275. Xuan Zhihui

Making friends with Xuan Zhihui was a coincidence.

More than forty years ago, Qian Jiujin, a college student, was strolling in an antique market on the weekend and fell in love with a pair of jade bracelets.

As luck would have it, just as I was about to reach out to take a closer look, another hand next to me also picked up the jade bracelet.

The owner of that hand was Xuan Zhihui.

The two young men looked at each other for a while, and no one spoke. Perhaps they couldn't think of what to say for a moment.

In the end, it was Qian Jiujin who spoke first: "Little brother, do you also like this pair of jade bracelets?"

"Yeah! It's pretty!"

"It looks pretty good?" Qian Jiujin laughed out loud when he heard that!

"Is there something wrong?" Xuan Zhihui was a little surprised by Qian Jiujin's reaction.

"It's more than just beautiful, isn't it?" Qian Jiujin asked, "Young man, are you an outsider?"

"Why?" Xuan Zhihui showed a hint of interest. "You know anything about antiques?"

"I have made some achievements." Qian Jiujin was not modest.

"Oh? So, I made the right choice by choosing these bracelets?"

"It's the right choice, but... I don't want to give it up. What should I do?"

"This..." Xuan Zhihui was more reserved back then and not very eloquent, so she was at a loss for words for a moment.

Qian Jiujin, who was usually quite active, smiled at him and said, "Little brother, are you from Beijing? Traveling?"

"You're from Beijing, yes. But I'm not here for tourism. I'm here as an exchange student in Jincheng."

"Oh? Exchange student? Where do you study?"

"Jindu University." Xuan Zhihui replied.

"Jindu! Then we're alumni!" Qian Jiujin said with a smile, "You look younger than me, and you're already in college?"

Qian Jiujin was only a freshman at the university. Looking at Xuan Zhihui, who looked pretty and had the appearance of a high school student, he felt that she looked so young.

"I'm nineteen!" Xuan Zhihui knew that she had a baby face and was often misunderstood.

His younger brother is always considered his brother, and he is used to the embarrassment of it.

"Then we are of the same age!" Qian Jiujin stretched out his hand, "Qian Jiujin! Let's be friends! What do you call me, little brother?"

"Xuan Zhihui!"

"Xuan Zhihui..." Qian Jiujin repeated silently, then asked, "What do you want the bracelets for?"

"My grandma likes jade bracelets. I received a scholarship and wanted to buy her a pair."

"Scholarship?" Qian Jiujin smiled. "The scholarship doesn't seem to be enough to buy these bracelets!"

"Isn't that enough?" Xuan Zhihui frowned.

"Brother! This is an antique market, not a flea market!" Qian Jiujin laughed. "If you don't believe me, why don't you go ask the boss?"

"You know a lot about antiques, could you give me a price so I can have a rough idea?"

Qian Jiujin picked up the bracelet, looked at it, and then hooked his finger at Xuan Zhihui.

Xuan Zhihui came closer, and Qian Jiujin whispered in his ear: "This pair of bracelets is made of jadeite from Yunnan. It belongs to the palace of the Qing Dynasty."

After a pause, he continued, "A connoisseur of the goods would estimate the value to be up to two hundred thousand, but this boss will probably sell it for tens of thousands!"

"How do you know?" Xuan Zhihui asked.

"Look, he put these things in a pile and didn't display them in the valuables cabinet. It's obvious that he doesn't know the value of them!" Qian Jiujin pointed to the current location of the bracelet.

"Tens of thousands?" Xuan Zhihui frowned when she heard the number.

"What level of scholarship?" Qian Jiujin asked.

"First class."

"That's fifty thousand?" Qian Jiujin said, "It's a little less... but..."

"But what?"

"Let's be friends. I'll help you bid. Can I get it for you for 50,000?"

"real?"

"Try it!" Qian Jiujin said with a smile, "But then your scholarship will be completely gone!"

"It's okay! I'm not short of money, I just don't want to use our family's money to buy a gift for grandma. It's not sincere!"

"Okay then! Watch me!"

Qian Jiujin picked up the bracelets and the pair of jade hairpins next to them and walked towards the boss who was reading a book.

"Boss, what's your price for these two pieces?"

The boss put down the book in his hand and took a look: "The bracelet is 60,000, and the jade hairpin is 50,000!"

"Boss! That's too expensive!" Qian Jiujin shook his head. "This jade bracelet is at most fifty thousand, and the hairpin is forty thousand at most!"

"Young man, can you please let me make some money?" the boss said. "You bid so low, are you going to leave me with nothing?"

"Boss, your northwest wind is so expensive! Twenty thousand for one blow?" Qian Jiujin said with a smile, "Give me a discount! Look, we're all students receiving scholarships to support our elders. How about giving your northwest wind a half-price discount?"

"Puchi!" Xuan Zhihui couldn't help laughing.

Others bid prices to give discounts on the goods, but Qian Jiujin bid prices to give discounts to "Northwest Wind". This is the first time I've heard of this.

The boss was also surprised for a moment, but was also amused by Qian Jiujin's humorous theory.

After several rounds of trading, the boss finally sold the two items for one hundred thousand.

"Fifty thousand per person, send the money!"

After leaving the store, Qian Jiujin, who had paid, gave Xuan Zhihui a QR code and asked him to transfer 50,000 yuan to him.

And just like that, the two became friends.

Xuan Zhihui sent the bracelets to her grandmother, who loved them very much. After taking them to a jade shop for appraisal, she found out that the bracelets were actually worth more than 200,000 yuan.

This also made Xuan Zhihui trust Qian Jiujin's vision very much. Every weekend, when she had time, she would go to the antique market with him and learn about these things.

In their sophomore year, Xuan Zhihui returned to Beijing, but they still kept in touch. It was not until many years later that they knew what kind of person each other was!
