Chapter 238: Someone Comes to the Old House

Liu Yue'e originally thought that she had done a good thing by escorting the girl all the way. She was happy to see the girl enter the city safely.

What she didn't expect was that her good intentions led to bad consequences, causing the girl to be exposed to car exhaust and dust along the way.

After seeing the girl leave, Liu Yue'e said to Master Zhang, "Let's go! Let's go back."

After receiving his wife's instructions, Master Zhang stepped on the accelerator again and sped away.

He had been driving at a snail's pace all the way, holding his breath for fear that he would not pay attention and be blamed by his wife. Now he can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

In order to avoid the dust, Jiang Baige left the edge of the city. She had never been here before. Judging from the dilapidated state of the houses, it should be an old city area, and the kind that couldn't be older.

The wall paint was peeling off, and there were even quite a few tiles missing from the eaves, with one piece hanging on the wood, about to fall off.

Jiang Baige looked up and quickly left, fearing that a gust of wind would blow and the tiles above would fall and hit her.

She regretted turning in after a while. There were two small paths in the alley that turned back and forth, and she got lost as she walked. It was too far to turn back.

There is no other choice but to keep moving forward.

The small street was not clean and the cobblestone road was not paved. She kept stumbling while riding the bicycle. After a while, she felt like her butt was about to fall apart. She felt numb and painful, so she had to get off the bicycle and push it.

The atmosphere of life here is very lively. Some people here raise chickens and dogs. When someone passes by, the dogs bark and the chickens cluck.

When passing by a garbage dump, Jiang Baige already smelled a foul odor and saw an old lady picking up garbage on the garbage pile.

He rummaged around, not knowing what he was looking for in the garbage dump.

Near Lijiang Baige, there was a little girl of four or five years old climbing on a pile of coal slag. A lot of coal slag had been dug into her basket.

Jiang Baige stopped, looked for a while, and then asked.

"Grandma, how do I get out of here? I got lost when I came in."

The old lady looked up and saw a girl, then raised her hand to push the hair off her forehead.

He asked, "I can't find the way. Go straight from here. You will see two roads ahead. Take the left one and you will reach the main road."

She smiled as she finished speaking: "If you can't find it, ask someone else then."

Jiang Baige nodded and said, "Thank you, grandma."

As he was about to leave, he saw that the little girl was very cute. She took out a handful of candies from her pocket. Seeing that she was wearing a small apron, he gave her the candies and put them in the apron.

The little girl didn't know what was going on. There were a lot of candies in her apron. She stared blankly at her sister in front of the door.

Jiang Baige raised her hand and touched her face, which looked like a little cat, and then said, "Eat less sugar, otherwise you will have a toothache!"

The little girl stared at her without blinking, she had no idea what her sister was talking about.

When the old lady saw Jiang Baige giving something to her granddaughter, she hurried over to see.

"Oh, so much candy, so many girls."

Jiang Baige smiled and said, "It's not much. Give it to my little sister!"

The old lady felt a little embarrassed, so she just pointed the way and people gave her so much candy.

She said, "Girl, come on, I'll take you out."

They accepted all the candies and sent the girl away as a thank you.

Jiang Baige was also afraid that she would not be able to get out, so she hurriedly thanked them.

Jiang Baige looked at the limping old lady next to her and asked, "Grandma, do you live here?"

The old lady nodded, "Yes, on the other side, you've already walked past it."

Jiang Baige thought: "This must be what others call a slum. It's full of people who farm nearby and then live in the city. They can only make a living year-round."

After leaving the alley, Jiang Baige arrived at the main road, and her vision suddenly became wider.

Fortunately, there were signposts on the road, so she could get back by herself without asking anyone.

The old lady said, "Girl, this is the main road. As a girl, don't go into these alleys."

Jiang Baige responded: "Well, thank you grandma, you can go back quickly!"

After the old lady left, Jiang Baige was about to leave when she suddenly felt that this place was very familiar. It turned out that her other house was just ahead.

Jiang Baige thought, since I'm here, I might as well go take a look inside the house.

He took out his key, opened the door, and parked his bike in the yard.

The garden outside is too empty, and the big trees look very vast and desolate.

The yard is overrun with weeds, and now that winter has arrived, the weeds are dry and yellow, and could catch fire with just the slightest spark.

It’s a pity to think that such a beautiful garden is covered with weeds.

After closing the outer door, Jiang Baige wanted to take a walk inside the house.

In fact, there was nothing good to see. She had already taken away the furniture and burned it as firewood. Only some things that she thought were still usable were left, and she covered them with cloth.

But when she went in, she found that the furniture she had left behind was gone: the sofa and the cabinets in the living room.

I looked around on the first floor, but it was empty, not even a stool left.

When I went upstairs, I saw that all the other rooms were empty. I opened the door of a bedroom and saw that all the furniture was there.

It was also neatly arranged, with two wooden sofas put together like a bed, and a tattered quilt on the bed, and pillows and clothes were all piled here.

After pretending for a long time, he finally couldn't help but blurt out a curse word, "Oh shit, there's a thief in the house."

Seeing this, Jiang Baige guessed that someone must have moved into the house, and it seemed that they planned to stay for a long time.

She didn't stay here for long, she went to check somewhere else.

Everything else was fine, except for the cooking utensils and some firewood in the kitchen, which showed that someone had lived there.

She looked around but didn't see any food or anything.

Jiang Baige went to the backyard to take a look and found that the person came in from the back.

The back door seemed to have been in disrepair for a long time, and the wooden door was broken, but it seemed to have been repaired, and two newer wooden boards were nailed on top.

But after looking around, it seemed that no one was home. She thought that the person living there might not be at home during the day.

She didn't know when others would come back, so she couldn't just throw the things away.

Someone has moved in secretly, and maybe those things upstairs are their only belongings.

She wouldn't do such a thing as throwing things away.

I can only go home first and come back at night to see who it is.

It's impossible to just kick people out like this. I don't live here for long, and after I leave, maybe they will come back.

She didn't touch anything in the house or rummage around, and she left quickly while no one was home.

Jiang Baige thought, what's going on! Others are living in my house openly, but I have to leave quietly like a thief.
