Chapter 11 Stir-fried Wild Mushrooms

At dawn, a rooster's crow broke the silence.

Chen Yunyun opened her eyes. Sanwa was resting on her arm, pressing down on her arm so much that she couldn't feel anything.

She tiptoed out of bed, but still woke up Niu Niu and Da Wa.

"Mother, let me help you start the fire."

Chen Yunyun refused, only asking Da Wa and Niu Niu to write the words she had taught them yesterday on the ground and recognize them.

When Chen Yunyun finished cooking breakfast and came out, the ground in the yard was covered with children's writing.

Niu Niu was exceptionally careful with every stroke of her pen, and Da Wa was no exception.

"You write well, but you still need to practice more. I practice calligraphy at home after breakfast, and I can only go out to play in the afternoon when it gets hotter."

Niu Niu nodded obediently. Although Da Wa didn't say anything, Chen Yunyun knew he wouldn't argue.

She made steamed egg custard this morning by cracking four eggs, sprinkling in some salt, whisking them, and steaming them in a pot. It was done very quickly.

The eggs were soft and smooth, with no fishy smell at all, and the three kids ate them with great relish.

These days, eggs are a rare commodity. In rural areas, families only afford to steam them for their children during festivals and holidays. The rest are usually saved up and traded for grain.

Seeing that her three children were all thin and weak, Chen Yunyun didn't care about hiding anything anymore and used all the good things to nourish the children.

She never minded being exposed, after all, the system didn't stipulate that she had to keep secrets.

If they continue living under the original owner's identity, the children may not necessarily let go.

Because in the past, the person she was wearing had cruelly tormented children!

Just because she came here and gave the children some food, is it a bit too far-fetched to expect the children to let go of their hatred?

Therefore, Chen Yunyun didn't bother to hide her true self from the children, nor did she deliberately imitate the original owner's appearance.

Her primary goal right now is to accumulate points.

Speaking of points, the system hasn't issued any tasks all day.

She was given 100 points when she first arrived, which she used up quite a bit. Later, she earned 520 points from a task, and when she checked the task panel, she had 528 points remaining.

On days when she had no points, she especially looked forward to the system issuing tasks again.

The children were all at home in the morning, so Chen Yunyun picked up a hoe and went to the fields.

Her family's land was near wasteland, overgrown with weeds. In the past, it was always the older child who worked in the fields, but since he was still a child and no one taught him, the fields were a mess, and the harvest was naturally worse than that of other people in the village.

Chen Yunyun rolled up her sleeves and diligently weeded and turned the soil. After a busy morning, her back was covered in a light sweat, and her arms began to ache and feel weak.

She squatted down and started pulling weeds.

The weeds were knee-high and grew densely, making them extremely difficult to pull up.

Chen Yunyun parted the thick layer of weeds with her hands, and exclaimed, "Wow!"

There was a nest of wild eggs!

They are small, with seven or eight in a litter.

Seeing that no one was around, Chen Yunyun put the wild eggs into her pocket.

Wild chicken eggs are much more nutritious than eggs laid by domestic chickens, so we give them to the kids as a snack at lunchtime.

Having received an unexpected surprise, Chen Yunyun became more patient with her weeding work, but she didn't find any more wild eggs. Instead, she found a clump of thriving wild mushrooms in the grass.

This mushroom is not poisonous. She used to eat this mushroom in her rural hometown. It was so delicious when stir-fried in a hot pan.

As soon as they got home, Sanwa stumbled and rushed towards her. He was young and didn't remember anything. He only cared about his mother when she had food, so he was very clingy to Chen Yunyun.

When I left home in the morning, the third child was still taking a nap. After waking up, he kept crying for his mother. The eldest child and the younger one took turns coaxing him several times, but it didn't help.

The two older children were speechless at the third child's behavior; they never expected that a traitor would emerge from among the three of them first...

After returning home, Chen Yunyun first prepared some milk powder for the children. She stored the milk powder in an inconspicuous earthenware jar, saying that she bought it from the supply and marketing cooperative, and the children did not suspect anything.

After drinking the milk, the third child became much more well-behaved and started playing by himself again.

Da Wa and Niu Niu washed the dishes and started helping with the housework.

When Chen Yunyun finished cooking, the dirty clothes had been washed and hung on the line, and the fallen leaves in the yard had been cleaned up.

The clothes were washed by Da Wa, whose hands were swollen and purple from the cold. Chen Yunyun quickly took out some frostbite cream and rubbed it on for him.

"Don't scratch if your hands itch, or it will fester and become infected." Turning her head, Chen Yunyun applied some to Niu Niu as well.

At noon, she steamed white rice, which was fragrant and soft.

Fresh mushrooms, still glistening with dew from the ground, are stir-fried in oil, bringing out their unique mushroom aroma.

After working hard all morning, Chen Yunyun was exhausted and hungry. She couldn't stop herself and ate two large bowls of rice, leaving the rims of the bowls clean and not a single grain of rice left.

She ladled another bowl of rice porridge from the pot. The snow-white porridge was filled with a rich aroma of rice. One sip not only quenched her thirst but also made her stomach feel extremely comfortable.

After dinner, Chen Yunyun sat on a stone stool in the courtyard and looked up at the sky.

Winter hadn't even arrived yet, but the weather was getting colder and colder. Her family had nothing left in their fields, no stored grain, and they didn't dare to spend their money openly.

To get through the winter safely, we need to put in a lot of effort and make several plans.

After resting for a short while, Da Wa and Niu Niu went out to collect firewood, while she carried San Wa on her back to work in the fields.

Sanwa had slept all morning and was full of energy. He didn't want to stay on Chen Yunyun's back, so Chen Yunyun put him on the side of the ground and let him pull weeds to play.

Chen Yunyun has started diligently digging and planting vegetables again. She used to yearn for rural life when she worked overtime and would always tell her best friend that she would find a place to farm after retirement.

Now that she's actually living a farming life, she's started to miss the conveniences of modern life.

Because farming is really tiring!

She could barely swing her arm anymore!
