That night.
Chen Yunyun had another dream.
She returned to the dark, sunless underwater prison, where Rong Yan was still nailed to the rock wall, his wounds a bloody mess, barely able to maintain a human form.
"Rong Yan, Rong Yan, wake up."
Rong Yan seemed unable to hear her, his scarred dragon claws hanging limply.
Chen Yunyun wanted to save him, so she swam to the nail and used her fish mouth to tear at it.
The iron nails were made of some unknown material; they were extremely cold and had sharp barbs.
Chen Yunyun's fish-like mouth quickly rotted, but fortunately it was in a dream, so she didn't feel any pain.
"Don't bother, this isn't a place for you."
Rong Yan woke up at some point, his voice hoarse and low from the prolonged torment.
Upon hearing the familiar voice and seeing Rong Yan's broken body, Chen Yunyun's eyes stung, and tears welled up in her eyes.
While crying, Chen Yunyun woke herself up.
At night, she didn't have the habit of turning on the lights, and it was pitch black all around, with only a faint scent of sandalwood lingering around her nose.
etc?
sandalwood?!
Chen Yunyun suddenly sat up, not even having time to put on her coat, and walked to Rong Yan's door after only putting on her shoes.
The door, which was usually tightly closed, was now ajar, letting in some light. Someone was there!
Chen Yunyun was overjoyed and stepped inside without thinking.
On the bamboo bed, a familiar figure was sitting cross-legged in meditation.
Two months had passed, and he seemed to have lost some weight. His jade-like face was handsome, like a banished immortal, while the faint blue veins on his neck hinted at his unfathomable strength.
The man opened his eyes almost as soon as Chen Yunyun reached the door.
The two gazed at each other for a long, long time in the dim candlelight.
Chen Yunyun moved her lips, but the usually quick-witted woman was now at a loss for words. After a long pause, she finally managed to say, "You...you're back?"
Rong Yan's deep gaze fell upon her without any attempt to conceal it. His tone was calm yet brooked no refusal, "Come here."
Chen Yunyun slowly walked to Rong Yan's bedside. She had calmed down a bit by now, and her behavior was as natural as possible.
"Why didn't you say you were coming back? What's with sneaking back in the middle of the night? I thought a thief had broken into the house."
She began to ramble on and on, and Rong Yan's expression always softened when he listened to her speak.
After Chen Yunyun finished speaking, Rong Yan twirled the sandalwood beads in his hand, his thin lips curving into a half-smile, "I heard you're dating someone?"
Oh my god!
A bolt of lightning struck Chen Yunyun, leaving her scorched and battered.
How did Rong Yan find out?!
"I……"
She was about to explain when Rong Yan interrupted her. His tone was actually quite gentle, but Yunyun could always detect a hint of coldness in it: "You have quite a few suitors."
"What a coincidence, I happen to know a sword technique that can sever peach blossoms. How about I show it to you?"
Although it's a question, who would dare to offend Boss Rong Yan at this critical juncture?
Anyway, Chen Yunyun chickened out.
"Please, do as you please."
The kerosene lamp was hung under the eaves. Rong Yan summoned his sword and fiddled with the wick in the lamp, making the flame even brighter.
He stood beneath the plum tree, his figure graceful and elegant, his clothes fluttering, his sword flashing, so dazzling that it dazzled the eyes.
The system once said that her dream was Rong Yan's past, so the things she did, like being trapped in the underwater prison and tortured, were all real.
Thinking of this, Chen Yunyun felt as if her heart had been pricked by needles, and the pain was so intense that she couldn't catch her breath.
"What? Is it because I didn't dance well enough?"
The sandalwood incense drew closer, and the two were only an inch apart.
She looked up, he looked down, the candlelight flickered, and the atmosphere gradually took on an indescribable meaning.
In the end, it was Chen Yunyun who was the first to look away. As soon as their eyes met, she blushed. At this moment, she lowered her head in embarrassment and missed the undercurrent of affection in the man's eyes.
"I came back because I need your help with something."
Is there really something Rong Yan can't do? Chen Yunyun naturally agreed, "Okay, go ahead."
"The lock, that thing on you, can you unlock it for me?"
This statement reveals a lot of information. First, Rong Yan knows that she has a system. Second, Rong Yan wants to unlock the mother-child lock.
After the lock is removed, there probably won't be any excuse for them to stay together anymore.
Chen Yunyun's heart was like duckweed on a river, rising and falling with the terrain of the riverbed.
"It can be untied."
What conditions are required?
Rong Yan is very smart; he knows everything.
Upon his return, he could easily see the change in Chen Yunyun's attitude towards him.
He could have stayed by Chen Yunyun's side as before, tacitly pretending the lock didn't exist, but he didn't...
Chen Yunyun also understood the subtext in his words: Rong Yan probably wouldn't stay long this time.
She felt a dull ache in her heart, but she couldn't say it. She suppressed all her thoughts, thinking, "I need your protective shield."
After thinking for a moment, she added, "It's just a loan, I can return it to you soon."
Rong Yan chuckled softly and plucked a hard, black scale from his chest.
He placed the scale in Chen Yunyun's palm, and then gently squeezed her hand. "Yunyun, don't be angry."
Rong Yan was born with an exceptionally handsome appearance. As long as he softened his tone slightly and a hint of pleading appeared between his brows, he could make people want to give their lives for him.
Chen Yunyun clenched the warm scales in her hand, which seemed to still carry his body heat, without saying a word.
She called upon the system in her mind.
[Host, congratulations, you did it.]
