Chapter 68: Let them be together forever

Lin Songhao was still young and had never seen such a scene before. He was afraid that his sister would be taken away, so he turned pale and his lips trembled involuntarily.

He stammered, "I... so many things happened on our trip today... it was all so terrible."

Seeing Lin Songhao's uneasy appearance, Zhao Canchen also felt a little uncomfortable.

He sighed helplessly and said, "Yes, almost everything that happened today was because of me. Nothing's going right. We should go out less in the future, then we won't run into these kinds of things."

Listening to their conversation, Lin Yajun smiled slightly, revealing an indifferent expression, and said, "What's there to be afraid of? We'll deal with whatever comes our way, we'll just meet each challenge as it comes."

As if remembering something, she suddenly said, "'We don't provoke trouble, but we're not afraid of trouble either.'"

Lin Yajun was somewhat surprised when she uttered those words; it was the most domineering sentence she had brought from the modern world. Unexpectedly, it came out so naturally at this moment.

Upon hearing Lin Yajun's words, Zhao Canchen couldn't help but look at her with newfound respect. He gazed at her with admiration, smiled, and nodded, saying, "Xiaojun, you're absolutely right!"

"Let's go back quickly, or we'll be in big trouble if someone tries to assassinate Young Master Zhao again." Lin Songhao was very nervous. He pulled Zhao Canchen's sleeve and walked back. Lin Yajun followed closely behind, holding a poison needle in her left hand and an electric baton in her right hand, vigilantly protecting Zhao Canchen as they walked home.

In a pitch-black little house, not a single ray of light could penetrate the endless darkness. Yet, from within this darkness, a voice suddenly rang out.

"Master, Prince Hu is bullying him again today. Do you think we should just kill that Hu fellow?" a deep voice asked cautiously.

"Hmph, kill him then." A hoarse voice replied coldly, as if the decision was easy for him.

"Yes, Master," the deep voice replied, then continued, "There's one more thing, Master. Just now, in front of the Prince Consort's casino in the East Market, a man suddenly rushed out, holding a gleaming dagger in his hand. It seems he wanted to assassinate him."

"I was already preparing to make my move, but who knew that the man suddenly collapsed to the ground dead as if all his strength had been drained away. I went over to check and found that the man was actually a guard from the Prince of Lu's mansion, and his death was extremely gruesome. His face was black and his whole body was purple, as if he had been poisoned by some kind of deadly poison."

"Oh?" The hoarse voice seemed intrigued and pressed on, "Then who exactly did it?"

"Well... I'm not quite sure either." The deep voice hesitated for a moment, then said, "However, I heard Young Master Lin say that his sister's acupressure skills are quite formidable."

"Oh?" The hoarse voice sounded again, this time with a hint of surprise. "That girl actually has such skills?"

"Yes, Master, she is very discreet." The deep voice quickly echoed, "Miss Lin is also very kind-hearted and always protects him."

She also said, "We don't go looking for trouble, but we're not afraid of trouble either."

"Haha, good, good indeed." The hoarse voice suddenly burst into laughter, "Excellent!"

"Go and reward that girl with a bag of jewels," the hoarse voice said after a moment's thought.

"Yes, Master." The man in black accepted the order and quickly disappeared into the darkness.

After the man in black left, the hoarse voice seemed to fall into deep thought, muttering to itself, "That girl is skilled in martial arts, kind-hearted, and fearless. If I could stay by her side and protect her for the rest of my life, I could die in peace."

"I need to accelerate our plans and actions so that they can be together forever!"

Sunlight streamed onto the gate of the Lin residence as Lin Yajun and her younger brother accompanied Zhao Canchen into the courtyard.

Lin Yajun called out joyfully, "Mom, we're back!" Her voice was clear and loud.

Upon hearing her daughter's cries, Madam Xu hurriedly came out of the east wing.

She was holding an unfinished needlework piece in her hand, and looked somewhat hurried.

When Madam Xu saw Zhao Canchen return safely, a joyful smile appeared on her face. "Young Master Zhao, please sit down and rest for a while."

“Okay, Auntie,” Zhao Canchen replied politely, and sat down on a chair in the corridor.

When Ms. Xu saw the large bags and packages her daughter was carrying, the smile that had been on her face vanished instantly, as if blown away by a cold wind. In its place, her face was filled with surprise and reproach.

"Ah Jun, why did you buy so many expensive things?" Madam Xu's voice was slightly raised, revealing her dissatisfaction. "A shopkeeper just delivered several overcoats. How much did that cost!"

Lin Yajun sensed the reproach in her mother's tone and quickly explained, "Mother, I bought these especially for you and the family. Don't worry, the money will be earned back, you have to believe me."

Madam Xu looked at her daughter and sighed helplessly, "Oh, you child, you're just too extravagant. Our family is going through the most difficult time right now, and we still owe Young Master Zhao such a large sum of money."

Lin Yajun knew her mother's worries, and she comforted her, "Mother, I know what you're worried about. But I will definitely make good use of the money that Young Master Zhao lent us and make it generate more money. Besides, I bought these things to thank Young Master Zhao for his help."

Hearing her daughter's words, Madam Xu felt a little more at ease, but she still couldn't help nagging: "You, you've already sold the tiger's skin before even fighting it, and you've already bought so many things without even starting a business. Four or five thousand taels of silver is no small sum. If the shop you bought doesn't do well, how will our family ever be able to pay it back?"

Lin Yajun smiled and said, "Mother, don't worry. I will run the shop with all my heart and I will definitely not let you down."

Seeing her daughter's confidence, Mrs. Xu didn't dare to continue scolding her. She just sighed silently, her heart filled with worry about the huge debt.

Lin Yajun happily presented the carefully selected gift to Madam Xu and said softly, "Mother, our family has bought a jewelry shop. I specially picked out a set of silver jewelry for you in the shop. Please take a look and see if you like it."

Upon seeing this, Madam Xu quickly waved her hand and declined, saying, "Oh dear, Jun'er, this is too precious. I can't accept it. You should take it and sell it for money."
