Chapter 108 Nobody Remembers Rong Yan

This meeting lasted the entire morning.

Afterwards, the cadres, notebooks in hand, kept asking Chen Yunyun a barrage of questions.

Ma Zhiguo moved to the front, listening to Chen Yunyun speak while taking notes.

Looking at the two full pages of notes in his notebook, Ma Zhiguo's admiration for Chen Yunyun grew stronger.

Comrade Chen Yunyun usually keeps a low profile, but I never expected her to have so many ideas.

From farming to transportation, from raw material extraction to cooperative business models, she spoke clearly and logically.

"Comrade Chen, you're so young, yet you know so much. Where did you learn all of that?"

They had done some research on Chen Yunyun. She was from the neighboring Yuanshan County. She married here two years ago and divorced not long after. Her ex-husband was an officer in the army.

Aside from that, she doesn't seem to have read many books. How does she know so much?

Chen Yunyun had already prepared her explanation: "To be honest, I love reading. The more I read, the more I understand. I'll put together a reading list and share it with you next time we meet, so you can read more of it too."

Ma Zhiguo's eyes lit up after hearing this. "Really? Thank you so much, Comrade Chen!"

As Chen Yunyun left the storage room, she remembered something she hadn't finished. She started walking and hurried towards the fields.

It's already noon, and many people who have been busy all morning are packing up their farm tools and heading home.

Everyone greeted Chen Yunyun when they saw her.

"Has the scorekeeper left?"

The person she stopped to ask questions was her third aunt. Chen Yunyun had some conflicts with her when she first arrived, and her third aunt reluctantly replied, "She's still here."

"Thank you." Chen Yunyun said and walked away, her steps quickening.

Only Auntie San was left, holding her hoe, looking utterly bewildered. This woman wasn't trying to scam her out of eggs today? She even thanked her? Had the sun risen in the west?

Chen Yunyun jogged for two minutes and finally spotted the scorekeeper on the ridge of the field.

"Comrade He, I'm late. I'm here to ask Chen Yan for leave. He has to go on a long trip."

The scorekeeper, Xiao He, looked up and, after listening to Chen Yunyun's words, frowned and asked, "Who is Chen Yan? Comrade Chen, what are you talking about?"

Chen Yunyun thought she hadn't explained it clearly, so she repeated it again.

"This is my younger brother, Chen Yan. He didn't come to work today, so I'm asking you for leave."

The scorekeeper looked bewildered. "Comrade Chen, you must be joking. You don't have a younger brother."

Chen Yunyun sensed something was wrong, and she confirmed it again, "He's tall and thin, very handsome, and those educated youths love to hang around him. Not long ago, Aunt Wang even had a matchmaker come to him to arrange a marriage."

"Huh? I don't remember this person. If he were on our team, his name should be on the scoreboard."

Chen Yunyun took the scorebook and flipped back to the days of busy farming, but Rong Yan's name wasn't there...

"Ah, maybe I remembered it wrong."

She has a very bold guess in mind now, and she needs to find someone to verify it.

Chen Yunyun ran to the outside of the educated youth settlement and knocked on the door.

It was lunchtime, and as soon as the door opened, a table of people sitting inside could be seen; they were all educated youth from the city.

"Comrade Chen, is there something you need?"

"Um, it's nothing. I'll go find Liu Ting."

Liu Ting was the young girl among the educated youth who fell in love with Rong Yan. A whole month passed, and even though Rong Yan was indifferent to her, she remained unmoved.

If even she didn't remember Rong Yan, Chen Yunyun dared not think any further.

The two stood outside the educated youth settlement, and Chen Yunyun asked, "Do you know Chen Yan?"

Liu Ting's expression was clearly puzzled. "Who is Chen Yan?"

After a few tentative probes, Chen Yunyun realized that Rong Yan truly didn't remember her. She lowered her eyes and lied, "It's nothing, a friend asked me to ask..."
