Renfu
Ren Chuanhe, his face contorted with rage, hurried back to his residence, his entire being consumed by a burning anger.
His chest heaved violently, and his breathing became rapid, like that of an enraged wild beast.
As soon as he entered the general's mansion, Ren Chuanhe rushed towards the hall where Ren Guiwang was, his eyes bloodshot, staring intently at his father, his face full of anger and resentment.
"Father!" Ren Chuanhe's voice boomed like thunder in the hall, causing everyone present to tremble. "I will absolutely not marry the Lin family's daughter! What right do they have to compare themselves to our General's Mansion?"
"You actually want me to marry that Lin family girl? This is an insult to me!"
"Lin Daoyan's daughter will not be allowed to enter the gates of my Ren residence!"
Ren Chuanhe's roar echoed in the hall. He had completely lost control of his emotions, and the anger in his heart seemed to be burning the entire hall.
After shouting, Ren Chuanhe did not stop. Instead, he turned around and ran wildly towards the inner courtyard. He felt cold from the inside out and desperately needed to drink hot water. He went to bed, covered himself with the quilt, and hid from head to toe.
Ren Guiwang was stunned by his son's sudden outburst. He stared blankly at Ren Chuanhe's departing figure, speechless for a moment.
After a long while, he came to his senses and thought to himself: Since Ah He is unwilling to come forward to greet the bride, I will just send a servant to the Lin residence with a rooster in a couple of days to marry Lin Shi.
Deep down, Ren Guiwang also harbored resentment towards this marriage.
The previous marriage arrangement failed to resolve the conflict between the Ren family and Lin Daoyan. Now, another marriage arrangement is needed, and they want to marry Lin Daoyan's daughter back. Obviously, Lin Daoyan's family will not agree to this willingly.
He couldn't help but start to resent the person behind the scenes: Why did he insist that my son marry Lin Daoyan's daughter? They were not a good match, what was the real meaning behind this?
Before Ren Guiwang could figure out what was going on, a fire suddenly broke out at the Ren residence in the middle of the night, and the raging fire slowly engulfed the entire mansion.
The fire was exceptionally fierce, starting from Ren Chuanhe's outer room and quickly spreading into the house. Flames raged and thick smoke billowed, as if a ferocious beast was about to devour everything in the Ren family mansion.
Before the fire, Ren Chuanhe had been feeling unwell since returning from the Lin residence. He went to bed early to rest and groaned in his sleep, "My stomach hurts, my bones hurt, everything hurts."
He was writhing in pain, as if a knife was slowly torturing his body.
The servants on night duty hesitated for a moment before cautiously stepping forward to ask, "Sir, would you like a doctor to come and take a look at you?"
They asked several times, and were scolded by Ren Chuanhe several times.
Sure enough, Ren Chuanhe shouted in frustration, "Get out, get out, get out!"
The servants obeyed and rolled outside, sitting on the ground to keep watch, listening to the continuous cries of pain coming from inside.
They assumed the old man was just upset and would feel better by tomorrow morning, so they didn't pay much attention and leaned against the wall to doze off.
In the middle of the night, a mysterious person dressed in black and with a masked face sneaked into Ren Chuanhe's room.
He stood on the bed and slapped Ren Chuanhe hard across the face.
"Ah..." Ren Chuanhe looked up in horror, wanting to scream as if the man had a knife to his neck.
Caught completely off guard, Ren Chuanhe was so terrified by the sudden attack that he trembled violently.
The masked man moved swiftly and fiercely. He grabbed Ren Chuanhe from the bed and tied him tightly to the bed with a rope. He first stuffed a cloth into Ren Chuanhe's mouth so that he could not make a sound.
Then, the masked man began to assault Ren Chuanhe.
He slapped Ren Chuanhe dozens of times without mercy, each slap landing hard enough to make Ren Chuanhe bleed from his mouth and nose.
The masked man ripped the cloth out of Ren Chuanhe's mouth, and Ren Chuanhe painfully spat several times on the ground, all of his teeth being knocked out.
The masked man knocked Ren Chuanhe unconscious with another blow and cut out his tongue with a knife.
Ren Chuanhe woke up in pain, but he could only moan and groan, unable to make any other sound.
The masked man seemed unsatisfied; he picked up a wooden stick and smashed it hard against Ren Chuanhe's limbs.
The sound of the wooden stick striking the bone was particularly jarring in the quiet night, and Ren Chuanhe's screams were muffled in his throat.
The masked man then whispered in Ren Chuanhe's ear, "He's not someone you, a damned creature, can insult! You're the one who deserves to die a horrible death!"
Ren Chuanhe's eyes widened, filled with deep regret and fear.
The masked man then took out a small knife from his pocket and slowly gouged out Ren Chuanhe's eyes and cut off his ears.
After enduring a brutal and inhumane torture, Ren Chuanhe was covered in blood and on the verge of death.
The masked man then used a tinderbox to light fires around the room, and the room slowly came ablaze.
Ren Chuanhe struggled painfully in the sea of fire, his body relentlessly burned by the flames, his screams echoing throughout the entire mansion.
As the fire grew larger, the servants of the Ren family were unable to get close and could only watch from afar as Ren Chuanhe was burned alive.
The house was surrounded by a large amount of gunpowder and tung oil, and the fire was fierce, with flames shooting into the sky. Even splashing water was of no use.
"He'er, my son..." Madam Ren witnessed this horrific scene from afar, her heart breaking with grief. Overwhelmed with sorrow, she cried until she fainted.
"Fire! Fire! Fire!" Ren Guiwang shouted.
The servants of the Ren family carried basins of water and poured them into the fire, pretending to put it out.
As the fire grew larger, Ren Guiwang became increasingly anxious, pacing around like an ant on a hot pan, but he was helpless. In the end, he could only watch helplessly as his son was burned alive in the raging flames, and he was powerless to do anything about it.
"What on earth is going on?" Ren Guiwang's voice was almost frantic. He howled like a wounded beast, his heart filled with despair and anger.
Various possibilities kept flashing through his mind, and the one he suspected the most was Lin Daoyan.
Ren Guiwang immediately summoned the servants who had accompanied his eldest son to the Lin residence, and roared angrily, "Tell me the truth, what exactly happened at the Lin residence!"
The servants were trembling with fear and knelt on the ground, not daring to hide anything, and told the whole story in detail.
When Ren Guiwang heard that his eldest son had actually cursed Zhao Canchen at the Lin residence, he felt a darkness before his eyes, as if his whole world was collapsing in an instant.
Ren Guiwang finally understood the reason why his eldest son had suffered such a misfortune.
He knew all too well that after his eldest son's tragic death, the marriage with the Lin family could not continue, and his master would surely be furious.
"It's over, it's over..." Ren Guiwang muttered in despair, his body collapsing as if it had lost its support, and he fainted.
When Ren Guiwang slowly opened his eyes and his consciousness gradually returned, he found that the surrounding environment was no longer dark, but was illuminated by bright sunlight.
He struggled to sit up, still feeling slightly weak, but his anxiety overwhelmed him.
He staggered into the courtyard, looked around, and was horrified by what he saw.
The entire inner courtyard of the Ren residence had been burned to ruins by the raging fire, leaving only a few rooms in the front yard standing there forlornly.
