"I'm not going over there. Did you just come from Jinmao Mansion? That building is sturdy and of good quality. We're going to Jinmao Mansion."
The woman who had just been pushed away by Jian Ning wiped away her tears and, without mentioning the search for her child, shouted loudly.
"Yes, comrade, can't you take us to Jinmao Mansion? I saw it when we were at home; you brought back a lot of supplies by boat. There's no shortage of food there."
"We're all compatriots, you can't just stand by and watch us die!" The middle-aged man sitting at the very back echoed.
Jian Ning felt a surge of annoyance; she was definitely not suited to be a good person!
"We're here. Get off." The voice was cold and devoid of any warmth.
Her meaning was clear: if you don't obey and go down to that rooftop, then you'd all be rolling into the water and staying there.
The young woman who was rescued last was very shrewd and perceptive. She thanked Jian Ning and, pulling her mother along, was the first to jump onto the exposed rooftop terrace.
It's not entirely without shelter here; there's a small, separate room right next to the entrance to the stairs, but I don't know what it's for.
However, staying temporarily is definitely not a problem.
The others followed suit and jumped up one after another.
"Old Liu, help me up, I can't get up here!"
The middle-aged woman was the last one. She could clearly sense that Jian Ning was not someone to be trifled with. After dawdling for a while, she had no choice but to be reluctantly dragged up to the roof by her neighbor.
At this moment, Xiao Lingfeng also paddled over in a kayak, and he had rescued five or six people on his boat as well.
"Your brother went into the water. I tried to persuade him, but he wouldn't listen. The situation underwater is quite complicated now, and I'm afraid something might happen to him."
Jian Ning frowned upon hearing his words. Couldn't he just stay a good hooligan and scoundrel? Why was he suddenly acting like a hero who saved people?
"I'll go down and take a look too. Be careful."
After speaking, he drove the speedboat to the spot where the kayaks were moored on the water in the distance and looked down into the water.
The floodwaters were even muddier than before, and no one knew where Jian Anping got the courage to jump in.
But since he was her family, she couldn't let anything happen to him, so she cast a water-repelling spell and jumped into the water as well.
The collapse of this entire building has had a significant impact on the area, which was only apparent after the floodwaters receded. The collapsed structure is completely shattered, with the reinforced concrete exposed.
With the water so deep, the chances of the remaining people surviving are extremely slim.
After searching along the building for a while, apart from a few corpses, there was no trace of Jian Anping.
This person is really a handful.
A huge fish swam over, wagging its tail, and opened its mouth towards Jian Ning, revealing its fine teeth, as if it wanted to take a bite.
Jian Ning nimbly dodged it, grabbed its tail, and flipped herself onto it. This fish was quite large, over a meter long.
The large fish struggled fiercely, increasing its swimming speed, trying to shake the person off it. But to no avail. The large fish was swimming much faster than Jian Ning could move in the water.
She rode on top of it, searching around, and soon found Jian Anping holding someone in his hand, struggling to swim upwards, but it was obvious that he was running out of strength.
After all, he wasn't wearing a diving suit, and the pressure of carrying someone underwater is considerable.
Jian Ning twisted the fish head with her hand, found the right direction, and rushed over, arriving at Jian Anping's side almost instantly.
He grabbed his arm. Taking a deep breath, he levitated, rising to the surface along with the large fish. With a slight effort, he tossed both of them onto his speedboat.
Then it flew up along with the big fish.
"Xiao Ning, are you riding a fish? How can it listen to you?" Jian Anping lay sprawled on the boat, panting heavily.
The boy next to her lay motionless, his eyes filled with tears. At first, Jian Ning thought the child had drowned, but now that she saw he was alright, she guessed he was just terrified.
"You're really something, my pet! Do you think you're some kind of superhero? Jumping into such deep water without a diving suit?" Jian Ning was furious at Jian Anping's disheveled appearance.
“This is Dazhuang, my brother’s son. He just asked me for help. How could I, a grown man, not go down and save him?” Jian Anping stiffened his neck, not feeling that he had done anything wrong.
He turned to look at the boy next to him, who was only about half a teenager, and asked, "Where's your dad? Is he in the building too?"
"No, Uncle Jian, my dad and mom went to my grandma's house and haven't come back for days. I can't get through to them on their phones either. I've been home all by myself."
"It's alright, were you scared? Come home with Uncle Jian in a bit, I'll give you something to eat, you won't go hungry!" Jian Anping said before turning back to look at Jian Ning, his eyes full of pleading.
"Let's go back," Jian Ning said without giving a direct answer. She could afford to feed another person, and Jian Anping was a very loyal and devoted man; he certainly wouldn't agree to abandon the child.
Just then, Xiao Lingfeng returned in his kayak. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Jian Anping was already on the boat.
"Are you alright? I was too far away from you just now, I couldn't save anyone in time. I could only go find Jian Ning first," Xiao Lingfeng explained.
"Brother, thank you. I was a bit impulsive at the time, but I don't regret it."
"Dazhuang, this is your Uncle Xiao, and this is your Aunt Jian. We'll take care of you from now on and try our best to find your father as soon as possible."
"Thank you, Uncle Jian," Da Zhuang said, having regained some strength, as he sat up and greeted the two men. Jian Ning tied the empty kayak to the inflatable boat and sailed back to Jinmao Mansion.
There were no more struggling figures on the surface of the water; most of them were probably left at the bottom to feed the fish.
There's nothing we can do about it; she's not a god, and she doesn't have the power to save everyone.
Dazhuang was about fourteen or fifteen years old, a very energetic young man. After he got home, took a shower, and changed into the same clothes as Jian Anping, he looked quite pleasing to the eye.
Aunt Li is a very kind-hearted old lady. Knowing that the child was rescued from the collapsed building, she quickly made two egg and carrot pancakes for him.
"Child, eat it while it's hot. Have you been hungry for a while? Look at your complexion, you don't look well."
"Thank you, Grandma," Dazhuang said, tears welling up in his eyes as he looked at the red and yellow, fragrant egg pancakes on the plate in front of him.
Actually, he hadn't been starving all these days; he had plenty of snacks at home, including two boxes of instant noodles.
But he has only one child and doesn't know how to cook. He used to order takeout, but when the typhoon hit, all takeout was suspended, so he had to make do with whatever he could at home.
He didn't even store any water. A child like him doesn't have that kind of mindset; after the water was cut off, he survived on Coke and Sprite. He hasn't had a proper meal in days.
