her eyes it was comparable to any delicacy.
With trembling hands, she accepted the bowl of soup that Jian Ning handed her, not even noticing that it was too hot.
"Sit down and eat, won't it get hot if you hold it like this? There are plenty of steamed buns, Aunt Li is really good at making steamed buns, they are so chewy and delicious."
"Yes, daughter, make yourself at home, don't be shy."
Uncle Li also had a good impression of Cao Xue. She had helped Jian Ning deliver her baby. She was a skilled doctor, and it wouldn't hurt to be on good terms with her.
Cao Xue smiled, forcing back the tears in her eyes, and then obediently sat down to eat.
They were almost finished eating when the flying boat suddenly shook, and then its speed suddenly increased, almost throwing the people sitting on the deck off.
"Brother, did you twist it wrong?!" Jian Ning shouted as she quickly ran over.
After adjusting the speed of the flying boat, I looked out and saw that the spirit boat had already left the water and was about to crash into the toll booth barrier at the highway entrance.
They quickly pulled the airship up a bit more. They passed the tollbooth smoothly before finally stopping.
"Brother, you go eat first and rest for a bit. We'll switch to the car and drive."
"You have a car?" Jian Anping almost jumped up when he heard that. Although the flying boat was nice, it couldn't compare to the feeling of driving a car on the road. It was completely different.
"Yes, I estimate it will be another three hours' drive to the base. This airship is too conspicuous on land. We need to keep a low profile and not do anything too outrageous."
So I'll drive there in a bit. The road conditions seem alright. If you're careful, you should be able to avoid the cars on the road. If not, just ram them. Don't worry about the car getting damaged, just don't slow us down.
"Okay, whatever you say." Jian Anping washed his hands and started eating heartily from the bowl of food that had been set aside for him.
They ate with great relish, and in no time the large bowl of vegetables was empty. They also ate three steamed buns before they felt full.
After everyone had finished eating, Jian Ning put away the tortoise shell and handed it to Jian Anping. Then she had everyone disembark from the flying boat. After putting the flying boat away, she took out a brand-new seven-seater SUV from her spatial storage.
"Xiao Ning, this car is great! It's just the right size for all of us. Is there enough gas?" Jian Anping's eyes lit up when he saw the car. Even before the apocalypse, he had never driven such a nice car.
"Get in the car, we have enough gas, turn on the air conditioning, let's head straight to the base. Let's stay away from these monsters for now."
As Jian Ning spoke, she glanced back at the octopus monsters that were baring their fangs and claws as they tried to crawl out of the water. She then swiftly turned and swung her sword.
The powerful sword energy caused the water to ripple backward. Countless monster tentacles and heads were severed from their bodies by this sword strike, flying into the air before crashing back into the sea.
Jian Anping had already started the car. Once Jian Ning opened the door and got into the passenger seat, he floored the accelerator.
It darted off in a flash. Just as Jian Ning had predicted, there were only a few vehicles on the road.
Most of the cars were blown into the fields below the highway by the recent typhoon.
Jian Anping's driving skills are quite good; he occasionally drifts to avoid obstacles on the road.
Jian Ning sat in the back seat with her eyes closed, resting. In fact, she had already used her spiritual power to add a protective shield to the car, so that at least during high-speed driving, she could deal with any problems that arose immediately.
On the highway, there were practically no cars; it was so deserted that it felt like the entire world consisted of just their car.
