Chapter 13 The First Transaction

Being interrupted by them, Jiang Baige forgot the purpose of coming here.

When I heard they said there was meat here, I happily said thank you.

Fifth brother quickly brought a piece of meat from the house. It was fat and lean, and looked much better than the one in her space.

The fifth brother asked, "Do you think there's enough meat here? If not, there's still some inside."

Jiang Baige nodded, "Well, that's enough, that's enough."

The fifth brother continued, "Our meat here is eighteen yuan per catty. Here we have two catties and one ounce, so I'll charge you thirty-six yuan! I'll give you one ounce."

As he said this, he was about to wrap the meat in straw paper and hand it to Jiang Baige.

When Jiang Baige heard the price was thirty-six yuan, she thought she had heard it wrong.

Puzzled, he asked, "Fifth Brother, how much is one pound?"

The fifth brother repeated, "Eighteen yuan per catty. Here are two catties and one ounce. Just give me thirty-six yuan."

Looking at Jiang Baige's incredible expression, the fifth brother asked, "Miss, didn't you find out clearly when you came here?"

Jiang Baige nodded, "I really don't know."

As he spoke, he buttoned the corner of his clothes awkwardly.

She felt something was wrong, and thought that a few dollars per pound should be the maximum, and buying two pounds would be a small problem.

Who would have thought that this meat would cost eighteen yuan per pound? She couldn't even buy this pound of meat even if she worked for a month.

I thought to myself, "I don't have that much money! The total amount of money I have on me is only a dozen yuan."

"Besides, there's so much meat in my own space, there's no need to come here to buy expensive meat."

Looking at the man with a fierce look in his eyes, she thought, "If I want to leave here safely today, I must buy these two pounds of meat."

"But what can I do if I don't have any money? I have to find a way to get by."

Mr. Kratos sat on a stool beside him, drinking tea from the cup without saying a word, but his eyes looked very unfriendly.

Jiang Baige thought about it and had an idea. Although he didn’t have the money, he had the goods!

The fifth brother asked, "Little comrade, you have no money, why are you coming to us? Do you have other motives?"

The fifth brother was thinking at this moment, "This little girl might have been sent by someone else to scout the place. I'm afraid they won't be able to stay here for long."

Jiang Baige smiled awkwardly and chuckled twice.

"Master Kui, I didn't bring so much money with me when I went out today. Do you think I can exchange something with you?"

Kratos looked up at the little girl in front of him. Although he couldn't see her face clearly, seeing her calm eyes, he decided to let her finish.

Mr. Kui said, "Tell me, what can I give you to pay for these thirty-six dollars?"

Thirty-six dollars is a lot these days, but for Kratos, it's nothing.

But for ordinary farmers, they can't save this much money in a year.

He looked at Jiang Baige. If she were a local woman, she would have been scared to her knees after hearing how much the meat cost.

This little girl is so brave that she even wants to exchange things with me.

Hearing that the other person was a little interested, Jiang Baige quickly searched for the items in the space in his mind.

It can only be taken out of the shoulder bag now, and it can't be too big.

After thinking about it, the two boxes of retro lighters at the cigarette counter should be fine. They look high-end, and they use kerosene.

There are twenty in a box, and they are all different styles. This should be a best-seller here.

She reached into her bag, pulled out a box, and placed it on the table in front of Kratos.

He smiled and said, "Master Kui, take a look at this, can you exchange it for two pounds of meat?"

Kratos saw the box in front of him and didn't know what was inside. He looked up at the woman in front of him.

Then he reached out to open the box and looked at the things inside one by one, not knowing what they were, with a look of confusion on his face.

The fifth brother also came to the table and asked, "Little comrade, what is this?"

Jiang Baige smiled and said, "This is called a lighter."

The fifth brother was confused. He had never heard of what a lighter was. As he spoke, he picked up one and started to study it.

Looking at their inquiring expressions, Jiang Baige took out a lighter and slid it on the pulley twice, and the lighter started burning.

The flame was neither big nor small, but it scared the two people next to it and they quickly dodged away.

Jiang Baige introduced it seriously, "This is a lighter, it has many uses."

"For example, you men can use it when you smoke. It's also very quick to light a fire when cooking."

"And it's made of iron, so it's much more powerful than a match."

After the introduction, Jiang Baige closed the lid.

Kui Ye and the other two were stunned and asked, "Where did you get this thing?"

"Well, my hometown is in Shanghai, and I got this from an acquaintance."

The fifth brother also imitated Jiang Baige and struck the lighter. It lit up immediately and said happily, "Master Kui, this thing is great! I guarantee it will sell well once we take it out."

Mr. Kui also knew that this was a good thing, he just felt that it was a little too little, so he asked, "How much of this do you have?"

Jiang Baige had no idea how many there were, but there were still two boxes of vintage ones and three boxes of ordinary ones on the counter.

She thought for a moment and made a two with her hand. "There are still so many."

Kratos asked, "Two?"

Jiang Baige said, "Not two, but two more?"

A smile finally appeared on Kui Ye's face. "How about this! I'll give you two dollars each, and you give me both boxes. What do you think?"

Jiang Baige thought for a moment, "If we follow the black market rules, they'll sell this for at least five yuan, or even more. So two yuan shouldn't be too low, right?"

Considering that two dollars each, the price may not be too low.

Seeing that she didn't say anything, Kui Ye thought that the amount he gave was too little and the girl was unwilling.

He added, "In this case, the maximum is three dollars each. It really can't be higher. We will also take risks if we sell it."

What he said about taking risks is true. Those who work in the black market at this time are people who live by their belts.

There is a risk of being reported at any time and anywhere. Being caught and having your things confiscated are minor matters. In serious cases, you may even be shot.

Of course Jiang Baige was willing. She was so poor now that she thought she would make money, so as long as she could make a small profit but quick turnover, it was okay.

She then pulled out two more boxes from her bag and said, "Here they are. Take a look at the goods!"

Hearing her words, the fifth brother hurriedly opened the box and counted the pieces. He then took out an abacus and muttered as he calculated, "Sixty pieces equals one hundred and eighty yuan, minus the thirty-six yuan for the meat."

Hearing how slowly he calculated, Jiang Baige rushed in and said, "Except for the meat, you still have to pay me one hundred and forty-four yuan."

After hearing her answer so quickly, the fifth brother looked up at her and said, "Little comrade, you're really quick at calculating. Have you ever been to school?"

Jiang Baige nodded, "Until high school."

The fifth brother gave her a thumbs up and said, "Little comrade, you are this."

Listening to their conversation, Kratos had already prepared the money.

One hundred and forty-four yuan was placed in front of Jiang Baige. Thinking that four didn't sound good, she added another yuan.
