"piece."
Sure enough, upon hearing this number, several black lines appeared on Tiger's mother's forehead.
Even the black market isn't as corrupt as this woman in front of me!
She thought to herself that Chen Yunyun was simply holding a grudge and trying to extort money from her.
But she had no choice; even knowing it was a deep pit, she still had to jump in.
Tiger's mother quickly bought the things, afraid that Chen Yunyun might say something else.
She pulled Hu Zi aside, turned around, and walked into the snowy night.
Winter days always end early; in the short time we were talking, it had already gotten completely dark.
Tiger's mother didn't bring a lantern, but she figured it was in the village anyway, so walking back in the dark wouldn't be a problem.
Tiger walked ahead of his mother, carrying newly bought chestnuts and pine nuts.
He bit into one and put it in his mouth; it was indeed sweet.
Even that woman wouldn't dare to lie to him.
As they walked, Tiger suddenly stopped.
Strange, why isn't his mother saying anything?
Weren't you just calling Chen Yunyun a little whore?
Now there's no sound at all, not even the crunching sound of footsteps on the snow...
Tiger turned around, and all he saw was darkness.
He can't see anything.
"mother?"
He called out tentatively, but no one answered.
"Mom, hurry up! If we don't go back to cook, Dad will beat us!"
There was still no response.
Tiger took two steps toward the darkness, and a foul, fishy stench wafted over.
The stench made him bend over, and he vomited up all the chestnuts he had just eaten.
Then, a sharp pain shot through his neck, and Tiger lost consciousness completely.
The door to Chen Yunyun's house was knocked on in the middle of the night. As soon as she opened the door to the main room, she saw the light of torches outside the wall.
She opened the gate, and standing at the front was the village chief, whose body was hunched over.
Standing next to the village chief was Zhang the hunter, and behind them were several villagers. The way they looked at Chen Yunyun left her somewhat puzzled.
"I wonder what's wrong, village chief, that you're knocking on the door in the middle of the night?"
The village chief gestured to Zhang the hunter beside him, indicating that he should speak.
Zhang the hunter looked at Chen Yunyun with lingering apprehension. He asked directly, "Did my wife come to your place last night?"
"Yes, that's right."
Chen Yunyun thought to herself, "Is Tiger's mother a sore loser?"
They went back and found out they'd been scammed, so they came to make a scene.
She thought about it seriously. The Zhang family was so concerned about their reputation, they probably wouldn't go that far.
"So, what happened?"
Zhang the hunter kept a close eye on her expression, and only spoke when he saw that she had no flaws.
"Let's go inside and talk."
They spoke very politely, so they probably didn't come looking for trouble.
Chen Yunyun opened the door wide and let them all in.
A group of people stood under the eaves and naturally saw the salted fish and sausages drying under the eaves.
Now, everyone looked at Chen Yunyun even more strangely.
Goodness, who said Zhijun's family is the poorest?
Look at all this sausages, cured meat, and salted fish that take up half the roof! Even the village chief's house isn't this luxurious!
The village chief was old, so Chen Yunyun brought out a stool for him to sit down.
Only then did Zhang the hunter explain the situation.
It turned out that Tiger's mother and Tiger had both disappeared.
Zhang the hunter waited at home for half a day, but no one came home to cook for him, and his son did not return either.
He then went out to search, turning the whole village upside down, but couldn't find a trace of him.
Zhang the hunter realized that things had gotten serious.
Someone told him that they had seen Tiger's mother and Tiger go to Chen Yunyun's house, so he came looking for them.
After hearing this, Chen Yunyun frowned. Missing?
Where can a person go so late at night?
Seeing that Zhang the hunter was indeed nervous, and that he wasn't as rude to her as before, she noticed that Zhang was indeed nervous.
Chen Yunyun cooperated and answered the questions.
"They arrived around seven o'clock, before it got completely dark. They bought some food and then went back."
Hunter Zhang pressed on, "When did they leave?"
"It's getting dark, probably around 7:30."
It's already past ten o'clock. If I wanted to go home, I would have gone home long ago.
Chen Yunyun asked, "Have you looked by the river?"
The mother and son were fishing there in the afternoon; I wonder if they went again.
Hunter Zhang shook his head, looking dejected. "Nobody's here."
With the Lunar New Year approaching, my son and daughter-in-law have gone missing. What kind of situation is this?
Since Chen Yunyun couldn't offer any help, the group prepared to leave.
Zhang the hunter walked at the back. After everyone in front of him had moved four or five meters away, he turned around and looked at Chen Yunyun.
Zhang, the hunter who always looked down on everyone and was arrogant and conceited, now looked as if he had aged ten years.
His weathered face was etched with deep lines, and his eyes were filled with despair. "I'm truly sorry about what happened before."
"If you did this, I hope you will spare their lives."
Chen Yunyun hadn't opened her mouth yet.
Zhang the hunter smiled wryly, "I know, it really wasn't you."
"If we search until dawn and still can't find them..."
"I wish it had been you who did it."
His last few words were spoken in such a low voice that they were almost inaudible.
Chen Yunyun felt that Zhang the hunter's back as he walked into the wind and snow with his hunting rifle on his back exuded a sense of determination.
His son was his Achilles' heel.
The child is missing. In such heavy snow, a person would freeze to death if they stayed outside overnight.
He probably said those things because he felt there was no hope left.
If it were several children who got into trouble, Chen Yunyun would probably end up like him...
Influenced by Zhang the Hunter, and seeing himself reflected in him, Chen Yunyun's mood became somewhat depressed.
Chen Yunyun went back into the room and crawled back into bed.
The older child in the bed lit the kerosene lamp. "Mother, what's going on outside?"
