Chapter 20 Uncle's Family

Li Mengyao's words were full of beautiful expectations for the future. Preparing for her wedding little by little must be the happiest thing, right?

"I'm not in a hurry. Where's my brother? Did he go out again?" Jian Ning looked around the room but didn't see Jian Anping.

"Yes, you've come at the perfect time. Anping got a call saying your uncle's family is coming, and he's gone to pick them up. We'll go out to eat in a bit."

“Uncle?” Jian Ning immediately retrieved information about her uncle’s family from her memory.

Recalling the names of these people from her memory, Jian Ning's eyes reddened. This whole family was utterly despicable. In her previous life, Jian Ning had suffered immensely alone in the apocalypse.

Because the apartment building she was renting was flooded during the heavy rain, she had no choice but to go to the government relief station with her neighbors.

However, after living there for a while, when the extremely cold weather arrived, the relief station was unable to provide heating on a large scale, so they had to encourage everyone to seek refuge with relatives and friends who were able to.

It was around that time that Jian Ning was sent to her uncle Jian Ming's house.

He lives on the thirteenth floor of a three-bedroom, one-living-room apartment.

With a family of four living there, there was simply no extra space. After Jian Ning arrived, she could only sleep on the sofa in the living room because Jian Xueqing said she had trouble sleeping and couldn't share a room with anyone else.

During that time, Jian Ning lived by the whims of her aunt and sister every day, eagerly taking on all the household chores and even handing over all her money and food.

However, on a snowy day, he was kicked out by his aunt and Jian Xueqing.

You should know that the extreme cold weather can reach temperatures of minus sixty degrees Celsius.

No matter how much she begged, Jian Xueqing wouldn't open the door. She was even laughing happily behind the door, saying that if she left, there would be one less person to feed, and since there wasn't much food left in the house, there was no need to support an outsider like her.

Left with no other choice, Jian Ning huddled against the wind and snow and made her way to the shelter. It was on that occasion that, because she was dressed in thin clothing, her right leg became numb from the cold.

I almost had my leg amputated. Although I managed to save it, I suffer from excruciating pain and itching every day.

The pain was bearable, but the itching was truly maddening! This ailment plagued her for seven or eight years. When the itching became unbearable, she felt like she might as well just die.

Even now, the excruciating pain seems to be right before my eyes.

"Ningning, are you feeling unwell?" Li Mengyao was startled when she saw Jian Ning suddenly clench her teeth, her eyes filled with hatred. She quickly nudged her and asked with concern.

"Sister-in-law, I'm not going to eat. And please don't let my uncle and his family come here to look at the house. I don't like that family." After saying that, Jian Ning turned around and walked out. She needed to go back to her own home to calm down.

"Okay, I got it. I'll bring you some food later. You can't cook yourself!" Li Mengyao called out after Jian Ning, and then she slammed the door shut with a bang.

He immediately realized that Jian Ning's dislike for his uncle's family was more than just ordinary. He quickly picked up the phone and called Jian Anping.

"Honey, you've missed me already after such a short time?" As soon as the phone rang, Jian Anping answered with a cheerful voice.

"Where are you now? Have you picked up your uncle's family?" Li Mengyao was worried that since everyone was still in the car, it would be difficult for her to talk to them.

"Not yet, I just got to my uncle's building and called them to come down. What's wrong?" Jian Anping noticed that Li Mengyao's tone was a little stiff.

"Ningning just came back. As soon as I mentioned that you went to pick up your uncle's family for dinner, her expression changed."

She said she wasn't going and even told me not to let them come to the house. Anping, why do you think Ningning dislikes them so much?

"How would I know? I didn't usually have much contact with my uncle's family, ever since my dad passed away."

I haven't been in touch with them for two or three years. If it weren't for our wedding this time, which required the presence of elders, I wouldn't even have thought of them.

Jian Anping was completely confused by Li Mengyao's words. He was a rather rough-around-the-edges person and had never paid much attention to the relationships between relatives.

"Let's not talk about this now. Take the person directly to the restaurant. Don't come to the house."

If my uncles smell it later, just say that this place isn't ready yet and we'll come back to check on it later.

I'll take a taxi to the restaurant now and wait for you. Remember, when you ask about Ningning, tell her she went out and hasn't come back yet.

"Okay, I understand. I'm already outside the community gate. Go there now, I'll be at the restaurant in twenty minutes," Jian Anping said, and hung up the phone.

Li Mengyao also told Aunt Wang, tidied up the unfinished quilt, saw them out, changed her clothes, and hurriedly went to the restaurant.

Jian Ning returned home, still in a bad mood. Although the original owner's consciousness had dissipated, some remnants remained in her body, such as the anger and resentment she felt. This made her very uncomfortable.

In fact, Jian Ning also felt that her uncle's family's actions were a bit excessive. If you don't like having an extra burden on your family, you can refuse to take them in from the beginning.

They were actually relatives, yet they took the original owner's money and food rations and then kicked her out. They really did something inhumane. No wonder the original owner was so angry.

If this happened to her, she'd grab her sword and go straight back, kicking them all out of their homes and letting them experience what it's like to freeze in the freezing cold. What good is anger? She needs to take action.
