Chapter 102 Fate

Xu Jie pushed open the door and shouted inside.

"Grandma, brother, I'm back. Look, I brought a guest back today."

Suddenly, a thin and small child ran out from a room.

"Brother, you're back. What did you pick up today?"

As soon as the child went out, he saw a beautiful older sister. When he saw the stranger, he was scared and hid behind the door.

Children in the countryside rarely see outsiders and are generally timid.

Xu Jie dropped the backpack and ran over. "Come, brother will tell you, this sister is the one who gave us candy last time. Call her sister quickly."

With Xu Jie's introduction, Xu Rui also walked out boldly.

I called out timidly, "Hello, sister."

Jiang Baige smiled at him and took out another handful of candy.

His hands are too small to hold so much.

I looked and saw that there was a pocket on his clothes, so I put the money in it.

"Children, eat less sugar. Eating too much will damage your teeth."

Xu Rui instantly revealed a sweet smile, "Sister, well, I'm very good, can I just take one a day?"

Jiang Baige nodded to it, "Yes, okay."

Xu Jie said, "Sister, come in and sit down quickly. My grandma is cooking."

An old man's voice came from inside, "Xiao Jie, Xiao Rui, what are you guys chattering about? Come in quickly and eat soon."

The two brothers Xu Jie each pulled their sister's sleeve and led them into the house.

"Grandma, look who's here."

When Jiang Baige entered the room, she saw an old woman with white hair and skinny body.

She came out from behind the stove, dusting her apron as she went.

"Xiao Jie, who is this girl?"

Xu Jie quickly introduced: "Grandma, this is the sister I told you about last time. I met her again today."

Grandma Xu clapped her hands happily, "Oh! It's you! Come on, come inside and sit down."

Jiang Baige smiled at her, "Mother-in-law, you're welcome."

"Well."

Before she could finish her words, she was pulled by the three generations of grandparents and grandchildren to sit on a stool.

Grandma Xu sat down with them. "Oh! Last time, my eldest grandson came back and said that he was saved by an older sister. At that time, I wanted to thank you very much. It wasn't until today that I met you. My little girl, you are such a kind person."

Jiang Baige waved her hands quickly, "I didn't help much, I'm relieved that he's okay."

Xu Jie interjected, "It was quite dangerous that day. I only managed to escape thanks to my sister's kick."

The three generations of grandparents and grandchildren surrounded her and expressed their gratitude to her for a long time.

Xu Jie suddenly said, "Grandma, is the meal ready? I'm hungry, let's eat."

Grandma Xu hurriedly said, "Okay, okay, wait for me, little girl. We'll have dinner soon."

So, Grandma Xu took the two children to get the food.

Jiang Baige's eyes followed them, "Mother-in-law, I've eaten. Leave me alone."

"Ah! Sister, you've eaten."

Xu Jie looked lost. He had nothing to give in return to his sister, so he could only invite her to dinner at his home.

Grandma Xu said, "My little girl, please don't be polite. It's just a simple meal, so please eat a little."

Jiang Baige smiled and said, "I really have eaten it. I'm not being polite with you."

"Then you sit for a while. The two naughty kids are hungry. Let them eat first."

Grandma Xu talked to her while serving porridge to the two children.

Xu Jie brought the porridge and came over to sit with Jiang Baige.

"Sister, where is your home? I go to the street every day, but I've only run into you three times."

Jiang Baige looked at the rice in his bowl, which was cornmeal porridge cooked with vegetables.

The porridge was watery and filled with vegetables, with a few corn kernels visible occasionally.

He took a deep breath before replying, "I don't live here. I came here today to do some work. I'll be leaving tonight."

As he spoke, he took his eyes off his bowl and looked around their house.

It was dinner time, and there was only a grandmother and two little grandchildren at home.

Looking at the family's situation, Jiang Baige was certain that this family consisted of only three people, a grandparent and grandchild.

If there were two young and middle-aged people in the family, the house would definitely not be allowed to fall into such a dilapidated state.

They were not familiar with each other, and Jiang Baige was too embarrassed to ask.

Grandma Xu also came over with a bowl of porridge. The porridge in her bowl was much thinner than that in the two children's bowls.

They only drank porridge without any side dishes or a drop of oil.

I closed my eyes, I couldn't bear to see the two children looking so pitiful.

Adults can still hold on, but children are in the growth stage. If they don’t have nutrition, how can they grow?

Her hand unconsciously reached into her pocket, took out a large red sausage, thought about it, and put it back into the space.

It would be a bad idea to suddenly take out meat and other things in this situation.

She took out another bag of pickles. This was fine. Pickles were not very profitable, and they could be eaten in one meal after opening.

Seeing two children concentrating on eating, their hair was dry and yellow, and it was obvious that they were malnourished.

She took out four salted duck eggs and placed them all on the small table in front of them.

"I have some food here, not much, let's each have a taste."

The three members of the Xu family, grandparents and grandchildren, all widened their eyes. "We can't accept this."

Grandma Xu moved the bowl away a little and didn't dare to take her things.

Jiang Baige had already opened the bag of pickles and gave some to each of the two children, Wanli.

"Try it, this goes really well with rice."

The two children stared at her blankly, then looked at Wanli, and then at their grandmother.

"Your sister gave it to you, so eat it quickly!"

The two children didn't say anything. The food was ready, so they started eating quickly.

The two children didn't say anything and just lowered their heads to eat.

Grandma Xu's eyes suddenly turned red. "My little girl, you came home and I made you spend money."

"Don't think too much, mother-in-law, you try it too."

Jiang Baige squeezed some pickles into her bowl and said, "Mother-in-law, the two children are growing up, so cook more delicious food for them."

When Grandma Xu heard her say this, she suddenly became speechless and choked up.

"My dear, my son and daughter-in-law passed away a few years ago. I am an old woman raising them. I work alone and feed three people. We don't get much food a year. As long as we can fill our stomachs, they won't come out. How can I get any nutritious food for them?"

She sighed as she spoke, and you could tell it wasn't easy.

The two children also had tears in their eyes. Jiang Baige didn't expect that her words would make the three of them so sad.

I felt a little regretful for what I said, and quickly helped to peel the salted duck eggs in front of me, peeling one for each of us.

"Eat quickly! Don't think about those sad things, everything will be fine in the future."

The two children looked at their grandmother again. Grandma Xu said, "Eat! Aren't you hungry?"

After hearing what grandma said, Xu Jie and his brother quickly started to eat.

Xu Jie took the time to say, "Sister, thank you!"
