Chapter 15 Guiding Zhao Canchen

Zhao Canchen's heart was filled with helplessness and resentment. Ever since he was born, he had been living a miserable life, suffering not only himself but also those around him.

To raise him to adulthood, Prince Song's uncle sacrificed his own fiefdom, suffering neglect at court and isolation from the royal family. Ultimately, Prince Song's uncle became depressed, fell seriously ill, and had to retire to a separate residence.

Before leaving, Prince Song entrusted Zhao Canchen to General Lin, who was capable of protecting him.

This action resulted in General Lin being dismissed from his post, his career being thwarted, and it also affected the marriage of Miss Lin. Several branches of the Lin family also severed ties with General Lin.

This filled Zhao Canchen with sadness and self-blame.

He couldn't help but murmur, "Just because I was born into the wrong family, do I have to endure this suffering for over a decade? Am I destined to suffer like this until the end of my life?"

Lin Yajun keenly sensed his sadness. She waved her hand gently and said in a cheerful tone, "Hey, although we can't control fate, we can completely decide what we do and what we eat every day. More importantly, we can control whether we feel good or bad every day!"

She treated Zhao Canchen as a friend, offering him patient guidance and kind advice. After all, they were now bound together; if anything happened to Zhao Canchen, none of the Lin family members would survive, and they would die a horrible death.

She continued earnestly, "You know what? In the end, all we do in life is try to do is fill our stomachs and survive. Humans are not much different from cats and dogs: we just eat, drink, poop, sleep, rest, and keep living. As for all those other so-called material possessions, they are just for satisfying our desires and vanity."

Lin Yajun paused, giving Zhao Canchen some time to process what she had just said. If Zhao Canchen didn't want to hear it, then she couldn't continue. She understood a principle: the worst thing one can do is to act as someone else's teacher, as it easily provokes resentment.

Zhao Canchen lowered his head, listening quietly to her words. No one had ever advised him so earnestly before. Others dared not say a word to him, for fear of getting into trouble. The Prince of Song and the Princess cared about his life but never mentioned his background or offered him any advice.

Lin Yajun popped a black bean into her mouth and savored it. Seeing that he was listening attentively and didn't seem to mind her lecture, she continued, "Although we can't control the trajectory of our lives, we can make the most of what we can do each day, live each day to the fullest, and then string each day like pearls into a beautiful necklace. As long as we live each day with our hearts, these days will be like pearls, strung together into a brand new, beautiful life that belongs to us."

Lin Yajun's words were like a bolt of lightning piercing the night sky, instantly illuminating the dark corner of Zhao Canchen's heart. This lightning not only brought light but also made him begin to re-examine his life.

Zhao Canchen always believed that his life was full of suffering, but when he reconsidered, he found that this was not the case.

Although he had no social status and was kept in confinement within the capital, he at least had no worries about food and clothing. Compared to those poor people who lived in poverty and lacked proper clothing, he was already considered lucky.

It turns out that his previous so-called "suffering" was nothing more than a self-pitying mentality. If he could have changed his perspective on life and adopted a "what will be, will be" attitude, he could have lived a relaxed and happy life every day.

Lin Yajun's words completely changed Zhao Canchen's originally pessimistic mindset, making him realize that life is not so bad after all, and that as long as he is willing to change his way of looking at problems, everything will be different.

Zhao Canchen's mood instantly lightened, as if the heavy burden on his heart had vanished without a trace.

He raised his head, a bright smile spreading across his face, a smile as warm and radiant as the spring sunshine.

Lin Yajun was stunned by his smile, and she thought to herself, "He's an 80 out of 100 handsome guy! If he were just a little more muscular, he'd be a 90 out of 100!"

Lin Daoyan and his wife were both shocked when they heard what their daughter said.

They looked at each other, but upon reflection, it seemed to be true.

Influenced by Lin Yajun's words, the couple's worries about the future lessened considerably, and they decided to stop thinking about distant things and instead focus on living each day to the fullest.

For a moment, the room fell silent, with only the sound of chewing candy.

At first, they weren't used to the taste of the candy, but they gradually got used to its unique bittersweet flavor.

Surprisingly, after eating the candy, they felt much happier, as if the little candy was not just ordinary food, but a magic pill that could make them forget their troubles.

Zhao Canchen looked thoughtfully at the candies in his hand. After thinking for a while, he carefully put a few of them into his small pouch, patted the pouch, and said softly, "I'll eat them later."

Seeing this, Lin Yajun smiled slightly and replied softly, "Okay, I'll give you some after you finish eating."

Lin Songhao, without any hesitation, put all the candies into his mouth and chewed them vigorously.

After he finished eating, he said to his sister with lingering desire, "Sister, give me some more candy later."

Lin Yajun smiled and nodded, while reminding her younger brother, "Remember to rinse your mouth after you finish eating, otherwise the candy will easily cause cavities, and you'll suffer from toothaches."

Lin Songhao quickly nodded and replied, "Okay, okay, I'll go rinse my mouth in a bit."

Lin Daoyan suddenly recalled the events that had happened before, and he hurriedly asked, "A-Jun, if it really was Shen who poisoned your grandfather and grandmother, are you really planning to report her to the authorities and even dig up your grandfather and grandmother's graves to open the coffins and examine the bodies to find out the truth?" His brows furrowed tightly, and his face was full of worry.

Although the hatred of killing one's father and mother is irreconcilable, and revenge is indeed warranted.

However, things like digging up graves are really inappropriate. Not only will they disturb the souls of the dead, but they will also be criticized by the world.

Without uncovering the truth, we cannot seek justice for our parents, which is unfilial.

However, actually digging up a grave is also a great disrespect to the deceased and an act of filial impiety.

Lin Daoyan became increasingly conflicted as he thought about it, unsure of what to do.
