Chapter 33 Delivering the Knife

"Ouch, my back is so sore, I can't even move. Old Li, could you give me a massage? I'll feel better."

Aunt Li woke up at this moment, and felt uncomfortable sleeping face down on the lifeboat.

Seeing that nothing was wrong with the house, Li Mengyao and Jian Ning breathed a sigh of relief. They helped the old lady up and told her to go back to her room to rest.

No one was in the mood to cook; they all crowded around the window to look outside.

"Stop looking. Our building is fine for now, but that building across the street is leaning and probably won't be long before it collapses." Jian Anping sighed. In the face of natural disasters, humanity seems so insignificant.

"It's good that you're alright. I'll go back and change my clothes, then sleep a little longer. You don't need to worry about me while I eat." Jian Ning remembered that she hadn't removed the talisman from the stairwell outside.

Before Jian Anping could speak, he ran out and took down all the yellow papers pasted in the stairwell.

According to the original owner's memories, things will calm down for a while after this flash flood, so there's no need to worry about the house for the time being.

I had just put away the talismans when I heard a creaking sound coming from the stairs, a sound that made my teeth ache.

I walked down halfway down the stairs and looked down, and I was so angry I laughed. There was a bunch of people crammed into the stairwell on the 15th floor, and two men were using hand saws to saw through locks.

She was unwilling to give up without coming forward. Jian Ning reached into her spatial storage and pulled out a large cleaver.

He took out his keys, opened the door, and went downstairs.

With a stern face, the tip of the knife pointed directly at the two men holding the saw blade: "Stop! Keep going if you don't want to die!"

"Girl, who are you trying to scare with that broken knife? Is it even sharpened? Why did you block the way to the roof? We all live in this building, we're all owners, and we have the right to go up to the roof."

The middle-aged man with tattooed arms, holding a saw blade, glared fiercely at Jian Ning and roared loudly.

"Why should I? Because the knife in my hand disagrees. Don't say I didn't warn you, if you dare to step onto the sixteenth floor, I'll make you regret it."

Jian Ning casually tossed the heavy broadsword in her hand up and down twice. The fierce look in her eyes was anything but a joke.

"Daughter, our families have all been flooded. The stairwells downstairs are packed with people right now."

Some residents wouldn't let us stay in their homes either.

"Please, have mercy and let us stay on the sixteenth floor. We promise we won't bother you," an elderly woman with gray hair and curly hair pleaded.

"Old man, do you even believe what you're saying? Is it possible that you won't bother us? Once I open these doors, I don't even know if I'll still have my own home anymore."

"Let me tell you, these security doors are electrified. If you try to force your way in and get electrocuted, I won't be responsible."

"Little girl, who are you trying to fool? The whole city is without power, how can your security door still have electricity? Do you think we're all so easy to fool, are we idiots?"

"We don't have to go up, but you have to give us some food and drinks. Otherwise, we'll take turns using this saw to cut the door open; eventually, we'll be able to." The tattooed man sneered and threatened.

"Yes, we haven't eaten for two days. Please have pity on us, young lady."

"Any bread, biscuits, or steamed buns will do." The people crammed into the stairwell chattered incessantly, some even reaching their hands through the gate, pleading incessantly.

"Go back, I'll handle things here." Xiao Lingfeng suddenly appeared from behind Jian Ning.

Does this person walk without making a sound? Even Jian Ning's intuition couldn't detect it.

However, since he stepped forward, Jian Ning immediately took two steps back and put away the knife in her hand.

Leaning casually against the stair railing, he watched Xiao Lingfeng stride down the stairs and stand directly in front of the railing. Without saying a word, a flash of silver light appeared, followed by a shrill scream from the tattooed man.

Jian Ning immediately stood up straight. She hadn't expected this person to be so decisive. He attacked without saying a word? Impressive, truly impressive!

"This is just to teach you a lesson. Remember, the sixteenth floor isn't a place you can just climb whenever you want. If anyone disobeys and insists on trying, that's fine too. This is just a small warning to you."

The icy voice sounded like it contained ice shards, and the sweltering air seemed to drop several degrees in an instant.

The people surrounding the tattooed man, clutching his severed finger and wailing in pain, and the small pool of bright red blood on the ground with the severed finger inside, dared not utter a word.

In peacetime, when have you ever seen such a barbaric person? They came up and cut off someone's finger so quickly that you didn't even see what they used. They must be skilled in martial arts; we can't afford to mess with them.

Some of the more timid ones had already quietly run downstairs. They dared not stay here any longer.

The floodwaters outside are terrifying, but they'll eventually recede. At least for now, we're not in any real danger. Looking at that guy upstairs, he might actually try to kill someone. We'd better stay far away.

Some people tried to call the police, but all network communication was down, so they couldn't make a call. They had no choice but to quietly retreat.

In less than two minutes, everyone had vanished, including the man with the tattooed arm. As he left, he gave Xiao Lingfeng a venomous glare. It seemed this feud was now firmly established.

"Did I scare you?" Xiao Lingfeng watched as everyone walked away, then went over to look at the lock. There was only a faint mark, which didn't affect its use. He turned back and asked Jian Ning softly.

"It's okay, I'm not that cowardly." It was just a small section of a finger that was broken off, which was no big deal to Jian Ning.

Having cultivated immortality for so many years, she had witnessed countless bloody scenes, not to mention the countless people who had died at her hands. Her heart had long since hardened to the point of being as hard as iron.

"If this happens again, don't come out by yourself. Call me or your brother." Xiao Lingfeng looked at Jian Ning carefully and, seeing that she really wasn't scared, he felt relieved.

Then his gaze swept over the large machete she was carrying. It must have weighed over twenty pounds, and it was clearly made of high-quality steel.

I have no idea where she got it from. Surprisingly, she's quite strong; she didn't seem to struggle at all while carrying it.

Seeing him examining the knife in her hand, Jian Ning handed it to him directly: "Here, you can use this. I have another one at home."

Seeing that Xiao Lingfeng didn't seem inclined to take it, he quickly added, "Yes, I do. I've bought quite a few of these kinds of cold weapons. I have a hobby of collecting these things. You can keep them for self-defense."

Xiao Lingfeng gave her a deep look without saying a word, but he took the large cleaver Jian Ning handed him, weighed it in his hand, and smiled slightly: "Thank you."
