Chapter 2 The First Darkened Cub

The voices coming from under the tree were coming from his stepmother.

"Big brother, come out quickly, Mother will take you home."

The boy was listless, but he could still hear the woman's words clearly.

He really didn't expect his stepmother to come looking for him. What did she want from him?

The eldest son thought for a moment with his groggy head, and figured it was probably because he could work in the fields and was the only able-bodied person in the family...

He forced a pale smile; he really didn't want to die. How could he take revenge if he died?

Hatred welled up in his dark eyes, and guided by his emotions, he became somewhat more spirited.

Weren't you here to find him?

Let's see if Chen Yunyun is lucky enough to take him back.

Xu Jingrun, leaning against the tree trunk, shakily stood up and shouted loudly in a certain direction, "Mother! I'm here!"

The boy had been hungry all day, and his shout wasn't actually loud, but in the quiet woods, it was all too abrupt.

The birds were startled away, and the woods returned to silence.

Chen Yunyun came to her senses and realized that he was in the tree.

She went toward the sound and saw a dark shadow standing in the tree.

"Come down, I'll take you home."

Xu Jingrun stared intently at the movement under the tree, gripping the trunk tightly beside him, but his voice sounded weak and feeble: "Mother, I have no strength."

"Jump down, Mom will catch you. Let's go home soon, you must be hungry."

A stepmother would never say such a thing. Xu Jingrun found it unusual, but he didn't have the energy to think about it at the moment. He just slowly squatted down and sat on the tree trunk.

Xu Jingrun was the first to notice the movement in the grass in the distance. He smiled and said to the figure under the tree, "Mother, you are so good to me."

In the next life, don't be my mother.

Xu Jingrun closed his eyes and quietly awaited what was to come.

The woman's abruptly stopped scream, the wild boar's roar, and the dull thud of a heavy object falling to the ground mingled together...

Xu Jingrun said he had never heard such a beautiful sound before. He closed his eyes, a strange smile on his lips, and fell into a deep sleep.
