13. A Trip to Pompeii

After considering it for a few days, Lu Guansheng decided to go to Pompeii only after the volcanic eruption.

After the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii resembled a mini-apocalyptic environment.

This kind of environment has two advantages: first, it won't interfere with history, and can be done without anyone noticing. Second, it will be a chaotic time, with everyone's attention focused on escaping, and no one will care about the strange behavior of an outsider.

The eruption began at 8 a.m., and the peak of the evacuation process occurred around 1 p.m. After 3 or 4 p.m., the ash and hailstorms intensified, significantly increasing safety risks.

In other words, Lawrence Lu basically has a two to three hour window to hunt for treasure.

For others, this amount of time might not be enough, but Lawrence Lu has the ability to control time and space. Therefore, these two hours can be infinitely magnified and repeated over and over again.

The temperature of volcanic ash is very high, and air quality will also become a major problem. In order to protect Lu Guansheng's appearance from being damaged, he decided to act at night and leave Xiao Lu in Fuyuan.

There were only two weeks left, which was definitely not enough time to develop equipment. Lu Guansheng's brain turned and he thought of the space suit.

Since this nano space suit can withstand the harsh environment of Mars, it can of course block even small volcanic ash.

In addition, the detection equipment is complete and the operation is already proficient, so it is definitely the best choice.

Speaking of operation, Lawrence Lu thought of the space-time gate. Although he knew the principle, he had never actually used it, so practice was inevitable!

After spending a few more days mastering the operation of the space-time gate, Lu Guansheng began to make plans.

Since we want to "dig" the treasures of Pompeii, of course we have to go to Italy, right?

Fortunately, his grandfather also had a hobby of collecting antiques, and he told him that there was a basement in the antique warehouse.

This basement has no door, only ventilation ducts, and entry and exit are through a space-time door. No one knows the existence of this secret room.

Lu Guansheng opened the space-time door and put several boxes that could hold antiques into the secret room.

He said hello to Nianbo and told him that he was going to Italy and would be back in a week. Then he packed his suitcase and left in a helicopter.

After flying the helicopter to an uninhabited island in the East China Sea, Lu Guansheng opened the time and space door and returned to the small secret room in his room.

After releasing Xiao Lu and activating the space suit, he opened the space-time gate and went to Pompeii.

At 1 p.m. on August 24, 79 AD, Lu Guansheng set foot on the ancient Roman territory of Pompeii.

This is the most prosperous street in the city center. Lu Guansheng speaks good Italian. Looking at the sign, he recognized that the street is called "Fengyu Street".

The usually leisurely and bustling streets are now bustling with traffic, all trying to reach the port and escape.

Feeling that the space suit was a bit conspicuous, Lu Guansheng went around to the backyard of a large house, took down a khaki robe from the clothesline and put it on, and then took a headscarf to cover the helmet.

On ordinary days, a man wearing a woman's headscarf might be out of place, but after a volcanic eruption, this translucent headscarf is a great way to keep out the dust.

For Lu Guansheng, this headscarf has another function, which is to cover the helmet and the exposed space suit.

Back on the street again, Lu Guansheng began to look for his target.

What he was looking for was nothing more than the lord's palace. But there were so many temples and mansions here, which one was the palace?

Most of the information on the Internet only shows the bottom floor of the building, and the floors above the second floor have been destroyed by the volcano.

But now, these towering buildings are really hard to distinguish!

I was planning to go to the higher ground to take a look when I was interrupted.

"Father! You've taken the wrong path!" "Father" was the name that Roman commoners used to address nobles.

The man mistook him for a nobleman, probably because of his clothes. Ordinary dyed clothes were not affordable for the poor.

"Wrong way?" Lu Guansheng answered in Italian.

The pronunciation and grammar of modern Italian are somewhat different from those of ancient Roman Latin. The man was stunned when he heard it.

"Judging from your accent, you're from out of town, right?"

"Yes! I just arrived yesterday and was originally going to visit the lord, but I didn't expect..." Lu Guansheng took advantage of the situation.

"The lord lives on the hill over there, but he seems to have left early in the morning!" the man said, pointing to the palace on the hill.

"Left?" Leaving is a good thing!

"Are you unfamiliar with the road?" The man kindly gave Lu Guansheng directions. "You should go west. There's the pier over there. Go around Caesar's Tomb and you'll arrive."

"Caesar's Tomb?" Lu Guansheng suddenly had an idea. "Is it Julius Caesar?"

"Yes, but the screen only says Gaius. Perhaps it's a taboo?"

"What does Caesar's tomb look like?" Lu Guansheng continued to ask.

"Huh?" the man wondered, "How could anyone not know about Caesar's tomb?" Then, realizing the man was from out of town, it made sense.

“I’ve never been here, and I’m afraid I won’t recognize it.” Lawrence Lu’s words confirmed the man’s guess.

"Look!" The man took Lu Guansheng to the street corner and pointed to the slope to the west. "That's the marble temple!"

"Thanks!"

The man nodded to Lu Guansheng and continued to escape to the dock.

"Caesar's Tomb!" Lu Guansheng was happy. This was an unexpected surprise!

Lu Guansheng decisively changed his target. He looked in the direction of Caesar's tomb and then hid in an empty house.

There, he once again opened the space-time portal and crossed into the grand temple on Caesar's tomb.

This is a temple made entirely of white marble, with mosaic murals all over the walls, telling the story of Caesar's glory and fall.
