Chapter 30 Introduction to Objects

It was already past one in the afternoon. When Jiang Baige returned to the ward, Grandma Meng was also listening to the noise outside the door.

She limped in, and Grandma Meng asked, "Girl, are you back?"

Jiang Baige responded, "Well, Grandma Meng, you must be hungry! I'll go get some food right away."

Grandma Meng sighed, "Don't worry about eating yet, take me to the toilet quickly."

When Jiang Baige heard that Grandma Meng wanted to go to the bathroom, she reacted and hurried to help Grandma Meng get out of bed.

Seeing how anxious she was, she must have been holding it in for a long time. She felt a little guilty now, "Grandma Meng, I'm sorry I came back late. Have you been holding it in for a long time?"

"No, I went there this morning."

"Ah! Why did you go there alone?" Jiang Baige asked worriedly.

As Grandma Meng went to the restroom, she said, "A female comrade, she said she knew you, came to talk to you, and I asked her to take me there."

"Lesbian~~" Jiang Baige remembered, it was Sister Liu.

Grandma Meng asked, "I heard her last name was Liu. You know her, right?"

After sending Grandma Meng inside, Jiang Baige responded, "Yes, I met her yesterday."

When the two of them came back, Jiang Baige was about to prepare dinner.

Hearing the sound of her taking out the lunch box, Grandma Meng beside her said, "Buy less food. I lie down all day and don't have to work. I'm not hungry."

Jiang Baige could tell that the old lady felt bad for her spending money, so she replied, "Okay."

Today's lunch in the hospital cafeteria was pretty good, and there was even some leftover good stuff like braised pork.

When Jiang Baige thought of the braised pork broth mixed with rice, she couldn't help but smile.

"Master, serve the food."

Seeing that she was late again, the fat chef smiled and said, "Comrade, you're lucky. There's still a lot of meat today. Do you want some?"

"Yes! Master, I'll give you some dry food today."

Jiang Baige said as she extended her lunch box through the window, "Master, make some broth."

The fat chef smiled and said, "Okay."

Braised pork with white rice required one meat coupon and one grain coupon, and the whole meal only cost one yuan and fifty cents, which was much cheaper than state-owned restaurants.

Jiang Baige brought some rice and placed it on the bedside table. She opened the lid of the lunch box and placed it on the table, then took out a bag of pickles from the space.

When Grandma Meng smelled the aroma of meat, her mouth began to water. She asked, "What did you buy today? It smells so good, it seems like meat."

Jiang Baige replied, "There's braised pork in the cafeteria today. I ordered one. Come on, Grandma Meng, let's eat!"

Looking at Grandma Meng's thin and dark hands, Jiang Baige gave half of the meat in his lunch box to Grandma Meng.

When she heard it was meat, Grandma Meng thought for a moment, "Meat! I think I ate it last year."

Last winter, a pig jumped out of the pigpen at the pig farm in their village.

Because it was winter and cold at night, Li Daniu, who was responsible for feeding the pigs, was sleeping soundly and did not hear the sound of the pigs jumping out.

When the pig was discovered the next day, it had already fallen into the manure pit and drowned.

Chen Defu was reluctant to bury the fat pig weighing over 100 pounds, so he organized people to kill the pig and sell it. There was still some left, so he gave it to Grandma Meng.

Thinking about the time when she had eaten meat, Grandma Meng sighed and said, "Little girl, don't spend this money. You will have plenty of places to spend money in the future."

Jiang Baige said nonchalantly, "Grandma Meng, just eat it without worry! You can buy it now if you have money."

"When we return to the village the day after tomorrow, even if we have money, we may not be able to eat."

"Besides, we don't eat this every day. We only eat it once in a while, so don't worry."

After hearing her words, Grandma Meng swallowed what she was about to say.

Grandma Meng ate with a spoon and said as she ate, "Let's go back early tomorrow morning!"

Jiang Baige answered firmly, "The day after tomorrow, let the doctor give you a thorough checkup. Only when they make sure you're alright, can we go back with peace of mind."

"Staying here for one more day means some people will pay one more day's price."

Grandma Meng put down the spoon, raised her hand and touched her body, "I don't feel any pain anymore."

Seeing her anxious look, Jiang Baige smiled softly and said, "Grandma Meng, don't worry, you don't have to pay."

"As long as you are in good health, I will not have wasted all this money."

Seeing that Grandma Meng was about to say something, Jiang Baige said, "Alright, you have to listen to me on this matter."

"Let's eat! The braised pork will get cold and won't taste good."

While they were eating, they heard laughter coming from the door.

Liu Yuhua smiled and said, "You guys are having dinner! I came at a really bad time."

Jiang Baige said enthusiastically, "It's okay, it's okay, Sister Liu, please sit here. I've already eaten."

Jiang Baige ordered a small amount of rice and finished it in just a few bites.

Since people were waiting here, she didn't bother to wash the dishes. She put down her lunch box and asked Sister Liu to sit down.

Liu Yuhua smiled and said, "Sister, you don't have to be so polite. I'm just tired of staying in the ward and want to talk to you."

Jiang Baige didn't know why Sister Liu wanted to talk to her, and they were not familiar enough to have a heart-to-heart talk.

They waited until Grandma Meng finished her meal and lay back in bed for a nap before they went outside the hospital to chat.

The two of them held hands and came to the small garden of the hospital. The sun was high in the sky and it was warm.

The two chatted for a while before they realized that they were very close to each other and were in the village next to Chenjia Village.

After talking it out, Jiang Baige finally figured out what Sister Liu was trying to do. It turned out that she thought she was pretty and wanted to be a matchmaker for her cousin from her uncle's family.
