When Xiao Lingfeng changed his clothes and came downstairs, Jian Ning had already set the dining table.
Aunt Wang and Tian Tian were already sitting at the table waiting for him.
"What kind of dish is this? You're not going to tell me you made it yourself, are you?" Xiao Lingfeng walked over, sat down, and asked with a smile.
"Of course not. You know my cooking skills aren't that great. This was made by a chef hired by a friend of mine, and it used all sorts of rare and delicious ingredients. It's the first time I've ever eaten anything like it. I brought some for you to try."
"This dish is called 'Farewell My Concubine,' isn't it particularly meaningful? This is chicken, and this is turtle." Jian Ning showed off the dish names she had just learned.
"Auntie, what is a turtle? Have I ever seen one?" Sweetie blinked her big eyes and asked curiously.
"A turtle is a tortoise, that thing with a turtle shell. How can it taste good?" Aunt Wang had lived most of her life but had never eaten such strange things. Looking at the dishes on the table, she didn't dare to touch her chopsticks.
"Mom, you're right. This dish is very nutritious. You should try it. It definitely tastes different from what we usually make at home."
Jian Ning wasn't hungry at the moment, so she rested her chin on her hand and watched the three of them go from cautiously tasting the food at the beginning to not being able to stop eating. She smiled very happily.
"Auntie, it's so delicious, even better than Grandma's!" Sweetie only knows how to tell the truth.
Aunt Wang's home-style dishes are alright, but when it comes to taste, they can't compare to the dishes made by chefs whose skills have been passed down through generations.
"Xiao Ning, are you home?" Jian Anping knocked on the door from outside.
Jian Ning went over, opened the door, and let him in.
"Brother, have you eaten yet? I happen to have some good food here."
"I've already eaten! What was so delicious? This tastes pretty good!"
Jian Anping was so taken aback by her question that she forgot why she had come. Following the aroma, she walked over and couldn't help but swallow as she looked at the dishes on the table.
"Brother, sit down and have a taste. Xiao Ning said it was made by her friend, and it's really delicious." Xiao Lingfeng went to the kitchen to get a set of bowls and chopsticks, and also served him a bowl of rice.
Even if we're full now, there's still plenty of room for us.
Jian Anping didn't stand on ceremony. He took the bowl and chopsticks, sat down, and started eating. As he ate, he couldn't help but comment.
"Is this crab meat soup? Oh my, it's delicious! Who made this? Even the chef at Hung Fook Lou can't compare!"
"Brother, eat slowly, don't choke. If you like it, I'll send a portion to your family tomorrow so your wife can try it too." Jian Ning wasn't stingy; it was just a small amount of food, she could just buy two more portions tomorrow.
The Gu family's restaurant is located inside the Immortal Abode, so they can't escape.
"Thank you in advance, Xiao Ning. You're really capable. You managed to find such delicious food. We're so lucky to have you here."
Although Jian Anping liked it, she didn't eat much. She only tasted two or three bites of each dish, drank the rice soaked in soup, and stopped, patting her stomach contentedly.
She remarked, "I ate two meals tonight, and now I feel quite full. It's been so long since I've eaten this much."
"It's not just about being full, it's about the delicious food. Even emperors of the past might not have been able to enjoy such a feast."
"Brother, what brings you here?" Jian Ning asked as she saw him put down his chopsticks.
"We sent Jian back, and I also gave my uncle's family some dried vegetables and stuff. Xiao Ning, do you think Jian's injury might be anything serious? Should we send him some more medicine?"
Although Jian Jian told Jian Ming that everything was fine, he still felt uneasy and came over specifically to ask.
"It's alright now, the poison has been neutralized. The wound will just hurt for a couple of days and then it will heal on its own. You're a big young man, your healing ability is excellent. In three to five days, you'll be bouncing around again."
"That's good. When I came back just now, I heard from a friend that our base is planning to grow rice, so the local people will be able to eat rice. I'll go dig the ground with them tomorrow. Is Ling Feng's story true?"
Jian Anping was quite concerned about this matter. If rice could really be planted, a good harvest would benefit everyone.
"Brother, it's true. We've already had a meeting to discuss it, and Xiao Ning provided excellent rice seeds."
Once the basics are in place, planting can begin. The most important thing is that there's no lack of water. Therefore, the location hasn't been decided yet.
We've already found three locations; we're just waiting for final confirmation before construction can begin.
"I'm just a roughneck, all I need to do is work. As for the brain work, you guys will have to do more of it."
"I'm not going to say anything more, I'm going back to give the two kids a bath. If I stay out too long, your sister-in-law will start nagging me again." Jian Anping said, standing up and walking out.
Jian Ning followed him out to see him off.
"Brother, take it easy with your work, don't just use brute force. Tomorrow I'll see if I can get a couple of suitable machines, so we don't have to dig the holes by hand, it's too much work."
"Although the temperature has risen, the ground here is really frozen solid. There are probably not many people as strong as your brother in the base."
Gene warriors may have the ability, but they're people who do big things, not ordinary folks digging and pulling shovels together.
“Who gave them these privileges? They can’t just forget their roots after they’ve got some skills. I need to talk to Ling Feng about this.”
Jian Ning escorted Jian Anping all the way to the courtyard wall, watched him walk over, closed the small gate, and went back into the house to find Xiao Lingfeng.
"My brother said we're digging tomorrow, and I'll get two excavators for us to use. But is there anyone here who knows how to operate them?"
Jian Ning felt that manpower could never be as fast as machines, and besides, she didn't lack oil.
However, operating an excavator requires expertise; you can't just find anyone who knows how to drive and let them operate it haphazardly.
"There should be enough. If there really isn't anyone else, I'll go up and drive it myself and take on two apprentices. It's not difficult at all, and they're very easy to learn."
Xiao Lingfeng wasn't worried. There were plenty of capable people in the military, and maybe even some civilians who had operated excavators. He could just ask around.
"My husband is amazing! There's nothing you can't do!" Jian Ning praised him first.
Then he asked, "Ling Feng, I just heard my brother say that they value gene warriors quite highly here, and they don't let them take action easily. Isn't that a bad thing?"
"Wife, what do you mean?"
Xiao Lingfeng didn't immediately understand what Jian Ning meant by those words.
"My point is simple: everyone is the same; no one is superior to anyone else. If you have some skills, don't forget your roots; don't get arrogant."
I think those of you in charge need to keep a closer eye on them; everyone's mind is different. They can't get too arrogant.
"Xiao Ning, you're right, but we can't just listen to one side of the story and wrong our soldiers. It's easy to discourage them."
