Chapter 255 Foodie

The pig-headed demon shopkeeper looked troubled; it seemed he didn't want to help.

"Oh? Is that so? Would you like to think about it again?"

As Jian Ning spoke, she waved her hand, and suddenly a roasted duck, its skin golden and crispy, appeared on the table. The aroma filled the air as soon as it was taken out.

The pig-headed demon sniffed twice. His small eyes were fixed on the roast duck on the table, and saliva was gushing down his face—to exaggerate a bit, it was like a small waterfall.

"M-Master, Master, what is this? It smells so good!" The pig-headed demon stammered, wiping away the drool that had spilled from his mouth.

"Oh, this is roast duck. I marinated it with my secret seasoning and then roasted it."

If you can help me figure out a way to get out of the ceremony, I can give you this roast duck as a reward. Would you like to try a duck leg first?

As Jian Ning spoke, she took out a small knife, cut off a duck leg, and tossed it to him.

The pig-headed demon couldn't bring himself to refuse, and he didn't even have time to reach out and catch it.

With a wide gulp, the duck leg flew straight into his mouth. He chewed it twice and swallowed it without even spitting out the bone.

He had never tasted such a delicious flavor in his hundreds of years of life; it was so fragrant that his tongue almost fell off. With tears welling up in his eyes, he suddenly sat down on the ground, buried his head in his hands, and wailed loudly.

This startled Jian Ning.

Is this pig mentally unstable? It makes me wonder if the person I chose this time is a bit unreliable.

He stood up, took two steps forward, and then stopped.

He frowned and asked, "Why are you crying? Is this duck leg not to your liking?"

"No, sir, no, I just regret swallowing it too quickly and not having properly savored the taste of the duck leg."

"How could I be so greedy, sir? I have a way to get you to the ceremony without an invitation. Could you give me the whole duck?"

The pig-headed demon rubbed his eyes twice, finally stopping his crying, and stared longingly at the roast duck on the table, asking...

"If you can get me in, the duck is yours, but words are no proof, how can I believe you?"

Jian Ning didn't believe in the character of these demons. They wouldn't act until they saw the benefit, and she didn't believe that the pig-headed demons could resist such a delicious roast duck.

"My lord, this is my seal. I just need to write you a letter, and you can take this to the City Lord's Mansion to find the Thirteenth Madam. She will definitely find a way to let you attend the ceremony. I am absolutely not lying. You must believe me."

The pig-headed demon was practically smitten by the aroma of roast duck. Forget about just sending her a letter to attend the ceremony; he'd probably be willing to die without a second thought.

He's the type who can forget everything when it comes to food.

"Okay, start writing now."

Jian Ning had some doubts about whether he could write, but to her surprise, he really could. Although what he wrote was all scribbles, it wasn't a problem as long as his sister could understand it.

After watching the pig-headed demon finish writing the letter, he carefully stamped it with his seal. He then picked up the paper, blew on the still-wet ink, and respectfully handed it to Jian Ning with both hands.

"My lord, please keep this safe. The city lord's mansion is just ahead on this road, then turn right at the intersection and you'll see it."

The pig-headed demon would think of anything for food, but he was afraid that if he did something that displeased the adults, they wouldn't give him such a delicious roast duck.

"Okay, thank you for your hard work." Jian Ning took the letter and put it into the jade pendant space. She glanced at the pig-headed demon whose eyes kept glancing at the table and chuckled.

"Go and eat, this roast duck is a treat for you!"

"Thank you, sir, thank you, sir." The pig-headed demon pounced over, carefully picked up the roast duck from the table, closed his eyes, and savored the aroma from head to tail.

Jian Ning felt ashamed to look at herself; how could she be so greedy? She strode downstairs; she needed to go to the City Lord's Mansion first, lest she be denied entry that day.

I haven't been out for five days, and I never expected that so many people would suddenly appear in Demon Abyss City. Some came in sedan chairs, some rode magical beasts, and some carried large swords on foot.

It was a motley collection, looking like all the animals in a zoo had gathered together for a meeting.

Jian Ning attracted a lot of attention as soon as she appeared, mainly because she was so beautiful. Among these bull-headed, horse-faced animals, she stood out like a crane among chickens.

As she strolled forward, people on the road spontaneously made way for her.

There's no need to ask; this young and beautiful woman is definitely a high-ranking demon.

Don't let her harmless appearance fool you. If you offend her, you'll be in deep trouble, and might even lose your life. Who would dare to go looking for trouble? It's best to stay far away.

Because all these demons share this mentality, Jian Ning's journey was truly unimpeded.

After turning the corner, we arrived at the entrance of the city lord's mansion. We could see many guests arriving, each greeted by a dedicated person who checked their invitations and then escorted them into the mansion.

Jian Ning walked directly up to a demon with bull horns and a full beard: "I wish to see the Thirteenth Madam. May I ask if I may inform her?"

"Who are you to the Thirteenth Madam? What brings you here?" the Bull-Horned Demon asked gruffly.

"Oh, I was sent by the Thirteenth Madam's brother. Just tell him the truth."

Jian Ning initially wanted to say that she was related to the Pig-Headed Demon's family, but then she realized that wasn't right, since her current appearance was that of a fox.

It has nothing to do with pigs, so it's best to keep a low profile and not let anyone see through it.

"Alright, wait here for a while." The horned demon went into the mansion by himself and came out after a long time, followed by a chubby little girl with a fat head and big ears. She glanced at Jian Ning.

"So you want to see my wife? Come with me."

Jian Ning quickly followed, carefully observing the little girl beside her, wondering what race she was. She didn't see any tail or anything, could she be human? Impossible.

"What are you looking at with those shifty eyes? Don't think I can't see you. Once you're inside the manor, behave yourself and don't look around, or the guards will throw you out."

"Okay, I understand."

Jian Ning agreed verbally without taking it seriously, and looked around the city lord's mansion. It was predominantly black and dark red, with some areas featuring gold window frames; the architecture was extremely luxurious.

Judging from this, the city lord is no good either; he must be a corrupt official.

We followed the little girl until we reached a rather secluded courtyard.

"My mistress is inside. Be careful what you say when you go in," the maidservant added.

He pushed open the courtyard gate and led Jian Ning inside.
