Chapter 8 Lottery

“Okay,” Jian Ning agreed and followed him into the house to sit down. The house that Jian Anping rented was much bigger than hers, and the decoration was basically the same.

The only difference is that Jian Anping actually turned the attic into a home theater and a gym. The gym equipment inside is truly complete; it's like she suddenly has money and doesn't know what to do with it!

However, these things might come in handy in the apocalypse; at least the dumbbell and barbell are heavy enough. They could even be used to smash people in danger.

Before Jian Ning had even finished looking around the house, the man called Er Gouzi rushed over in a hurry.

"Brother Jian, I'm busy right now, what's the job?" he asked loudly as soon as he entered the room.

“My sister says she wants to add two more security doors to her room. Do you think it’s possible to install them?” Jian Anping gestured to the house next door.

"Isn't this door sturdy enough?" Er Gouzi asked doubtfully, touching the built-in security door inside the house. It was a double door with a combination lock. "Isn't the quality pretty good?"

“I’m thinking of adding a few more security doors outside the main door, preferably made of brass, as they are sturdy and soundproof,” Jian Ning said as she came out of the house.

"That's fine, but these pure copper doors are expensive and quite heavy."

"I know all that. You just need to do it. Install it in my brother's room as well, and give me a discount."

Er Gouzi didn't say anything more; the customer is always right. He wouldn't mind if they had the money to make a solid gold door and put it outside. He took the measuring tape and followed Jian Ning back to her room to measure the door's dimensions.

The windows also need to be fitted with two layers of bulletproof and blast-proof glass from the inside; this will have to be custom-made. They said they'd come to install them in three days.

Jian Ning still had a lot of things to do, but after finishing this, she said goodbye to Jian Anping, took the elevator downstairs, and left.

"Brother Jian, don't take offense at what I'm saying, but does your girl have some kind of paranoia? What's she planning to do with this house being so sturdy?"

The security in this neighborhood is good enough. Is she worried someone might climb in through the window? This is the sixteenth floor!

Watching Jian Ning's slender figure enter the elevator, Er Gouzi couldn't help but say a few words.

"You're making money, why worry about so much? I heard from my sister that there's going to be extreme weather soon, I guess she's just preparing for that. You should buy more food and water for the family, just in case."

Jian Anping frowned, but still chose to believe Jian Ning's words. Regardless of whether the information was accurate or not, the things he bought wouldn't break, so he might as well take precautions.

"Really? Is the news reliable?" Er Gouzi was a little skeptical. In this peaceful and prosperous world, what kind of extreme weather could there be?

"It's reliable. It's said to have come from the National Meteorological Administration. Anyway, my sister is pretty reliable in her words and deeds."

"I've told you, whether you listen or not is up to you." Jian Anping said, yawning. He had gotten up early this morning and wasn't fully awake yet.

"Brother Jian, thanks for reminding me. I'll measure the dimensions of this room too, and make it just like your sister's room, okay?" Er Gouzi asked, already measuring with a ruler in his hand.

Jian Anping didn't say anything. "Let it be," she thought. "If something really happens, at least we'll have some protection, right? At most, it'll just be a little more troublesome coming and going."

If he doesn't like it, he can just tear it down again. Anyway, this guy's got plenty of money now; he has several million in savings and feels like a tycoon. He's so rich and powerful, even his breathing exudes arrogance!

After seeing Er Gouzi off, Jian Anping went back and went straight to sleep.

After leaving Jinmao Mansion, Jian Ning used her phone's navigation to find that the nearest lottery station was more than ten minutes away by car, and even slower on foot.

She simply hailed a taxi. After getting out of the car, she first used the lucky charm with a 60% success rate on herself.

Upon entering the lottery station, I headed straight for the instant lottery tickets.

"Boss, how much is this?"

"These instant lottery tickets cost 20 yuan each, and the highest prize for a single ticket is 2 million yuan. Want to try your luck with a few bets?"

"Can I just pick any one?" Jian Ning had never bought this before.

"Yes, take whatever you like from these!" The shopkeeper took out all the lottery tickets for Jian Ning to choose from. She blew on her right hand, didn't look closely, and grabbed a handful by feel, estimating there were about thirty or forty tickets.

"That's all. Are there any lottery tickets with high prize money?" He handed the lottery tickets to the shopkeeper, asking him to count them. Then he asked.

"Of course, it's the Super Lotto. The top prize is five million. If you want to win more, you can increase your bet. You can use the quick pick option, or you can choose your own numbers."

"Then I'll just randomly select five numbers and bet 2000 times." I don't know if my lucky charm will increase my chances of winning. I'll give it a try, and if it doesn't work, I'll go back and draw more.

"Okay, I'll print your ticket right away." The lottery shop owner walked back to the lottery machine with a smile and started operating it.

"I randomly selected five tickets, and I'm betting 2000 times the stake. Girl, if you win the jackpot, you'll be rich!"

Although the boss said that, he secretly thought this girl was obsessed with money. If she could win the lottery, pigs would fly, and he'd be living in a tree himself!

He handed all the lottery tickets in his hand to Jian Ning, then picked up the calculator and started typing away.

There are 43 instant-opening tickets, totaling 860 yuan.

This lottery ticket costs two yuan per bet. Your ticket has five bets, totaling ten yuan. Two thousand times that is twenty thousand yuan. Will you pay in cash or by scanning a QR code?

"Boss, I'll pay for this instant scratch first, maybe I'll win something," Jian Ning said, scanning the QR code with her phone to pay the shopkeeper 860 yuan, and then started scratching.

She didn't win anything on the first ticket, and she still didn't win anything on the second ticket, even though the boss was encouraging her.

"Don't worry, you might win on the next one. The winning rate for this instant lottery is quite high."

"Thank you for your kind words, I also think I should win the lottery."

Jian Ning looked up at the shop owner and smiled slightly. Then she scratched off the third card in her hand and saw that she had won! Two hundred and fifty thousand! All the money she spent today had come back.

"Wow, young lady, you're really lucky!" The boss was happy for her. 250,000 yuan! That's enough for an average family to earn five or six years' worth of wages.

"I also think I'm lucky. Can you help me redeem this prize?"

"I can't exchange this here, you have to go to the lottery center. This amount is too large, I can exchange anything under 10,000 yuan here, young lady, keep scratching and see if there are any more prizes?"

The lottery shop owner was thrilled; his shop hadn't had a prize of over 50,000 yuan in a while, and maybe today would bring a surprise. The girl looked very lucky; she seemed destined for good fortune.

Jian Ning smiled and then started scratching. She won prizes every one or two scratches, with amounts of one thousand, twenty thousand, and three thousand. The amounts weren't very large, but they added up to forty or fifty thousand.
