After renting a high-end hotel, Lu Guansheng began to plan his next step.
Italian glass is very famous. In addition to Venetian crystal, there is also Florentine glass.
These manufacturing techniques were already prevalent in Pompeii in the early Christian era.
After strolling around for an afternoon, Lu Guansheng had a basic understanding of the tradition of Italian glassware, so he set his sights on wine vessels.
Recalling the direction of the lord's palace pointed by the passerby, Lu Guansheng opened the time and space door and went to Pompeii again.
The continuous earthquakes throughout the morning had shaken the furnishings in the palace to pieces, with debris scattered all over the floor.
Thinking that these valuable items should be locked in the cabinet, Lu Guansheng began to search the cabinets one by one.
There were a lot of things, but they were all mediocre, and Lu Guansheng couldn't help feeling a little disappointed.
Turning around, he saw a half-closed wooden cabinet. It was made of rose cherry wood and was carved all over. The corners were brass-trimmed, and the handles were inlaid with clear crystal.
Opening the cabinet, it was completely empty. However, traces of silk on the shelves indicated that a complete set of wine utensils had once been placed there. Layers of square marks underneath, seemingly boxes for wine utensils.
"So they moved away!" Lu Guansheng was obviously disappointed.
Did the lord escape in the end? Not knowing this history, Lu Guansheng decided to return to Naples and inquire at the ruins museum.
There are really a lot of tourists visiting the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii. The moment Lu Guansheng set foot on the ruins park, he thought of the glory of the past.
Today, the broken rocks and buildings excavated from dozens of meters of volcanic ash have merged with the earth.
Fortunately, there were more people watching the fun as those interested in history, so the museum was quite quiet.
Lu Guansheng looked around and found a staff member. He pretended to be a curious tourist and started asking questions.
"Hello! There must have been a lot of people in Pompeii who didn't escape at that time, right?" Lu Guansheng spoke, and his fluent Italian made communication effortless.
"Yes! Most people didn't escape!" The other person was a curly-haired woman in her forties wearing glasses. "Hello! I'm a researcher here. You can call me Maria. Are you interested in the history of Pompeii?"
"Yes, Ms. Maria." Lu Guansheng nodded. "It was a slave society back then, right? Were most of those who escaped aristocrats?"
"Not necessarily!" Maria explained. "Many nobles had too much money. Although their carriages and horses were fine, they were much slower. Many of the slaves who escaped were actually quite a few."
"Is that so! It seems that from ancient times to the present, misers who die for money are all the same!" Lu Guansheng joked.
"That's right!" Maria also laughed.
"Did the city lord escape at that time?" Lu Guansheng finally asked the key question.
"Unfortunately, no!" Maria shrugged. "Just like you said, it's the fate of a miser!"
"How do you know?" Lu Guansheng wondered how Maria could have discovered this when it happened almost two thousand years ago?
"The city lord's carriage has special markings, and the city lord also wears a crown that indicates his identity." Maria rarely meets people who would ask for details. Feeling that she had found a soulmate, she began to talk incessantly.
"We unearthed several human fossils near the dock. The one on the carriage must be the city lord."
"Then how did they die?"
"Being able to escape to the dock means they set out pretty early. It's a pity they were delayed too long on the way, and ended up getting hit by falling rocks and hail, right?"
"Stonehenge? Shouldn't it be three or four in the afternoon? He escaped early in the morning and didn't reach the dock for a whole day?" Lu Guansheng found it a little unbelievable.
"The road conditions back then weren't as good as they are now. The city lord's carriage was large, and since it was a convoy, they had to take the main road. Plus, with so much luggage on board, most of them couldn't handle the bumps, which is why they couldn't speed up, right?"
"How do you know this?"
"When it was excavated, the carriage was overturned and there were many boxes scattered around. Romans mostly carried luggage in soft cloth bags, and only valuables were carried in boxes."
"So that's how it is!" Lu Guansheng nodded, "Have these valuables been dug out and put on display?"
"Unfortunately, no." Maria said it was a pity, and she really meant it. "Based on the degree of melting and the material, it should be made of glass. Glass can't withstand the high temperature, so it's all destroyed!"
"That's such a shame! Is it true that there isn't a single piece of glassware left?"
"One was found in a basement, but it's shattered! Alas! It seems we won't be able to witness the true splendor of the glass!"
"Is that so!" Lu Guansheng nodded. After getting the information he wanted to know, he decided to leave.
Before leaving, he thanked Maria and said something that Maria found puzzling: he said he hoped there would be a chance for cooperation if the treasure was found in the future.
Maria took this as a joke!
Back at the hotel, Lu Guansheng replanned his treasure hunt plan.
This time, he arrived at eight o'clock in the morning, when the volcano had just erupted.
Hiding in the cellar, he only opened a cat's eye-sized space-time hole in front of the candlestick. With the candlelight, it was very hidden, and this space-time hole was facing the cherry wood carved cabinet.
A servant opened the cabinet, and just as Lu Guansheng had expected, there was a set of exquisite glass wine utensils in the cabinet.
He watched the servant pack a box, handed it to another, gave a few words of instruction, and then turned to pack other things.
Staring like this was too slow, so Lu Guansheng changed his method. He opened a peephole in front of their convoy every five minutes until the group set off.
