Chapter 24: Auntie was moved to tears?

"Auntie, you're absolutely right. If you're going to take revenge, you should take it out on me. Why are you targeting someone unrelated?"

"I think it might be some kind of ghost causing trouble."

"Instead of asking me, Auntie, why don't you go and ask Tiger's family if they've done anything wrong? You're related to Tiger's family, so don't let it get to yours."

The aunt who was speaking was a cousin of Hu Zi's mother, which was why she deliberately spoke like that, wanting to embarrass Chen Yunyun.

As a result, Chen Yunyun exposed her mistake with a single sentence, leaving the aunt in an awkward position.

But they were all seasoned veterans in the village, so they weren't about to admit defeat. The auntie turned her face away.

“I’m an elder, even your husband has to call me Third Aunt.”

“When I teach you something, you should listen to me. You have no shame and you talk back. Is it because your mother didn’t teach you well?”

"I haven't even said two words to you, and you've already turned around and cursed me. If I had a daughter-in-law as wicked as you, I might have died young like Zhijun's mother."

The old woman had a long face and was throwing a tantrum, cursing and yelling nonstop. An ordinary woman would have been brought to tears by her outbursts.

But Chen Yunyun was different. She stood quietly with a smile on her lips, as if those vicious attacks did not exist.

When the old woman finished cursing and was panting heavily, Chen Yunyun stepped forward and spoke in a voice that only the two of them could hear.

“Old Yu, look at your family, everyone is dead, you’re childless and have no descendants. I really can’t compare to you in that respect.”

"Life without family must be very lonely. As a junior, I would like to advise you to eat and drink well, and not to starve or freeze to death, otherwise no one will be there to collect your body."

This old woman, relying on her age, often swaggered around the village, acting like a spoiled brat.

But her greatest sorrow was the death of her son and his family.

In winter, she tormented her pregnant daughter-in-law, who, in a fit of anger, ran up the mountain. Her son went up to look for her, and both of them died in the mountains.

So Chen Yunyun's words hit the old woman right where it hurt.

Her eyes widened, she held her breath, and after a long while, she couldn't catch her breath and collapsed to the ground.

Seeing that the old woman's face had turned black and her eyes were rolling back, Chen Yunyun punched her in the chest while shouting, "Help! Someone help! Auntie can't breathe! Help!"

People around came out after hearing the commotion, and saw Auntie lying on the ground, her face black, as if she was about to die.

A gaunt woman knelt beside her aunt and punched her in the chest.

They were putting in their all; even from this distance, they could hear the whooshing sound of the punches.

Just as they were about to pull the woman away, they suddenly noticed that the third aunt let out a long sigh, and her complexion improved considerably.

They actually recovered!

"It's alive! It's alive!"

"Oh, Auntie, you really have to thank Zhijun's wife. If it weren't for her, you might be dead..."

Amidst the chatter of those around her, Chen Yunyun stood up, dusted herself off, and said earnestly, "This is unacceptable. I am a junior; how can I let my third aunt thank me? This is all I should do."

Auntie San, who had just caught her breath, almost fainted from anger after hearing these words.

She stretched out her withered hand and pointed at Chen Yunyun, her trembling fingertips filled with anger, but Chen Yunyun caught her hand quickly.

"Oh, Auntie, don't thank me. I already said I should pay back the money. How can I not pay it back just because I saved your life?"

The old woman's pale face was cracked. What was Chen Yunyun saying?

She had a bad feeling...

The two were standing very close, with Chen Yunyun's body just enough to block the old woman's face, so the onlookers could only hear their voices.

The thin young woman exclaimed excitedly, "Third Aunt! You are such a reasonable person!"

"As a junior, it is only right to pay back debts, but since you, Third Aunt, are insisting so strongly, I, as a junior, have no choice but to respectfully comply and will not pay back the money!"

"Third Aunt, I know you're excited, but don't rush. We just rescued you, so you need to catch your breath and recover first."

"This one reward is enough; you don't need to send me eggs anymore!"

The old woman lay on the ground, her eyes wide open, watching Chen Yunyun perform a one-woman show.

She'll be so angry she'll faint, isn't that all thanks to Chen Yunyun's doing?

When did she ever show gratitude?!

When did she ever say that Chen Yunyun shouldn't pay back the money?!

That's a full five yuan!

The old woman was very agitated and was about to retort, but her whole body felt like mud and she couldn't muster any strength.

The villagers watching were talking amongst themselves, saying, "Auntie San should thank Zhijun's wife a lot. She saved your life. She would give you ten yuan, let alone five."

"It's good that you're back in the game. Go back inside and lie down."

Third Aunt was carried into the house. Chen Yunyun stood by the door, holding two eggs in her hand, smiling very gently.

But Auntie knew that all the gentleness was a facade; that woman was ruthless!

The thought of the five yuan she had lost and never returned, and the eggs she cherished and couldn't bear to eat, brought tears to Auntie's eyes.

Upon seeing this, the villager who was carrying her exclaimed, "Oh my, Auntie San is so moved she's crying!"
