Chapter 10 Labor is Glorious

The queue for collecting tools soon reached Jiang Baige.

She felt very cold in the morning, so she put on the big scarf again.

The whole head was wrapped up, leaving only a pair of watery eyes exposed.

There is no other way. It is too cold here.

By the time they received their farm tools, the remaining hoes were heavy and difficult to use.

The person distributing the farm tools was the village chief's wife, Zhou Xiuying. She looked smiling and should not be a tricky person.

After Jiang Baige signed her name, Zhou Xiuying said, "Young comrade, you can choose the farm tools here. Take whatever is most convenient for you."

She can't read, so now we can only call her little comrade.

I don’t know their last names, so the younger ones are called “little comrade”, the female ones are called “female comrade”, the younger ones are called “little educated youth”, and the female ones are called “educated youth comrade”.

This is what her daughter taught her, saying that it sounds like a cultured person.

Jiang Baige nodded, said thank you, and reached out to pick up a smaller hoe.

She is small to begin with and her hands are small, so she really can't hold anything big.

This hoe looks small, but it is actually quite heavy in the hand, at least six or seven pounds.

Jiang Baige thought to himself, "It's hard to hold this hoe. If I work for a whole day, I'll be exhausted."

But she was just thinking about it in her mind and had no intention of changing to another job. If she started to be picky as soon as she arrived, it would leave a bad impression on others.

The educated youth followed the villagers to the fields, and the supervisor allocated a piece of land to each of them. From the beginning to the end, it was estimated to be at least a mile away.

There was still a little snow in the sky, but it was time to plant the crops.

Once the land is turned over and the weather gets warmer, this season's cotton, wheat and sweet potatoes can be planted immediately.

There is still a season of corn to be planted in the middle, so even though the ice in the ground has not melted yet, the mud has to be turned over.

We have to wait until this season's harvest is over before we can plant the next season of wheat in the second half of the year.

When I arrived at the field, I looked at the methods used by the old educated youth and saw that Jiang Baige was just doing the same thing.

She had no skill in digging the ground. She used the hoe to dig to the left and then to the right. After a few strokes, she felt her palms burning.

When I raised my hand, I saw blisters and it was red from the cold.

The Wu Juan sisters were not much better off. Wu Lili had done little work since she was a child and was very fat, so her arms ached from fatigue.

His feet were stuck in the mud and he couldn't get them out. Soon he started whimpering, half crying, with his mouth pouting.

Wu Juan has been helping with housework since she was a child, and she basically grows all the vegetables in her family's private plot.

But he was too young back then, and died soon after. Compared to what he has now, it is still far behind.

Soon, the three of them were left far behind the team.

This work is calculated based on work points, and Jiang Baige doesn't want to work so hard. She just wants to do her job the best she can so that others can't find any mistakes.

She just took as many work points as she could get! She didn't want to work too hard.

This whole morning, she followed the Wu sisters at a leisurely pace.

They were all new, teenage girls, and they worked slowly, so the supervisors were not in a hurry to urge them to work.

The villagers had been working for a while when an old lady came to the field. She looked very old and was coughing badly.

Most of the people in Chenjia Village are surnamed Chen, and the supervisor is also surnamed Chen, so his full name is Chen Si.

Nowadays, people have many children and their education is limited, so most children's names are arranged in order of first, second, third and fourth.

Chen Si is a rough man in his fifties. While supervising others, he also does his own work well.

Seeing that Aunt Meng came again today, Chen Si put down the work in his hands and came to her.

"Mrs. Meng, you can't see clearly. There are no stones to pick up today. You should go back and have a rest!"

"Not only are those few work points you earn not very useful, but you're also suffering from being sick all the time."

Grandma Meng is an elderly woman living alone. The younger generation in the village all call her Grandma. She used to have a son, but something happened in her family many years ago and her son was lost.

Not long after, her husband also died of illness.

Now she is the only one left at home, her husband and son are gone, and she has cried herself blind.

She lives alone, has poor eyesight, and has a somewhat eccentric personality.

After hearing what the supervisor said, Aunt Meng said unhappily.

"Okay, I can still hold on. If there are no rocks to pick up, I'll just pull up the grass roots. You go back to work!"

Chen Si had no choice. He had come twice, but the old lady just refused to go back, so he had no choice but to go back and do his own work.

If she doesn't work, she won't have a share of work, and then she won't get any food, so what will she eat?

Jiang Baige had been paying attention to the movements behind her. The old lady had long gray hair, which was braided and tied up at the back of her head.

She was just a little thinner. Looking at the old woman touching the grass roots on the ground, Jiang Baige felt that she was so pitiful.

It was soon time for lunch. As soon as the broadcast sounded, the people in the fields stopped working and went home to cook.

Jiang Baige was exhausted and walked at the end of the crowd, rubbing her sore arms and crying and cursing in her heart.

"God, can't you send me somewhere else? I don't want this space anymore, okay?"

When she got no response, she choked again.

"Tsk, it seems you don't have any skills. You can get me here, but you can't do it anywhere else."

They went home to make lunch, and after filling their stomachs, they prepared to rest.

There is a two-hour break after lunch, and we have to go back to work at 2 pm. Those who are quick-witted have gone back to bed to sleep.

Jiang Baige was afraid that the blisters on her hands would get worse in the afternoon, so she took out a pair of gloves from the space and put them in her pocket when she went to the bathroom.
