"We are warriors who stayed here to hunt these monsters. Comrade, don't be nervous, we mean no harm. May we take this monster's head with us?" the man who had spoken earlier asked.
"Sure, but I'd like to ask, do you know Xiao Lingfeng?"
"Or maybe Fu Mengfan? Do you know where they are?" Upon realizing that her guess was correct and that they were indeed from the military, Jian Ning lowered her defensive posture, straightened up, and asked.
"You know Xiao Lingfeng? He's in the hunting squad in the south."
"Dr. Fu is in his research lab and rarely comes out." The man standing in the middle asked, his voice hoarse, clearly a leader.
“Yes, I’m Xiao Lingfeng’s neighbor. Is he to the south? I’ll go find him.”
After Jian Ning finished speaking, she strode out.
Right now, she just wanted to see Xiao Lingfeng as soon as possible. As for what to do with the monster's head, Jian Ning didn't care. Once they found Xiao Lingfeng, everything would be clear.
"Comrade, be careful on the road. These monsters could come out at any time." They had just witnessed Jian Ning's skills and knew he was no ordinary person, but they still gave him a careful warning.
Jian Ning strode forward without looking back, only raising her hand to wave, indicating that she understood.
If she could control her sword in front of these people, she wouldn't have taken this slow, methodical approach. She held the Ruoshui sword lightly in her hand, seemingly without any regard for defense.
I had only walked about ten meters when suddenly two octopus monsters leaped out of the snow, attacking from both sides. Their waving pincers made a whistling sound as they slashed through the air.
Jian Ning didn't stop walking. With a flick of her wrist, the Ruoshui Sword was gently thrust out, as light as a swan and as fast as lightning.
None of the people behind her saw how the sword pierced the octopus monster's body.
But after Jian Ning walked over, she saw pieces of monster corpses falling to the ground with a thud, and two monster heads lying side by side.
"My goodness, what kind of kung fu is that? I've only ever seen that in TV dramas before!"
I never imagined that such powerful martial arts really existed in this world! It seems the martial arts novels I read before weren't just made up!
The soldiers behind her were so shocked they couldn't close their mouths. One of the younger soldiers couldn't help but say something.
He thought to himself that this must be the ancestral martial arts of a reclusive family, probably like the ones described in fantasy novels, where a top master who came down the mountain to train after knowing that the world was in calamity.
"Don't talk nonsense. Do your job and get the monster's head back first."
The man standing in the middle took a deep look in the direction Jian Ning had left. None of the monsters that blocked her path were a match for her; she killed them all instantly.
With so many monsters, their team could usually only kill about ten before their abilities were exhausted and the whole team had to rest. There was also the possibility of someone getting injured.
Unexpectedly, it was as fragile as a chick in her hands, dying at the slightest touch.
Thankfully, she's someone Xiao Lingfeng knows. With her joining Jiang City, this monster-hunting operation should progress much faster. Now, all they hope is that Xiao Lingfeng will keep her here.
With a wave of his hand, two people stood guard, while the rest of them filled bags with the octopus monster's head.
Jian Ning continued south along the main road, killing any octopus monsters that charged out on sight.
She knew these soldiers were picking up scraps behind her, but that didn't matter, since the heads of these monsters would eventually be handed over to Fu Mengfan for refining anyway.
If I kill more, I can get more powder from him later. I doubt Fu Mengfan can refuse, which will save me the trouble of picking it up myself. I'll let them do more work.
Because of his fast pace, it took him less than an hour to reach the south of the city. He must have killed at least two or three hundred monsters along the way.
Perhaps these monsters also have ways of communicating, knowing that she is powerful and should not be provoked.
In the final ten minutes or so, not a single monster appeared; it seemed they had all hidden themselves away, refusing to come out and give away their lives.
Jian Ning then put away the Ruoshui Sword, looked around to make sure no one was there and that the warriors behind her hadn't followed, used an invisibility talisman on herself, and stepped on the Ruoshui Sword to ascend into the sky.
Only by standing tall can one see far; the chances of encountering Xiao Lingfeng while wandering around like this are slim. Sure enough, his gaze fell upon a small team of five behind a house two streets away.
Just like the others, he was completely covered up from head to toe. But the leader was undoubtedly Xiao Lingfeng, because only he had obvious spiritual energy fluctuations.
A happy smile appeared on Jian Ning's lips.
With a whoosh, it flew towards their current location, and due to its high speed, a faint sonic boom was heard in the air.
Xiao Lingfeng was assigning combat tasks to a few people when he suddenly felt something and looked up at the street in the distance.
Almost instantly, he felt himself being tightly embraced by an invisible person. The warm body temperature and familiar scent stirred his heart.
One hand instinctively wrapped around the slender waist of the person in front of him.
Just as he was about to speak, a warm little hand covered his mouth. With a slight movement, he immediately understood Jian Ning's meaning. He nodded almost imperceptibly.
"Captain Xiao, shall we move out now?"
The man next to Xiao Lingfeng saw him suddenly stop and thought a monster was attacking. He looked around warily, but there was nothing there, so he asked.
"Wait a moment, I'm going to use the restroom over there. I'll be back in five minutes. You all rest where you are and stay alert." Xiao Lingfeng's voice was filled with barely suppressed laughter.
After quickly giving the instructions, he strode over to the other side of the building, circled around it, and, holding that soft little hand, flew directly to the rooftop.
"Jian Ning, why did you get here so quickly? I thought you wouldn't be able to come for a while!"
Seeing Jian Ning, dressed in all white and wearing a fluffy hat, suddenly appear beside him, Xiao Lingfeng was quite excited.
"You've given me such a big surprise, how could I not come and see? I've tried that powder, and it really does have a great effect on enhancing spiritual power."
So I've come to fight alongside you, to kill all these monsters in the sea. We'll take their heads and use them to make these medicinal powders. We'll improve our skills as quickly as possible.
Jian Ning smiled and looked into Xiao Lingfeng's eyes as she spoke earnestly. She didn't pull her hand away from Xiao Lingfeng's large hand; it was unclear whether she had forgotten or was doing it on purpose.
"Thank you. I'm so glad you received the letter I brought you, right? How are my mom and Tian Tian doing?"
