Chapter 268 Love Letters

“Your uncle is right, we need to study hard,” Jian Ning said, then paused. Talking about serving the country and going to university now seemed too abstract.

Children are struggling to survive in this apocalyptic world; how can they possibly be in the mood to study? And who knows if they'll even be able to go to university in the future?

"I know, Sister Ning. Are you leaving again this time? I'm so bored at home. It's raining outside, and I can't go out to play in the yard." Tian Tian said, looking at Jian Ning expectantly.

In her heart, Sister Ning was her best playmate.

"Not necessarily. I might have to go see your uncle in a few days. But I did bring you a little friend this time. You'll be able to see him tomorrow."

Jian Ning thought of Huang Fugui, who could transform into human form, and he could play with Tian Tian and help her take care of the house.

"Really? It'll be tomorrow? With such heavy rain, isn't he afraid of getting soaked?" Sweetie smiled happily when she heard that she would soon have a new playmate, but then asked worriedly.

"It's okay, he has something to keep out of the rain. You can make him a craft at home as a welcome gift, like drawing a cute little kitten or something. He'll definitely like it."

"Okay, Sister Ning, I'll go draw right now." Sweetie happily ran to her bedroom.

"Xiao Ning, you are so patient, you are better at coaxing children than I am. Tian Tian is such a sensible girl, but she is also really lonely. She lives with this old woman every day and has lost all the vitality of a child."

Aunt Wang sighed from the side.

"There's nothing we can do about it, but it's good to have a playmate. I brought a boy back, and he plays with Tiantian here during the day."

"Let him go home by himself tonight. I just got back, and the house isn't tidied up yet, so I'll head back now, Auntie." Jian Ning said, standing up to leave.

"Xiao Ning, wait a minute, Ling Feng left you a letter. I was so busy talking to you that I forgot." As she spoke, Aunt Wang went back into the house to get a homemade envelope and handed it to her.

"Thank you, Auntie." Jian Ning was a little curious about what Xiao Lingfeng would write for her, so she took her umbrella and went home.

Aunt Li was sitting in the living room at the moment. As soon as she saw Jian Ning come in, she quickly ran over.

"Xiao Ning, you're finally back! We've been so worried about you while you were away, especially your brother. He's lost several pounds from missing you so much."

"Really? Then I'll have to bring out some good food to nourish him. Aunt Li, I have something to do, I'll go upstairs first, and I'll bring out some vegetables later. We'll have something nice to eat tonight."

"Okay, I'll go steam the rice first." Aunt Li smiled and went to the kitchen. Jian Ning had just returned...

It feels like the family suddenly has a pillar of support. Even the air we breathe feels much more comfortable. Even rainy days lift my spirits.

Jian Ning returned to her bedroom and first used a cleaning spell to tidy up the room. There wasn't much dust, which showed that someone cleaned it regularly.

Then she sat on the bed and opened the letter Xiao Lingfeng had left for her.

The opening line was: "Jian Ning, I like you! Or rather, it may be a bit presumptuous of me to say this, but I really don't want to hide my feelings anymore."

Upon seeing this very first sentence, Jian Ning's face flushed red. This kid, how could he not play by the rules?

I thought he had something important to tell me, but I never expected him to leave me a love letter!

Having lived two lifetimes, this was truly the first time she had ever received a love letter. Although Xiao Lingfeng wasn't by her side, she couldn't stop her heart from pounding rapidly.

"Jian Ning, have some self-respect! You're an old monster who's lived for so many years!"

"This love letter has left you completely bewildered?" He silently scolded himself, calmed himself down, and then began to read it seriously.

I am so grateful to God for allowing me to meet you in this apocalypse. You are so unique and deeply attract me, just like the sun in the sky, warming my hard and cold heart.

I had given up hope of the end of the world, but since you came into my life, I have truly realized the meaning of my existence, which is to rush towards you without hesitation.

Where you are, there is hope in this world. And that's where my life has meaning.

I'm not exaggerating; this is my deepest feeling. Therefore, I want to stay by your side forever, through countless lifetimes, never to leave you. I wonder if I'm worthy of that?

Seeing this, Jian Ning couldn't help but laugh. She usually speaks very seriously, but when it comes to writing love letters, she expresses herself quite well.

It seems Xiao Lingfeng isn't completely oblivious. He does know right from wrong. She's happy to have a place for herself in his heart.

Actually, if Xiao Lingfeng hadn't written that love letter, Jian Ning wouldn't have wanted to waste any more time with him, even though cultivators have very long lifespans.

But no one knows what the future holds; long lifespan doesn't guarantee immortality. If demons also exist in this world...

That would have been a much bigger disaster. The chances of an ordinary person surviving were almost zero.

"Xiao Ning, you're back? Why didn't you give me any warning? Let me see if you've lost weight?"

Jian Anping's loud voice came up from downstairs, interrupting her thoughts.

"Brother, I'm fine. But you, how come you've lost so much weight?" Jian Ning put the letter in her hand into her storage bracelet. Just as she stood up, Jian Anping barged in.

"I'm just tired. I can eat and sleep well, so don't worry about me. But you, why did it take you so long to come back?"

There are more and more monsters outside, you know? I can't sleep at night because I'm so worried about you.

Jian Anping walked over, put his arm around Jian Ning's shoulder, and carefully looked her up and down.

Seeing that her complexion was rosy and she looked no different from before, and that she didn't seem to have been injured, I felt relieved.

"Brother, please have a seat. You've been cultivating well lately, almost at the ninth level of Qi Refining!"

Jian Ning could tell his skill level at a glance. Although he had become more muscular, his skills had not diminished.

"That's right, I've been practicing diligently every day. Although I'm a bit slow, hard work can make up for it, right? You're not leaving again this time, are you?"

"You should stay home for a while. The weather is so unpredictable; you never know when those flash floods and tsunamis might come again. Having you home will give you advice in case anything happens."
