Chapter 62 Buying the Shop at a Bargain Price

Lin Yajun knew very well that selling weapons was an extremely dangerous business when Zhao Canchen was in their family; a slight misstep could bring annihilation to the whole family.

Lin Songhao blinked his big, dark eyes, looking completely bewildered, and asked, "Um? Sister, what exactly is this 'um' you're talking about?"

Looking at her younger brother's innocent expression, Lin Yajun shook her head helplessly and said softly, "Don't ask anymore. In short, this is absolutely not going to happen."

Lin Songhao pursed his lips in disappointment, but after a while, he said enthusiastically, "Then let's sell brown sugar beans! They're delicious, and we're sure to get a good price for them!"

Lin Yajun shook her head again, saying worriedly, "Selling food isn't safe either. What if someone poisons it and then frames us?" Having gone through so much, she has become extremely cautious and doesn't dare to take any possible risks.

“Selling food does indeed carry certain risks and is not very safe.” Zhao Canchen nodded in deep agreement, finding Lin Yajun’s point of view very reasonable.

After a moment's thought, Zhao Canchen offered his suggestion: "In that case, why not consider selling fabrics or jewelry?" He believed that these two commodities were relatively stable and had a large market demand.

After listening, Lin Yajun pondered for a moment and then said, "Hmm, then let's sell jewelry." She already had some ideas in mind; she could use her spatial advantage to create some exquisite silk flowers and silver jewelry to sell. These pieces of jewelry would not only be novel in design but also of superior quality, and would surely be very popular.

“Even if this stuff doesn’t sell, there’s no need to worry about it spoiling,” Lin Yajun added, expressing her confidence in her choice.

Zhao Canchen fully agreed with Lin Yajun's decision, thinking that selling jewelry was a good idea.

After deciding on the products they wanted to sell, the three began searching the streets for a suitable shop, hoping to find a well-located storefront with reasonable rent so they could better conduct their business.

The three strolled along the eastern street, and after walking past only a few shops, they saw a large shop with a wooden sign hanging high above the door, on which was written in bold letters: Prime shop for sale at low prices.

Lin Yajun took a closer look and was overjoyed. She clapped her hands and laughed, "What a coincidence! This shop is actually a jewelry shop. We can open for business right away after taking it over!"

Zhao Canchen was puzzled: How could there be such a coincidence? They had just said they wanted to buy a jewelry shop, and now a jewelry shop was up for sale?

However, despite his doubts, he was still very happy to have found a shop so easily.

He hurriedly said, "Then let's go in and take a look, and ask the shop how much they want to sell it for."

The three of them quickly entered the shop and saw a man inside asking the shopkeeper, "How much are you selling this shop for?"

The shopkeeper looked at the three people who had entered and whispered a number to the man.

The man shook his head. "Too expensive." He said as he left, "I knew this prime location would be extremely expensive."

Lin Yajun stood inside the shop and looked around. The shop wasn't very large, but it was decorated quite exquisitely. A screen separated the shop into two spaces, one in the front and one in the back.

The shopkeeper greeted them with a broad smile, bowed to the three men, and asked, "Miss, gentlemen, welcome to our shop! What would you like to buy?"

Lin Yajun smiled and replied, "Let's just look around first."

She looked around, carefully examining the shop. Against the wall were several display cases, filled with all sorts of gold and silver jewelry, a dazzling array that was almost overwhelming.

Upon closer inspection of the craftsmanship and quality of the jewelry, Lin Yajun discovered that it wasn't of a very high grade. This suited her perfectly, because given their current status, it was inappropriate for them to sell overly expensive jewelry; being too ostentatious would likely attract unnecessary trouble and misfortune.

Lin Yajun decided to buy the shop and turned to ask, "Shopkeeper, are you selling this shop?"

"We're reselling it, Miss," the shopkeeper hurriedly replied. "Our family is planning to return to our hometown of Fengyang, so we'd like to sell this shop along with all the goods inside. If you can buy the shop and the goods together, the price will be more favorable."

"Oh?" Lin Yajun asked with slight curiosity, "How much would it cost to buy just the shop?"

“If you only buy the shop, one thousand taels of silver will be enough, Miss,” the shopkeeper quickly replied. “But if you buy the goods as well, it will cost three thousand taels of silver in total. You see, these goods are all worth more than two thousand taels of silver!”

Upon hearing this, Lin Yajun thought to herself: This shop is actually priced at a thousand taels of silver, but her uncle only sold her mother's shop for fifty taels of silver. Isn't he suffering a huge loss?

Thinking of this, she couldn't help but mutter a curse at her uncle: "My uncle is such a big idiot!"

Upon hearing this, Zhao Canchen gently reminded him, "Your uncle must have traded that shop for other, more valuable benefits."

Upon hearing this, Lin Yajun seemed to wake from a dream, and exclaimed in sudden realization, "So that's how it is!"

She took all of her uncle's wealth, which was more than enough to buy this shop.

Lin Yajun fully utilized her bargaining skills accumulated in modern society and unhesitatingly began to haggle: "Boss, we really want to buy this shop! How about this, could you sell it to us for two thousand taels of silver, the shop and the goods together?"

Upon hearing this, the shopkeeper immediately shook his head in opposition: "That won't do, Miss. The cost of the goods in this shop is more than that!" He gestured with his hand to indicate his position, "I can only sell to you for at least two thousand eight taels of silver."

Lin Yajun observed the shopkeeper's expression, secretly calculating in her mind, and replied decisively, "Two thousand five taels at most, I can't afford any more than that! If you don't agree, then we'll have to go to the next shop."

After saying that, she made a move to walk out. When she reached the door, she pointed to the shop across the street and said, "Look, that shop is also for sale. I think its location is better, and it doesn't have to take over so many goods like you do here."

Upon hearing this, the shopkeeper immediately became anxious, fearing that the deal would fall through. He quickly exclaimed, "No, no, no, Miss, let's talk this over! Since you're so sincere, I'll sell it to you!"

Lin Yajun was secretly delighted, but on the surface she still pretended to be calm and said, "Alright, it's settled then!" Just like that, she successfully bargained down five hundred taels of silver, which amazed Zhao Canchen, who was standing next to her: "You're really amazing! You saved another five hundred taels of silver, and you can use that money to buy a small shop!"

"Haha, yes!" Lin Yajun laughed happily, very satisfied with her bargaining success. She then readily paid the shopkeeper with the silver note, completing the transaction.

With a smile on her face, Lin Yajun said softly to Zhao Canchen, "The joy of bargaining is just like finding a windfall!"

Upon hearing this, Zhao Canchen's face showed surprise, seemingly quite astonished by her words. After all, he had never heard of anyone connecting bargaining with finding silver.

Lin Yajun blinked and continued, "When you use the money you saved by bargaining to buy other things, you'll find that you gain double the happiness!"

Zhao Canchen listened to Lin Yajun's words and couldn't help but chuckle softly, thinking to himself: This is truly a quirky and clever girl, her actions are quite unconventional.

He nodded and smiled at Lin Yajun, saying, "Hmm, what you said makes a lot of sense! I'll try bargaining like that next time and find double the fun."
